Pandangan short and sharp yang tepat daripada salah seorang pengarah filem melayu (malaysia) :
Director Mohammad Mohd Khalid, better known as Mamat Khalid, pointed out that Bahasa Malaysia was the national language.
“When it comes to the term ‘national film’, Bahasa Malaysia has to be the official language as it is the language of the country.
“Is it offensive? Or are we confused between equal rights and national obligation?

Amat betul part2 ni... kalu tgk dari perspektif Festival Filem ni shj memanglah nampak racist & takde langsung nampak usaha nak pergi pada konsep 1Malaysia. Tapi kena tengok perspektif overall jugak... aku memang dari dulu dah cakap selagi dasar pendidikan SJKC, SJKT ni dan ditambah lagi dgn SKA & SMKA seperti sekarang... memang TIDAK AKAN tercapai konsep 1Malaysia sampai bila2... so apalah sangat nak dikecoh2kan sangat FFM ni buat pengasingan... |

Cinematographer returns trophies over film awards protest
PETALING JAYA: Cinematographer Mohd Noor Kassim on Monday handed over two Malaysian Film Festival Awards trophies that he won to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).
Videos circulating on social media showed Mohd Noor approaching Finas director-general Datuk Kamil Othman at the end of a forum and handing over the trophies, which were wrapped in a black plastic bag, before exchanging a few words with him.
Mohd Noor, 43, won the trophies for 2011’s Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa and Setem in 2009.
According to mStar, The Star’s Malay portal, the situation at the forum was tense and Film Producers Association (PFM) president Datuk Yusof Haslam was upset over allegations of having been motivated by personal interest.
Mohd Noor has said he was returning the trophies over the segregation of two movies – OlaBola and Jagat – for Best Film under the non-Malay category at the upcoming Festival.
In a Facebook post, Mohd Noor said that while he supported the idea of upholding Bahasa Malaysia, he was also respectful of other languages in Malaysia, which he believed made Malaysia unique and fortunate compared to other monolingual and monocultural societies.
“To me, it is easy for FFM to impose the 70% Malay language condition on films in order to enter the arena. It is like inviting other races to your home but asking them to sit outside in order to separate them, isn’t that racist?” said Mohd Noor.
He also said that Malays should be brave to engage in healthy competition with other races because regardless of race, they were all human.
Mohd Noor has been nominated for Best Cinematographer for his work in the war movie Bravo 5 at this year's event.

Annoyed Yusof Haslam to stay out of film festivals
KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam has vowed never to get involved in future Malaysian Film Festivals following accusations of conflict of interest in the nomination of films.
At the Ask Finas dialogue on Monday night, Yusof, who is Malaysian Film Producers (PFM) president, appeared annoyed at the suggestion that his two films were nominated for the upcoming festival due to personal interest.
The films, Munafik and Mat Moto – Kami Mat Moto Bukan Mat Rempit, by Yusof’s Skop Productions were listed for the Festival’s 28th edition on Sept 3.
“If my position is motivated by personal interest and this is being disputed, it is time that PFM wash its hands and completely surrender the organising of the film festival to Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional (Finas).
“I am tired with the various accusations that are being hurled although it is not all true, in fact I do not even know who sits on the jury (that selects the nominees),” he said at the dialogue which was held at the Pitching Centre, KL Sentral.
The dialogue, also attended by Finas director-general Datuk Kamil Othman, was held to receive feedback from industry players over the decision to nominate OlaBola and Jagat under the non-Malay category for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Director.
The suggestions forwarded at the dialogue included the request that Finas and PFM not to separate the nominations based on language and also a call for the best mechanism to be found in order to solve the recent dispute.
There were also suggestions that Finas appoint an independent body to organise the festival to prevent conflicts and questions concerning Finas or other organisation’s private interest.
Kamil said Finas was confident that there was no issue of personal interest in the nominations for the festival.
He said he was also open to any change based on input and views received over the organising of the festival.
“I will not reject any changes that follows as a result of the meeting tonight, however it would require a deeper analysis before a decision is made,” he said.
