Dalam bahasa ilmu Tasawwuf, NPD ni disebut sebagai penyakit hati. Hati yg memiliki sifat keji lagi tercela (sifat mazmumah). Antaranya sombong, bongkak, takabbur, hebat, masyhur, ujub, perlu sanjungan manusia, memandang rendah orang lain, tidak boleh dikritik dsb.
Semua orang pun akan diuji dgn penyakit NPD, terutama yg merasakan dia lebih segala-galanya dari orang lain. Orang yg sombong walau seberat zarrah tidak akan masuk jannah. Hanya yg ikhlas dan merendah hati kpd Tuhannya berjaya. InsyaaAllah.
