BREAKING: Sanjay Leela Bhansali slapped by angry protesters, Padmavati set vandalised

We had reported that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had kickstarted the second schedule of his magnum opus film Padmavati in Rajasthan. The cast was supposed to shoot in places like Amer and Jaigarh Forts and the security had been beefed up on the sets of the film. But, in a shocking turn of events, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked by a mob of protesters on Friday evening.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali was slapped and assaulted by the angry members of Karni Sena at Jaigarh fort in Jaipur where the cast was shooting for Padmavati. In a video that has surfaced on social media and instantly went viral, one can see an angry mob of protesters going berserk, damaging the film’s set, cameras and other shooting equipment while abusing and raising slogans against the filmmaker and the cast. All the shooting equipment had been smashed. The video shows the protesters getting violent with the crew of the Padmavati especially Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bhansali, who was seated in front of the monitor, was soon surrounded by the angry protesters and before he could do anything, the filmmaker was physically assaulted. He was slapped and his hair was pulled by the angry mob as the filmmaker tried to shield himself.
Later, the police reached, Bhansali was escorted safely and the protesters were immediately arrested. As of the now, the shooting of the film has been temporarily halted. Senior Police officer, Anshuman Bhomia, said that filmmakers are planning to pack up and won’t be shooting in Rajasthan.
Vikram Singh, a Karni Sena activist, reportedly said that the film Padmavati which will feature Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini is presenting wrong facts. He said that any kind of the distortion of historic facts will not be tolerated by the people. Apparently, Bhansali will be shooting an intimate dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji. As the people of Rajasthan consider Rani Padmini sacred, the protesters said that they won’t tolerate any of such distortion. The Karni Sena has demanded to remove any kind of alleged love scenes between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji.
For those who are unaware, this is the same body that had earlier protested against Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar which featured Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Padmavati is a period drama which traces the story of Queen Padmini who famously refused to submit to emperor Alauddin Khilji when he had arrived at the Chittorgarh fort with his army. Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Raja Rawal Ratan Singh and is slated to release on November 17.
