New iPhone 5 design with an edge to edge screen
As you can see from the picture below, one of the most striking features of the new iPhone 5 model is the edge to edge screen that looks pretty cool. Though it might seem impractical, the fact of the matter is that there is technology already available that can help Apple pull of such a design. The technology we are referring to is called IGZO technology. About a month ago, we wrote a post about how Apple might have contracted Sharp electronics to make these iPhone 5 screens that will be thinner, more power efficient and also be able to provide the brilliant retina display resolution that have come to symbolize iPhones. You can read through that post on a thinner screen for the iPhone, to understand how Apple might be able to pull off the design shown below, if they really wanted to.
The most important aspect about the new IGZO screens, if used by Apple, is that IGZO screens are extremely thin. Thus, Apple has the potential to knock off quite a lot of thickness in the iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S is not exactly a thin phone, with thickness of 9.3mm. With these new screens, the iPhone 5 could be just 6-7mm thick, as shown in the picture below
