Drama Wars: IRIS and Road No. 1
One actor was last seen in the kimchi spaghetti western The Good, The Bad, The Weird . The other suffered in Bad Love. Both of these high profile Korean leading men will be appearing in blockbuster dramas next year.
Leading men in high profile dramas in 2009
Lee Byung Hun will make his drama comeback in the spy thriller IRIS (아이리스 ). The drama will be
shot in locations around the world (including the USA) and will be directed by maestro Kang Je Gyu. Kang directed blockbuster movies such as Shiri (1998) and Taegugki (2004).
Kwon Sang Woo on the other hand, will star in Road No. 1 (로드 넘버원 ), which is a drama about friendship during the Korean war. It will probably remind you of the movie Taegukgi.
Lee Byung Hun will be in the spy thriller IRIS
IRIS and Road No. 1 will start filming this autumn but are already attracting investors from Japan and some other countries.
IRIS is successfully inking a contract with Japanese investors, thanks to the reputation of LBH and director Kang. The producing company is also marketing the drama at Cannes International Film Festival at the moment.
Road No.1 will also be marketed in Japan and there are already talks with American investors as well.
LBH will start work on IRIS by September. IRIS will be aired in early 2009.
KSW will start work on Road No.1 by next February. Road No.1 will be aired on MBC, June 2009.

Taewon Entertainment quits stock market
Producer aims to start over as private company, retain key projects

SEOUL – Influential South Korean producer Chung Taewon is to quit his eponymous production powerhouse Taewon Entertainment.
Chung, who personally held 17% of the company, and other major shareholders FireWorks International (35%) and Cannizaro Asia Master Fund Ltd.(17%), have sold their shares to private buyers Cho Jung-ho and HC Partners, Inc. Transaction was valued at $18.5 million.
Share sales appear to mean the end of the road for the stock market- listed Taewon Entertainment as an entertainment and media operation. Company changed its articles of association this month to make energy and resources its business activities. On Sept 5 it will change its name to MPlus I.
Chung, however, has other plans and has already established an unlisted film company named Taewon Production and will continue to produce and co-produce films.
Projects include the previously announced Yuen Wo-ping comedy actioner "Spaghetti Versus Noodle" and Lee Byung-hun starring TV series "IRIS." Chung expects to be able to reclaim the Taewon Entertainment monicker later.
Decision to quit the bourse appears to have been taken a while back as Chung found the demands of stock market listing, quarterly performance measurement and investor scrutiny incompatible with activities of a movie producer.
Taewon Entertainment was one of several Korean film players including Cinema Service and MK Pictures, which used backdoor stock listings to access the capital markets, but with the crashing of the 'Korean Wave' soon regretted their decisions.
Chung has an enviable production track record with credits including "My Wife is a Gangster," "Bichunmoo" and the recent "Three Kingdoms." Taewon Entertainment was for several years New Line Cinema's main distribution outlet in Korea.

Lee Byunghun is back in Korea after more than (accumulated) 200 over days of filming overseas. He has recently finished filming 'GI Joe: Rise of Cobra' in the US and returned home after few weeks finalizing his scenes in the movie.
LBH will finally have a break of 2 months before starting on the filming of 'IRIS', presumably in November. |

Taewon Entertainment leaves stock market
CHUNG Tae-won's long-lived production company Taewon Entertainment, which has made such diverse films as Nowhere to Hide (1999), Marrying the Mafia (2002), and Shadowless Sword (2006), is effectively de-listing from the KOSDAQ stock exchange.
CHUNG and other stockholders FireWorks International and Cannizaro Asia Master Fund sold their shares to a group of private investors who will convert the listed company to a energy and resources firm. Meanwhile, CHUNG is establishing a new, unlisted company called Taewon Production which will continue to produce its current lineup.
The move marks the end of an era in many ways. Beginning in 2005, a large number of Korean film companies including Taewon Entertainment, MK Pictures, Tube Pictures, and others achieved "backdoor" listings on the stock exchange through reverse acquisitions such as that described above. Given the mid-decade craze over Korean content and the "Korean Wave,"many of the companies saw their value soar.
However, when such companies began to expand their level of production, a bubble was created and too many films were made, leading to the downturn in profitability which still plagues the industry today. Many companies also found that the demands of running a listed company, including quarterly performance reports for investors, were not well suited to the film business.
Taewon's current projects include the TV drama IRIS starring Lee Byung-heon and the Asian co-production Spaghetti Versus Noodle by Yuen Woo-ping.

Son Ye Jin "Lee Byung Hun's Lover This Time"
October 4, 2008 - Heroine of drama 'IRIS' is picked.
Son Ye-Jin becomes Lee Byung-Hun's woman. In spy drama 'IRIS' planned to broadcast in the 1st half of next year, Son Ye-Jin will play the role of National Secret Service (NSS) "Lee Myung-Hee".
'IRIS' will be joinly produced by director Kang Je-Kyu and Taewon Entertainment; it will be directed by PD Lee Hyung-Min of KBS2 TV 'I Am Sorry I Love You'. Filled with anticipation, it is a grand Korean drama with a production cost of 20 billion Won.
Son Ye-Jin gave a different image/performance in MBC drama "Spotlight" (ended in July) where she played the role of a society newsdesk reporter. In movie "My Wife Got Married" (opening on the 28th), she plays a married woman who would like to have a second husband.
After wrapping up related promotional works for movie "My Wife Got Married", Son Ye-Jin will officially start the filming activities. Son Ye-Jin said in a recent interview that the lower than expected rating of her previous drama 'Spotlight' makes her want to challenge the small screen again.
'IRIS' (20 episode) will be broadcasted in the first half of next year; filming will start in November. |

IRIS ditayangkan awal tahun 2009. Bulan November kalau tak ada aral.. baru nak mula filming.

Hi kayla, Hi mariss!
Tak sangka pulak ada mixed response kat sini. Personally, saya tak kisah SYJ.. walaupun some of her work tak begitu menyerlah.. acting-wise.. dia antara pelakon yang ada potensi.. sanggup 'berubah' to give her best.
Katt pun bukanlah peminat SYJ.. first time tengok dalam Summer Scent.. memang no effect. Tapi.. bila tengok dia dalam "A Moment to Remember".. quite impressed dengan her acting.. not bad at all. Dari segi appearance pun.. nampak quite mature.
Tapi.. apakan daya.. |
