City in takeover talks Thu, 07 Dec 2006 15:36
Manchester City say they have opened talks with a possible new investor and could become the latest Premiership side taken over.
There is talk that the club could become the subject of a possible £70m takeover deal and City have been looking for potential investors to put in some money as they look to keep up with the rest of the Premiership.
Following takeovers at Old Trafford, Villa Park and Upton Park recently, and with the prospect of a buyout at Liverpool, it is now City's turn to speak to possible new investors.
Chairman John Wardle revealed at City's annual general meeting: "We are currently in talks with an investor that may lead to potential investment.
"The board is aware that we need further investment to maintain our challenge in an increasingly competitive and high-finance Premier League."
