Revie's son joins chase for Leeds
Leeds United
The son of legendary Leeds manager Don Revie is lining up a bid to take over the troubled club.

Duncan Revie claims he has financial backing from a Middle East consortium and that his only problem is finding a manager good enough to revive the team.

Also launching a bid is former Leeds director Simon Morris, who plans to build a new 50,000-seater stadium.

The 29-year-old property entrepreneur has tabled a

Gang of four 'driven by greed'

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore came out fighting on Friday night, claiming that the "Gang of Four" are being driven by greed in their dispute with West Ham.

"I don抰 get offended by much in the job but I find the suggestion that we wanted to keep West Ham in at the expense of so-called smaller clubs one of the most offensive things I抳e heard," he said.

"The idea that we抎manipulate who抯 in theLeague and who isn抰 is soridiculous it抯 nonsensical.
"Do we want Reading orWigan in the Premiership?Bloody right we dobecause they won theChampionship."
Scudamore is indignantat allegations that theHammers were givenpreferential treatmentwhen an independent commission decidedagainst a points deductionand instead finedthem

Allardyce confirms Newcastle talks

Sam Allardyce has confirmed he is in talks with Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd over the club's vacant manager's job. Allardyce resigned as Bolton Wanderers boss two weeks ago and is the hot favourite to succeed Glenn Roeder, who left St James's Park last weekend.

"It was a good meeting and my agent will speak to Newcastle again over the next few days to discuss matters further," he told The Sun.

Shepherd said: "Sam's excited and we're looking forward to making this work."

The pair has lunch in London on Friday to discuss the job, which Allardyce turned down in 2004 and instead went to Graeme Souness.

The snub has made the former Bolton man unpopular with Newcastle fans, and with Sven-Goran Eriksson this week declaring his interest, it appeared the job might be slipping away from the 54-year-old.

But Allardyce's exceptional record with Bolton, turning the Trotters into regular top-half finishers, has persuaded Shepherd to offer him the Tyneside hotseat again.

Roeder's former assistant Nigel Pearson will take charge of the first team for Sunday's meaningful season finale at Watford, his last match in temporary charge.

Sanchez quits Northern Ireland for Fulham job

Lawrie Sanchez has quit the Northern Ireland manager's job with immediate effect to take the reins at Fulham.

Sanchez, 47, had been managing the West London side on a caretaker basis after the sacking of Chris Coleman and - after guiding the Cottagers to Premiership safety - Mohamed Al-Fayed decided to offer him the position permanently.

"I am delighted to be given this opportunity to manage Fulham and I am looking forward to the new season and the challenges that lie ahead," Sanchez said.

"During my last month or so at Fulham I became increasingly enthused by working daily with players on the training pitch, and the satisfaction that I felt at seeing the end result on a weekly basis.

"The club has an incredibly professional infrastructure worthy of its Premiership status and it is my aim to finish higher than we have before, and to bring the success that the chairman and the supporters deserve for their continued commitment."

Sanchez - who leaves Northern Ireland top of Euro 2008 qualifying group F after wins surprise over Spain, Sweden and Latvia - had previously been seeking to combine the two duties, which he himself admitted was "na飗e", and both Fulham and the Irish Football Federation were keen to have a full-time coach.

"Obviously it is disappointing to not be taking Northern Ireland to the European Championships, but having discussed this at length with the chairman and the board, I understand the importance of focusing solely on the task ahead, and believe that the trust placed in me at this time needs to be repaid with 100% commitment," declared the former Wimbledon player and Wycombe boss.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the helm of Northern Ireland, and would like to thank everyone involved in that set up for their support of me and wish them every success," he continued.

"I am sad to say goodbye to my Northern Ireland job. I have some brilliant memories and they have some fantastic people working for them as well."

Sanchez has signed a rolling one-year contract at Craven Cottage.

Tevez to leave - reports

Carlos Tevez will leave West Ham United at the end of the season even if the Hammers stay in the Premiership, according to media reports.

The Argentine goal ace has even stopped learning English as he does not know if he will still be in England come the start of the new season.

The Sun reports that the 23-year-old striker has already told his Hammers' team-mates he will play his last game in a claret and blue shirt against Manchester United on Sunday, as Alan Curbishley's side look to avoid the drop.

After a difficult start to his career in the Premiership, it has been the explosive form of Tevez over recent weeks that has sparked West Ham into life and on their way to survival. But despite the likelihood that the Hammers will stay in the top flight, his future is still very much up in the air.

"I have stopped learning English as I don't know where I am going to end up next season," he told The Times. "But yes, it was hard to settle [in England].

"The language is an issue - and I will learn English if I stay in this league - and, of course, the football here is different compared to Brazil or Argentina. In my opinion, it's the most difficult competition in the world. That may be why so few people make it over here.

"Every Saturday you get kicked and you end up going home with marks all over your body. They hit you hard, they hit you everywhere - Premiership defenders are very strong individuals.

"And the referees allow a lot. They don't interrupt the game as much as they do elsewhere. But you know what? I don't mind all that, it makes me a better player, a stronger player."

Confusion over the player's ownership has already threatened his career as a Premiership player, and West Ham were ultimately fined

Revie抯 son will ask Bates to name his price as fans back his Leeds takeover

Duncan Revie will this week ask Leeds chairman Ken Bates to name his price after being backed by supporters who want him to take over the club.

The son of legendary Leeds manager Don Revie announced his interest last week in heading a consortium to take control at Elland Road and has been discussing finance with a number of backers, including the wealthy Maktoum family, who rule Dubai.

Revie now plans to see the Leeds chairman to discuss the next step. He said: "It is time to sit down with Ken Bates, to push this thing further and see what he wants. I intend to ring him on Monday and arrange a meeting to find out what the story is. I know Ken and I quite like him. It抯 always best to deal with him face to face and be up front about it.

"I抳e been staggered by the reaction of Leeds fans to my interest in taking the club back where we belong. I抳e always said they are the most passionate fans in the country and they抳e proved me right."

Businessman Revie, 52, runs the successful Soccerex company, which puts on conventions and forums for the football industry. Last week, Leeds United抯 World Cup winner Jack Charlton was present at a one-day conference put on by Soccerex at Wembley.

A number of other parties are also interested in buying Leeds. Former club director Simon Morris, 29, has launched a

Bent in to replace Defoe

It sounds like Defoe is finally leaving after rumor after rumor during the time he has been a Spurs player. Quality people on FTL say that JD now just wants to play every week and he will never be given that at Spurs with Keane and Berbatov clearly the first choice strike partnership. Defoe claims he loves the club and does not have a bad word to say about Spurs but needs to play more often then he can now. it will be interesting to see who comes in for him and unless it is one of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United would a move elsewhere be actually the right move for Jermaine?

Bent is now almost certainly a Spurs player unless he fails a medical. Scoring 12 goals this season for a dreadful Charlton side is good going. He has pace and can strike a ball very well and it will be interesting to see how he does at Spurs.
