Chunky alloy wheels and a revised front bumper pick the newcomer out from lesser models. Its larger grille improves air flow to keep the uprated engine and brakes cool, while wire mesh gives it a more purposeful look. At the back, changes include a revised rear bumper, which houses four tell-tale exhaust pipes. They're likely to be fed off a tweaked version of the brand's 260bhp 3.2-litre V6 engine. With more power on tap, the GTA should storm from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds. To avoid the unruly handling that characterised the previous 156 GTA, the hot saloon will boast Alfa's Q4 all-wheel-drive set up. Alfa chief Antonio Baravalle said: "We don't need rear-wheel-drive to become a world-wide brand." But he admitted that the door was open for the forthcoming 8C coup

Alfa Romeo is seriously considering giving a hard time to the biggest German manufacturers. A V8 powered 159 GTA is currently under testings and will be unveiled next year at the Geneva Motor Show. When it will go on sale in early 2009 it will compete with the BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG.

Built as a successor for the 156 GTA, the 159 GTA (Gran Turismo Allegerita) will feature rear spoiler, unlike its predecessor, large low-profile tyres, slightly flared wheelarches, and side skirts.

So, under the hood there will be a 4.3 litre V8 engine built as an evolution of the 4.244 cc GranSport unit. The engine delivers around 440 bhp at 7000 rpm with 505 Nm of torque. And it only weights 183 kg. The very good news about this engine is that with minimum of modifications it can deliver more of 500 hp. But Alfa Romeo we keep the target under 420 hp, as the M3 delivers 414 hp.

The V8 engine will be mated with a wheel-drive system and, probably, sequencial gear. That is why the future Alfa Romeo 159 GTA has all the right characteristics to challenge without fear its aggressive German competitors: not only 400 horsepower, but also high handling quality and reliability!

The V8 engine will be mounted transversely similar to the old Lancia Thema 8.32. Compared to the standard 159 it will loose 130 kg. Part of the weight reduction are going to be high-performance parts such as Brembo CCM (Composite Ceramic Material) brakes, used only in high performance cars such as the Ferrari F430.

The 2009 159 GTA will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 4 seconds and its top speed will be limited to 155 mph.

Someone on the Autopareri forums managed to get a couple of snapshots of an Alfa Romeo 159 GTA test mule.

In the photo from the front you can get a tantalizing glance of the red cylinder heads, typical of Ferrari and Maserati V8s, transversely mounted. The photo of the rear shows four oval exhaust tubes.

There are some doubts about the precise nature of the engine in this test mule: some details seem to point to a bi-turbo version of the Holden-derived 3.2 V6, which was supposed to equip the first mules of the 159 GTA, but was subsequently rejected (too much torque for the transmission) in favor of a V8.

The Ferrari/Maserati-derived V8 engine should weigh just 20 kg more than the 3.2 V6 of the 159, and 30 kg less than trhe 2.4 JTDm turbo-diesel engine, and rumours about the GTA say that it should weigh 7/8% less than the 159 3.2 V6 Q4, with which it shares the four-wheel drive system, with a 65% bias to the rear for torque distribution.

My 2 cents..

Yang selalu problematic bg Selespeed adalah model yang terawal..

Kalau tak silap aku, ade banyak version utk Selespeed.. ade 3 Generation..

Yang 2st batch keluar, tahun 1998 pakai 1st Gen dan yg ni agak problematic..

Then keluar yg 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen utk model tahun 2001 ke atas..

Bab tahun tu aku tak sure, kalau nak tahu lebih kene brwse kat italiaauto.net

Megikut pengalaman aku la, yg problem adalah actuator.

Macam aku raye tahun lepas, sebelum balik, pomen dah bagitau dah, actuator dah on the way nak kong dah ni. Tapi die ckp mungkin sempat balik raya, mungkin tak.. Jadi aku membebalkan diri aku utk balik jugak.. Jadi..

Time tgh beraye, Gear aku stuck kat gear 3 je....all the way gear 3.. dan kalau ko berhenti, die akan mati macam tali clutch rxz yg kene potong..pastu mati terus dengan keadaan gear dlm gear 3..

Senang citer, tow balik KL. Hehheehe..

Tapi aku dah tukar Actuator yg baru, so dah cun. All in all, ttg Selespeed ni, janji ada preventive maintenance, insyaallah semua ok beb.. Tp kalau buat tak reti macam kisah aku time raye, al selamat jalan lah RM3500 utk actuator. Brand new RM5000.

yang bulat2 tu v6 ke? ni v6 yg GM origin tu kan?

yg kat bawah tu yg 4.2 v8 tu kan? the same engine dorang sumbat dalam 8c competizione...

159 GTA pakai Q4 memang gempak la. tak macam previous GTA pakai FWD. handling mesti much much better.

huhuhu, sama la macam aku... dah la dekat2 raya plak tu... menatang actuator le tu... tapi worry not to semua bakal pembeli selespeed 2nd hand coz bleh kata majority owners dah repaired menatang alah tu. bleh kata semua 156/147 selespeed dah ok dah xde lagi masalah actuator tu.

Future buyer bernasib baik lah actuator dah confirm selamat for a few years...

Bangang betul SDAI ek.. kite kat Malaysia ni kire pakai kete serdak je...orang dah kuar 3 4 5 tahun, sini baru nak masuk....pastu nak secret secret pulak..

Problem dieorang antara SDAI dan Torino ni pricing giler beb...sakit hati siot..

Tapi well worth it..hehhehee..

uihhh... belum kot... macam biasa, 2nggu 2nd hand model dah running 2-3 tahun. murah sikit. 195k seriously tak mampu.

aku ingat simpan je 156 ni, sayang nak jual. 159 mungkin tak kot. aku aim brera tu... huhu... lagi 4-5 tahun, baru bleh merasa kot...

agaknya SD banyak focus dekat ford and land rover kot, so SDAI terabai... hehehe... dulu dorang buat svc ctr n showroom elok2 kat glenmarie, tutup...
