Trezeguet抯 poor showing casts doubt over his future with Les Bleus

[quote]SOCHAUX: The attacking partnership of David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry was once the envy of Europe. It now looks likely to be over after France抯 surprise defeat to Scotland.

It is three years since the pair last combined well

France fleece Faroes 5-0 to rebound from Scottish tragedy

SOCHAUX, France (AFP) - France rebounded from their deserved 1-0 defeat by Scotland last Saturday with a dominant 5-0 win over Scandinavian minnows the Faroe Islands.

Manchester United's Louis Saha continued his rise up his coach Raymond Domenech's striking hierarchy by hitting the net after just 36 seconds to claim his fourth goal in 17 games.

Goals from Thierry Henry and second half substitutes Nicolas Anelka and David Trezeguet (two) then sealed a win that will provide a crumb of comfort for Domenech after their shock defeat to Scotland.

However France failed to move ahead of Scotland in group B, despite having a superior goals difference but behind them on head to head.

Domenech sent out second choice goalkeeper Mickael Landreau knowing he would be a more than capable replacement for the injured Gregory Coupet.

Chelsea defender Claude Makelele was also sidelined, officially because of an ankle injury picked up on Tuesday.

With the 1-0 defeat in Glasgow still fresh in their minds France went out with purpose, and the effect was immediate.

An early cross by defender Willy Sagnol found Henry, whose cross to the far post was easily tapped in by Saha.

The only consolation for the visitors was that his goal on 36 seconds was two seconds slower than the French record strike of Franck Sauzee who took just 34 seconds to open against Albania in March 1991.

The Faroes were soon on the back foot, and Henry added to their workload when he pounced at the far post to hit their second just after 20 minutes.

France dominated the first half in embarrassing fashion, with Henry and Saha running the Faroes' defence ragged in search of further goals.

However France did not get the ball in the net again until late in the second half.

On the hour mark Juventus striker David Trezeguet replaced Saha and Henry made way for Nicolas Anelka.

Bolton striker Anelka waited only a few minutes before being allowed to unleash a shot from the edge of the area, but it went a metre over Mikkelsen's crossbar.

Anelka soon made the difference following a period in which consistent French attacks were bravely repelled by the visitors' defence.

When it came, it was the simplest of goals. The Bolton striker stuck his leg out to divert the ball home after Trezeguet had prodded on a corner by Florent Malouda.

Moments later Trezeguet beat Mikkelsen at his near post with a first-time shot from the edge of the area after receiving the ball from Sagnol.

Mikkelsen had more bad luck when he failed to hold on to a shot from Malouda.

Trezeguet, who was running in, picked up the rebound and tucked the ball home from a tight angle to beat the keeper and give the hosts a scoreline more akin to their global stature.

France 5-0 Faroes: Premiership trio on target

SOCHAUX, France, Oct 11 (Reuters) - France bounced back four days after their surprise defeat by Scotland to crush the Faroe Islands 5-0 in their Euro 2008 Group B qualifier on Wednesday.

The World Cup runners-up, who were beaten 1-0 on Saturday at Hampden Park, outclassed brave but limited opponents to score their third win out of four matches in the campaign and join Scotland on nine points.

Louis Saha opened the scoring 37 seconds into the game from a headed pass by Thierry Henry, who doubled the advantage from close range after 22 minutes.

France then failed to make the dominance pay in a one-sided match until waking up in the last 15 minutes with two goals by David Trezeguet and one from fellow substitute forward Nicolas Anelka.
