And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss. [Quran 24:31]

But I'm glad women have better rights in Muslim society than women in societies under Catholic Church...
Most people in European societies believed women are responsible for human being sent down from heaven to the earth...Adam, Eve, and the apple tree story... |

I hope you understand this poem...the speaker criticized the English society for blaming, mistreated women...
Eve's Apology by Aemilia Lanyer (1569-1645)
Now Pontius Pilate is to judge the cause
Of faultless Jesus, who before him stands,
Who neither hath offended prince, nor laws,
Although he now be brought in woeful bands.
"O noble governor, make thou yet a pause,
Do not in innocent blood imbrue thy hands;
But hear the words of thy most worthy wife,
Who sends to thee, to beg her Savior's life.
"Let barbarous cruelty far depart from thee,
And in true justice take affliction's part;
Open thine eyes, that thou the truth mayest see.
Do not the thing that goes against thy heart,
Condemn not him that must thy Savior be;
But view his holy life, his good desert.
Let not us women glory in men's fall.
Who had power given to overrule us all.
"Till now your indiscretion sets us free,
Aud makes our former fault much less appear;
Our mother Eve, who tasted of the tree,
Giving to Adam what she held most dear,
Was simply good, and had no power to see;
The after-coming harm did not appear:
The subtle serpent that our sex betrayed
Before our fall so sure a plot had laid
"That undiscerning ignorance perceived
No guile or craft that was by him intended,
For had she known of what we were bereaved,
To his request she had not condescended
But she, poor soul, by cunning was deceived;
No hurt therein her harmless heart intended:
For she alleged God's word, which he denies,
That they should die, but even as gods be wise.
"But surely Adam cannot be excused;
Her fault though great, yet he was most to blame.
What weakness offered, strength might have refused;
Being lord of all, the greater was his shame;
Although the serpent's craft had her abused,
God's holy word ought all his actions frame;
For he was lord and king of all the earth,
Before poor Eve had either life or breath,
"Who being framed by God's eternal hand
The perfectest man that ever breathed on earth,
And from God's mouth received that strait command,
The breach whereof he knew was present death;
Yea, having power to rule both sea and land,
Yet with one apple won to lose that breath
Which God had breathed in his beauteous face,
Bringing us all in danger and disgrace;
"And then to lay the fault on patience's back,
That we (poor women) must endure it all;
We know right well he did discretion lack,
Being not persuaded thereunto at all.
If Eve did err, it was for knowledge sake;
The fruit being fair persuaded him to fall.
No subtle serpent's falsehood did betray him;
If he would eat it, who had power to stay him?
"Not Eve, whose fault was only too much love,
Which made her give this present to her dear
That what she tasted he likewise might prove,
Whereby his knowledge might become more clear;
He never sought her weakness to reprove
With those sharp words which he of God did hear;
Yet met will boast of knowledge, which he took
From Eve's fair hand, as from a learned book.
"If any evil did in her remain,
Being made of him, he was the ground of all.
If one of many worlds could lay a stain
Upon our sex, and work so great a fall
To wretched man by Satan's subtle train,
What will so foul a fault amongst you all?
Her weakness did the serpent's words obey,
But you in malice God's dear son betray,
"Whom, if unjustly you condemn to die,
Her sin was small to what you do commit.
All mortal sins that do for vengeance cry
Are not go be compared unto it;
If many worlds would altogether try
By all their sins the wrath of God to get,
This sin of yours surmounts them all as far
As doth the sun another little star.
"Then let us have our liberty again,
And challenge to yourselves no sovereignty.
You came not in the world without our pain,
Make that a bar against your cruelty;
Your fault being greater, why should you disdain
Our being your equals, free from tyranny?
If one weak woman simply did offend,
This sin of yours hath no excuse nor end,
"To which, poor souls, we never gave consent
Witness, thy wife, O Pilate, speaks for all,
Who did but dream, and yet a message sent
That thou shouldest have nothing to do at all
With that just man; which, if thy heart relent,
Why wilt thou be a reprobate with Saul
To seek the death of him that is so good,
For thy soul's health to shed his dearest blood?" |

Well Mr Me the muslims are a confused lot.
If you ask a hundred from different countries, they will give you all different answers about the tudung.
Even the verse they quote, some of them says it only refers to muhammad's wives.
So go figure.
If you think wira knows the answer, you are absolutely wrong. I dont think he has even read the quran whole.

Got one more lah... its Q33:59
read the interpretation of Q33:59 by the guys from www.islam-qa.com
揙 Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft?Forgiving, Most Merciful |

I'm so tired of this thread. It's really pointless to discuss on things that we don't really know. As far as I'm concerned, Muslim women covering their face with veils esp. those in the Middle East countries got something to do with their culture & not something religious. Even the guys are covering their face b'coz of their environment ie. deserts.
So when these ladies come to Msia or any other places on this planet, they still prefer to cover their face with veils b'coz they're so used to it & not comfortable without the veils. It's normal!

My reply:-
Whatever it's, more & more Muslim women are wearing tudungs (despite of different answers on tudungs as claimed by you) & even in Bosnia.

in the future, the earth will getting hotter bcoz of the ozone layer hole!!so maybe that time, everyone on this earth will cover their face including men!! so wearing a tudung can protect ur face from the UV effects, wearing a tudung or covering your face are useful in any place in the world... from Artic,desert, or in a tropical humid such as malaysia, there's a scientific value of it....what a futuristic approach!

Your scenario seem to please some people... but it's off-key.
UN have taken steps to stop the depletion of the ozone layer. Fortunately developed nations that created the problem realise their error in using ozone depleting substance like the CFC. The usage of ozone depleting substance are being phased out. By natural ozone production process rate, it is estimated that the damaged ozone layer will recover in about 50years time.
Anyway, Allah in surah 33:59 specifically mentions women to cover their faces... not man. There is no scientific value in it but only an arabian male-chauvinist idea to control women folks.
Lets read again the sura courtesy of www.islam-qa.com ...
