The return work was announced finally. It is Director Kim HG's film "Fate". What makes you decide to cast in this movie?
After discharge from the army, the initial plan is to prepare for drama work. For fans who had been waiting and to be able to quickly see my work, TV drama will be more favorable. But the script did not progress smoothly as expected. At that point of time, I read the script of "Fate" and because I also trusted Director Kim HG, I accepted his invitation to cast in the movie. Director Kim's previous works are all non-mainstream which is a reflection of people in the lowest of the social class, which is what I like. Not TV drama but a movie, so from filming to release date, although a lot more time is required and means slowing down, but I felt that I can do a little better.
Please tell us a little about the contents of movie "Fate", what type of film is it?
It is a Noir film about my friends and me, our friendship, loyalty and betrayal etc. I will be casting as Kim Woo-min who is a manly character under mother's strict discipline and grew up in misfortune. Kim In-kwon will play the role of 道唤, a friend whom I met. After joining the sinister gang I met friend Chul Joong. Chul Joong will be played by KSW. Kim Woo-min's influence in the organisation continuously expanded. At the same time Chul Joong's strength in the organisation weakened. So Woo-min's friend Chul Joong betrayed him.
Revenge and retaliation started between them, the role has a strong flavour of male bonding film. As the main cast I can't say much about who did what. The shooting will start on 21 May, from now till then prepartion work is being done.
There will be a string of fighting scenes. Starting next week I will be taking Wushu training. Besides this nothing special. But there are smoking scenes, which I am a little worried. I have quit smoking three years ago. It seems to be an excuse to try to start smoking before filming begin.
In past interview, it was mentioned that after graduating from high school, you went to work in order not to get money from home. Is this considered a strong independent mind?
Can't really say it's a stong independent mind. I still live with my parents, reason being I don't have the self-confidence of cooking on my own (laugh). But that doesn't mean I will always do whatever my parents say. While in the army, whenever my parents wanted to visit me at the camp, I will tell them definitely not to come. I don't want them to worry.
Unconsciously I have already entered my thirties but I felt that I have gained much. Right now there is a strong desire to go beyond previous images to become a more manly actor. Recently I hope to act in a detective role like my favourite Denzel Washington's role in "Training Days". He is one who continuously displays magical charm, a good actor who is able to express fine feelings.
Where there is sufficient time, work could be completed better. I hope to hear others comment that "Song Seung Heon has become more manly", but it seems that I will have to work harder for it.
