Samuel: We know what we must do
Walter Samuel is confident Inter will start their Champions League campaign on "the front foot" when they meet Fenerbahce on Wednesday night.
The Argentina international has been passed fit to play in Istanbul and is expecting Roberto Mancini's men to open their Group G campaign with a win.
"The Champions League is a competition where if you slip you play a high price," said Samuel.
"We need to start the competition on the front foot. We have a great team and we are able to overcome adversity."
Inter travel without seven first-team squad members - Julio Cruz, Nicolas Burdisso, Maicon and Ivan Cordoba are suspended while Marco Materazzi, Christian Chivu and Patrick Vieira are out through injury.
Despite their selection worries, Samuel's countryman Hernan Crespo insists Inter know what they have to do.
"It's going to be a very difficult game," said Crespo. "But we are optimistic, we must point towards the strength of the group and we are ready for this difficult test. We know what we have to do."
Despite scoring in Inter's 2-0 Serie A victory over Catania on Sunday, Crespo will be relegated to the bench, with Mancini set to start with attacking duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Suazo.
Suazo was rested for the Catania game and will be itching to impress in Turkey.
Crespo has accepted he may only play a bit part on Wednesday night.
"I am available to play," he added. "It doesn't matter if I play half an hour or 10 minutes, the important thing is that we win."
Inter moved up to second in the Serie A standings at the weekend, two points behind leaders Roma after three rounds.
Fenerbahce's Turkish international midfielder Mehmet Aurelio is determined the Istanbul club should get off to a good start against the Italian champions.
Aurelio told the club's website: "We also attach a great importance to the match against Inter in the Champions League, we want to make a good start by defeating Inter in Istanbul."
Stephen Appiah is training normally for Fener but the Ghana international midfielder is unlikely to be fit for Wednesday's game while Serdar Kulbige is another casualty although Volkan Demirel is set to start.
The game could be a memorable one for recent Fenerbahce recruit Roberto Carlos who had a stint with Inter before a long and successful stay with Real Madrid.
Fener will be keen to get at least one historic monkey off their back with Wednesday's visit from the Nerazzurri.
Two years ago they were humbled at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium by Inter's city rivals AC Milan for whom Andriy Shevchenko netted all four goals in a 4-0 win for the Rossoneri.
