KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8, 2014:
Fatimah Ismail, the mother of NurFathiah Idris, says the family was forced to approach the media to ensure that her ex-boyfriend was held accountable for his actions.
The family is accusing Irfan of sharing semi-nude photographs of NurFathiah in the social media after she broke up with him.
The family later found out that others had also lodged complaints against him.
Fatimah claimed that there were many reports lodged against him but nothing had been done by the authorities as the man’s family had a lot of influence.
If she had waited, Fatimah felt that their report would have ended up the same as the others.
She also alleged that at least one more girl had been victimised by the man, but that girl’s family was unwilling to come forward.
“Never mind. We will fight for ourselves. Let them fight for themselves and hopefully any other previous files will be reopened,” she told The Rakyat Post.
Although they lodged a police report on the matter, Fatimah claimed they ran into some difficulty as Irfan was apparently related to a politically influential person.
This was why some of his other victims, she opined, questioned whether they would be defended if they came forward.
Fatimah said she had even tried to approach the man’s family to discuss the matter, but the young man’s father denied knowing their daughter and brushed them off, saying he was busy
Because of this, her family felt that their only recourse was to go public by talking to the press.
She also hoped things would get better for her daughter and family. She also hoped other people would not fall prey to the man.
Fatimah said that her children were not perfect and had their “pros and cons”, but NurFathiah did not deserve to be treated that way by her former boyfriend.
“She should not be victimised like this. We made him like part of our family. When people were warning us about him, we didn’t listen because we knew his family.”
