Steven Gerrard Lauds Liverpool Goalkeeper Pepe Reina
Liverpool's guardian Pepe Reina is often overlooked by both Premier League and Spanish fans due to Edwin van der Sar's excellence at Old Trafford and Iker Casillas' continued exemplary form with Real Madrid and the national team.
Steven Gerrard, though, has today lauded Reina as one of the best in the business. The praise arrives in the wake of the 'keeper’s ability to reach 100 shut-outs in club-record time.
"We're really happy with the keeper that we've got at Liverpool and, as far as I'm concerned, Pepe is probably the best in the world in his position right now," Gerrard explained to the club's official website.
"If you look at the games we've won of late, Pepe has played a really important part in those victories by making important saves at vital moments and he's even created a couple of goals as well.
"So we know just how good he is and he is definitely one of the world's best.”
Gerrard is currently away on international duty with England. He is currently preparing for a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday evening against Ukraine.

Liverpool linked with Barcelona goal machine Samuel Eto’o
Rafa Benitez is said to be keeping a close eye on Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o with a view to snapping him up this summer to bolster his opinions up front.
The Liverpool boss is aware that he’s relying too heavily on Fernando Torres and fancies Eto’o as cover for the Spaniard.
The pair would make a formidable strike partnership, and although Eto’o says he wants to stay at Barca until his contract expires in 2010, Liverpool are hopeful that the La Liga leaders would accept an offer this summer for the player.
The Cameroon international is top goal scorer in the Spanish league and has played an important part in Barcelona’s dominance this season.
It’s believed that Rafa Benitez’s has been given a £30million war chest to spend this summer, and a move for Eto’o would make a hefty dent in that. |

Rafael Benitez: I Contemplated Leaving Liverpool
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitezhas revealed that he gave serious thought to leaving the club before finally signing a new five-year contract at Anfield last month.
It appears that uncertainty at boardroom level caused Benitez to question his own future.
However, the Spaniard insists that the doubts have since faded and he is now fully committed to taking the club forward.
"It is true that at times I may have thought about my future," Benitez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
"It will be easier now the contract is done. Once you sign a contract you know you can start thinking about the future. That is why it was important to get it done as soon as possible.
"The uncertainty at the club was the only thing on my mind before. But delaying the decision before saying yes at the end of the season would have been worse for everyone because we would have lost some of our transfer targets or [would] certainly [be] at a disadvantage."
