Did Michael Jackson Fall Victim to a Rogue Physician?
Conrad Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in relation to the death of Michael Jackson. I am not an attorney but I can read, comprehend and I can certainly comment professionally on the matter of 'reasonable care'.
The legal definition of involuntary manslaughter is as follows: an unintentional killing that occurs as the result of improper use of reasonable care or skill while performing a legal act, or while committing an act that is unlawful but not felonious.
There seems to be two fundamental requirements for involuntary manslaughter.
• Was there a death/killing while under the care of another?
• Did the caregiver utilize proper and reasonable care/skill?
Michael died while under the direct care of Conrad Murray; little controversy there.
The second question of 'did the caregiver utilize proper and reasonable care/skill' requires a bit more investigation.
What is proper and reasonable care/skill for a physician to administer the medication Propofol?
Propofol can be a tricky medication because it may behave differently in every patient. What by dosing guidelines for weight may be considered to be a small dose may induce profound sedation in some people with little to no warning. Proper monitoring and rescue equipment must be readily available and the caregiver must be proficient in their use.
Unlike other medication, there is no anti-dote or antagonist medication for Propofol to reverse its actions. As with many medications, if the physician desires to reverse the effects of the medication another drug can be administered to accomplish this task; thus providing a back up and an additional measure of safety. No such drug currently exists to reverse Propofol.
Below you will find a short blurb included to give this discussion a bit more perspective:
STATEMENT ON SAFE USE OF PROPOFOL
Committee of Origin: Ambulatory Surgical Care
(Approved by the ASA House of Delegates on October 27, 2004, and amended on
October 21, 2009)
• The practitioner administering propofol for sedation/anesthesia should, at a minimum, have the education and training to identify and manage the airway and cardiovascular changes which occur in a patient who enters a state of general anesthesia, as well as the ability to assist in the management of complications.
The practitioner monitoring the patient should be present throughout the procedure and be completely dedicated to that task. • During the administration of propofol, patients should be monitored without interruption to assess level of consciousness, and to identify early signs of hypotension, bradycardia, apnea, airway obstruction and/or oxygen desaturation. Ventilation, oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure should be monitored at regular and frequent intervals.
There are literally hundreds of medical articles written on safety issues related to the proper use of Propofol. As the literature an experience emphasizes, Propofol is not a drug to be taken or administered casually.
I have also reviewed the package insert provided by the maker of Propofol/Diprivan,
AstraZenca. This information that accompanies every package of Propofol does not
list the treatment of insomnia as an approved indication for use of the drug; nor
does is state that Propofol is appropriate for use outside of a highly monitored
hospital or surgical facility.
Propofol is not a drug that can be left unsecured where it may be used inadvertently
or improperly. If a patient comes in possession of Propofol it was either not properly
secured or the patient broke into a locked medication box or pharmacy to steal it.
Did Conrad Murray:
• Receive proper training for the induction on general anesthesia?
• Have proper rescue equipment available and maintain proficiency in its' proper use?
• Utilize proper monitoring equipment?
• Maintain constant supervision of the patient at all times and stay dedicated to the
• task (Did not leave to speak on the phone or take rest room breaks)?
• Properly secure the drug Propofol?
• Administer Propofol for an approved condition/indication?
Conrad Murray will be granted the opportunity to have his day in court and have his guilt or innocence determined by a jury of his peers. If only the facts are to be considered this trial shouldn't take very long.

A Living Monument For Michael Jackson : Memorial Forest in Turkey
The sign, which stands with pride in front of the young saplings, proclaims a cause to acquire a monumental status of Michael Jackson's memorial, under the light of his 'healing the world' ideal to which he dedicated his life.
The forest was established as a tribute to Michael Jackson, located in SouthWest Turkey, by MJTurkFan, the first and biggest Michael Jackson fan club in Turkey, created in 2001 and TEMA the Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion.
The donation campaign had started in October,2009 and ended in December.

Have any of you heard or watched a one hour special of Debbie Rowe which aired on Australian TV and was exclusive to FOXTEL called "THE DEBBIE ROWE INTERVIEW: THE MISSING TAPES." It premiered on Arena Monday, July 20, 2009 at 7.30pm AEST.
The interview is suppose to be hours of unedited footage done in response to Martin Bashir interview with MJ. I guess Debbie was answering questions about her and Michael's first meeting, marriage, the children, and her divorce. Clips of the interview / video was on youtube, but I see that it has been taken down due to terms of use violation. Debbie probably had her lawyers take it down. Below is a piece of the interview that an Australian Newspaper put out. Article was on PerthNow.com, by Peter Rolfe. But since the article ran on July 18, 2009 they no longer have it on their site. I had to get this from another forum who actually copied and pasted the article before PerthNow took it off their site. But anyway, if someone can find this whole interview of Debbie Rowe: The missing tapes, please post it!
MICHAEL Jackson's former wife has said she shared their bed with up to five people, convinced him to have children and married him in Australia on a whim. Debbie Rowe, Jackson's wife of three years, has revealed she pleaded with Jackson to let her have his children and was behind the decision to make them wear masks in public.
In a tell-all interview, she disputed claims she never had sex with Jackson. ``Yes we slept together,'' she said.
And she said there were several occasions when other people joined her and Jackson under the covers.
``There's been five people in our bed,'' she said. ``I would hope that your bed is the most comfortable place in the house.''
Rowe, who married Jackson in Sydney in 1996, denied she was paid to have Jackson's children or was artificially inseminated. She said she persuaded him to have two children with her because ``he was such a good friend''.
``I could do something for him and this is what I wanted to do,'' she said.
``People don't understand that. They wanted a traditional (marriage) - they have this notion of Beaver Cleaver. That's not reality in the 21st century ... and if it makes people uncomfortable, it's a shame that they're not more open.
``I said: `Let me do this for you. Please let me do this.' I nagged him into it, if you will.''
Rowe, who met Jackson 30 years ago when she was working at a Beverly Hills dermatology clinic, said their relationship was based on friendship rather than true love. She had a miscarriage before the birth of their first child, Prince Michael, and married Jackson only ``to prevent some of the taboo of a child out of wedlock.''
``The kids were going to have it hard enough as it was,'' she said. ``They didn't need to have that label placed upon them like their father has had so many placed upon him. ``We wouldn't have got married if we didn't have kids.''
Rowe said she split with Jackson in 1999 because she was sick of the media attention, but first instructed him to cover the faces of their children in public because she feared they would be kidnapped. ``Their faces being covered was my request, not his,'' she said. ``I'm the one who's seen the notes, that someone is going to take his children. There's nothing more terrifying than looking at a piece of paper that says, `I'm taking them'.''
Rowe said she wanted to set the record straight after years of rumour and innuendo about her relationship with the music icon. ``You can only take lies for so long,'' she said. ``I'm tired of the lies. I'm tired of the bullst.''
She said Jackson proposed when she was five months pregnant. ``He said let's get married, so I said OK,'' she said.
They were married by a justice of the peace in a rushed private ceremony at a Sydney hotel.
This week Rowe filed a lawsuit accusing a woman of falsifying emails to defame her. In documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, she accuses Rebecca White of defamation, invasion of privacy and causing emotional distress. Ms Rowe said Ms White fabricated emails that purported to showed she did not want custody of her children after Jackson's death. She contends she did not send the emails, and that she had not been in communication with Ms White at all since Jackson's death on June 25. Ms White could not be reached for comment on the lawsuit and Rowe's lawyer has not specified what sort of damages are being sought.
