Posted on February 22, 2011 by tokyograph

TOKIO member Matsuoka Masahiro (34) is set to star in the newly announced NTV drama series “Koukousei Restaurant.” This will be his 7th time starring in the network’s Saturday 9:00pm time slot, setting a new record.

Matsuoka plays a former chef who gets appointed as a temporary teacher for an unambitious high school class in a rural town. The story is based on an actual teacher in the Mie prefecture who became the talk of the town after opening a restaurant with his students.

Matsuoka’s previous dramas in NTV’s Saturday night time slot include the “Psychometrer Eiji” series. Before this new series, Matsuoka was the lead actor in that slot six times, tying him with Nishida Toshiyuki (63) and Mizutani Yutaka (58).

“Koukousei Restaurant” will premiere in April.

Posted on March 6, 2011 by tokyograph

With the final episode of the “3 Nen B Gumi Kinpachi Sensei” drama series drawing near, more details about the cast have been revealed. It was reported today that 151 of the show’s graduates will make an appearance on the show, which will run for four hours on March 27.

“3 Nen B Gumi Kinpachi Sensei” has had 8 seasons since 1979. Lead actor Takeda Tetsuya (61), playing the beloved Kinpachi-sensei, has guided 239 students to graduation during that time. Not counting the third season, which was the only one not set at Sakura Junior High School, there have been 209 students under Kinpachi-sensei’s care. With 151 of them returning for the finale, that accounts for more than 70% of his students at Sakura Junior High School.

It was announced in February that Kinpachi-sensei’s new class includes Hey! Say! JUMP member Okamoto Keito (17) as a troublemaker named Kageura. The story will unfold when he skips class and runs into Hoshino, a former student from the first season played by Kondo Masahiko (46). Hoshino fondly recounts his memories from his days as student, warning Kageura not to cause trouble for Kinpachi-sensei.

According to Sports Hochi, the confirmed cast includes:
Season 1: Kondo Masahiko, Sugita Kaoru, Tsuchiya Kaori, Mihara Junko
Season 2: Naoe Kiichi, Hikaru Ippei

Ohno Satoshi to host TV series on Jakuchu’s art
Posted on March 4, 2011 by tokyograph

Arashi member Ohno Satoshi (30) has been appointed as the navigator of a short series on NHK’s BS Premium satellite channel, marking his first opportunity to host a television show on his own. The show, called “Jakuchu Miracle World,” will air on four consecutive nights, from April 25 to April 28.

The show covers the life of painter Ito Jakuchu (often referred to simply as Jakuchu), who lived between 1716 and 1800, during the mid-Edo period. In particular, state-of-the-art technology will be used to analyze his works in detail.

Ohno himself is a painter and sculptor. In 2008, he held an art exhibition called “FREESTYLE,” which started in Tokyo and traveled to other major cities across Japan. It is said that Ohno became a fan of Jakuchu’s works about five years ago, after receiving a recommendation from a friend.

BS Premium is a new high-definition satellite channel that will start on April 1, when NHK consolidates its three satellite channels into two. “Jakuchu Miracle World” will be broadcast from 9:00pm to 10:00pm on April 25-27, and from 8:00pm to 9:00pm on April 28.

Johnny’s Entertainment plans energy-cutting measures, charity CD

Management agency Johnny's Entertainment announced on Saturday that it is planning to take additional actions in response to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region. The company’s plans include drastically reducing power consumption for its concerts, the release of a charity CD, and charity events.

Due to the effects of the earthquake, Johnny’s Entertainment canceled all 18 of its remaining concerts for March. A few days ago, the company announced that it would use the transport trucks and power generator trucks that it had contracted for the concerts to send supplies and electricity to the disaster areas instead. The first of those have already arrived at their destination. In addition, Johnny’s Entertainment donated 2,000 liters of gasoline that were stored for use in concerts.

Tackey & Tsubasa’s Takizawa Hideaki (28) and Imai Tsubasa (29) and NYC’s Nakayama Yuma (17) accompanied the trucks to the disaster areas to see the situation firsthand.

So far, the company has sent relief supplies and posted messages of support on its website, but a manager stated that it wants to contribute in ways that only Johnny’s Entertainment can.

Starting in April, the company plans to greatly reduce power consumption for its concerts, since eastern Japan has been facing a shortage of power due to the failure of the important nuclear plants at Fukushima. As long as future concerts don’t get canceled, the company aims to reduce usage to only 10%, from an average of 3,000 kilowatts per concert to only 300 kilowatts.

It is not clear when that plan will go into effect. The company has already decided to postpone its early April concerts – Yamashita Tomohisa in Osaka on April 1-3 and Tackey & Tsubasa in Yokohama on April 2-3.

Besides its energy conservation measures, Johnny’s Entertainment is seriously considering releasing a charity CD and holding charity events. Details are not yet known, but it appears that the charity CD may be an expansion of the J-FRIENDS unit (TOKIO, V6, KinKi Kids) that was created in 1997 in response to the Great Hanshin earthquake of 1995. Some reports say that the new project may include all of the talents under Johnny’s Entertainment.

Johnny’s Entertainment launches charity project Marching J

Johnny's Entertainment has just announced the creation of a charity project called Marching J, which will reportedly involve all of its managed artists. The project, first hinted at earlier this month, was established in response to the recent Tohoku earthquake and will work towards providing support to the affected areas.

Marching J’s first activity will be a fundraising event outdoors at Yoyogi National Gymnasium on April 1-3. Almost all of the major Johnny’s artists – including Kondo Machihiko, Shonentai, and SMAP – will participate in the event. Even Johnny's Jr. members who have not yet debuted will be involved, pushing the total number of participants to over 100 people.

The event is planned to take place between 10:00am and 6:00pm for each of those three days, involving talk sessions and other activities. Donations will be accepted until 5:00pm each day. The artists will show up at the venue as their schedule permits, though it is said that about 10 artists will serve as the main hosts and be there the whole day. The event’s catchphrase is “Denki o tsukawazu genki o tsukaou,” which roughly translates as “Let’s use energy without using energy (electricity).”

It was also announced that a charity baseball tournament will be held at Tokyo Dome on May 29, mainly involving Johnny’s Jr. members.

Update: Details about the event time have been updated. According to Sponichi Annex, Inohara Yoshihiko and Akanishi Jin will be unable to participate due to their work schedules.
