Wenger snaps up young guns

Arsenal have added two promising youngsters to their talented ranks, with the capture of Dutch winger Vincent van den Berg and Watford defender Joe O'Cearuill.



The Gunners have been linked with a range of international stars over the summer but boss Arsene Wenger has been quietly continuing his quest to scour the game for the best up-and-coming talent.

17-year-old van den Berg joins from Eredivisie outfit Heerenveen after having talks with the North London club in June - as first revealed by skysports.com.

The gifted midfielder impressed during the Fifa Under-17 World Championships in Peru last October and will now be hoping to follow in the footsteps of compatriots such as Marc Overmars, Dennis Bergkamp and, more recently, Robin van Persie by starring for Wenger's side.

Arsenal's new era at The Emirates Stadium also ushers in the Gunners career of 19-year-old Watford defender O'Cearuill.

The London born youngster featured for Arsenal's reserve team towards the end of last season and has sufficiently impressed Wenger to earn a permanent deal.

Both players will be hoping to make their Arsenal bows in the Premiership side's pre-season friendly with Barnet on Saturday, with players such as Alexander Hleb, Justin Hoyte and Jeremie Aliadiere also in line to feature at Underhill.
