“Japanese Americans” drama wins grand prize in 19th Hashida Awards
The winners were recently announced for the 19th Hashida Awards, which are presented annually to works and individuals in the field of television. This time, the grand prize was given to the TBS drama special “99-nen no Ai ~Japanese Americans~” from last November that starred SMAP member Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.
The Hashida Award was also given to “Shogen Kiroku: Heishitachi no Sensou” (NHK), screenwriter Sakamoto Yuji (“Mother,” NTV), and actor Fukuyama Masharu (“Ryomaden,” NHK).
The newcomer award went to Matsushita Nao and Mukai Osamu for their roles in the popular NHK series “Gegege no Nyoubou.”
A special prize was awarded to actress Nomura Akiko for “Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari” (TBS).
The awards ceremony will be held on May 10 in Nishi-Waseda, Tokyo.
“GANTZ: PERFECT ANSWER” has recorded bigger sales and larger crowds at its opening, reports Cinema Today on April 25.
The movie stars Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya and actor Kenichi Matsuyama. Although the first movie earned an impressive 3.4 billion yen at the box office at its opening in January, its sequel has earned more than 4 billion yen. By 1pm on the movie’s opening day on April 23, cinemas across the country had recorded ticket sales of 104 per cent compared to the first movie.
It has been reported a large portion of the crowd attending the opening day event in Tokyo were women, including daughters and mothers or girl friend groups, showing the movie’s appeal to fans in their teens to 40s.
The “GANTZ” movies are based on the popular SF manga series of the same name, which is still being published. Because of this the sequel has invented it’s own original ending to the story.
SMAP's first digital single "not alone ~Shiawase ni narouyo~" was released for download as a ringtone on 25th April. The full song will be available for download on 4th May, and for every download 100 yen will be donated to the Marching J disaster relief fund.
The song was written and arranged by renowned composer Kanno Yoko, with lyrics by advertisement planner Gonpa Naruhiro.

SMAP’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi could not fight back his tears as he gave his speech at an awards ceremony in Tokyo on May 10, reports Sankei Sports and Sponichi Annex.
The Johnny’s star was attending the 19th Hashida Awards, which recognises TV shows that have touched people across Japan or the Japanese culture. This year’s Grand Prize went to, “99年の愛 (99-nen no Ai)〜JAPANESE AMERICANS〜”, which had starred Kusanagi and actress Yukie Nakama.
It has been reported Kusanagi had tears running down his face as he accepted the award and talked about its significance following the 3/11 Tohoku earthquake.
“Even though none of us were real blood relatives, I felt like the cast and I became a real family. I know there are a lot of people in the disaster area who are going through a hard time right now, but I think humans definitely feel better when someone is beside them,” he said.
It has been reported Nakama stepped off stage to get some tissues for Kusanagi.
This year’s Hashida prize went to NHK’s “龍馬伝 (Ryomaden)” and the Best New Actor prize went to Nao Matsushita and Osamu Mukai for their work in NHK TV drama “ゲゲゲの女房 (Gegege no Nyobo)”.
