Arsene Wenger Blasts 'Atrocious' Chanting From Birmingham City Fans
Arsenal manager disgusted by "atrocious" chants
Arsene Wenger has hit out at the “stupid” and “atrocious” Birmingham City fans who chanted the name of Martin Taylor at a prone Theo Walcott after the Arsenal player was injured by a heavy challenge from the Blues’ Liam Ridgewell.
It was Martin Taylor whose tackle shattered Eduardo’s lower leg at St Andrews 18 months ago, an incident that horrified players and viewers alike and put the Croatian out of the game for a year.
Walcott, who was returning after a back injury, is not expected to be out for more than couple of weeks, but the refrain evoked painful memories for many of those involved, not least Wenger.
The Arsenal manager was clearly unamused by the reference: "Frankly, that is atrocious," he said. "They will not be remembered for the quality of their taste with that kind of remark.
"I just thought 'That is low' and put it in the ranks of stupidity.
"One starts to say something stupid, everybody follows, even intelligent people.
"People lose their identity together and their sense of responsibility."
After the original incident the Frenchman initially declared that Taylor should never play football again, but later retracted the statement, and after Saturday’s game was at pains to stress his admiration for the physical power of English football.
"I want the physicality to stay, it is down to the referee to make the right decision.
"I don't want to go too overboard because one of the beauties of the English game is a total commitment, and if you cut that out of the game, the players will not improve any more.
"So we have to cut out what is really dangerous, but we have to keep the basics, the commitment that makes the league more attractive than any other."
Alex McLeish defended his player, saying that Ridgewell’s challenge was not intended to injure Walcott, a view shared by referee Lee Probert, who did not penalize the City player.
"It was like watching Stuart Pearce again, committed to getting the ball before the forward," said McLeish, who said he was not aware of any chants.
"The problem sometimes is in the follow through. But what do you do? You will end up not making a tackle at all."
The globe trotting adventures of Arsenal’s newly appointed scout Tony Adams continued over the weekend as he made the trip to Belgium to watch R.S.C. Anderlecht at their Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.
He was present to make checks on exciting striker Romelu Lukaku who turned out for the home side. The 16-year-old 6 foot 3 inch striker posses a lethal strike rate at youth level and he’s now showing that form on a bigger stage. Four goals from seven fixtures for the Brussels based outfit has seen Lukaku become one of the most talked about prospects in his home land.
Lukaku, despite his tender age, is much travelled but performed notably for his former employers FC Brussels. 68 goals in 68 games for their youth team brought the attention of giants Anderlecht, and Romelu continued his exploits after penning a contract with them. 121 goals in 88 fixtures for the B team saw him promoted into the first team.
A current Belgian Under 21 International, the forward, who isn’t 17 until May, scored on his international debut against Slovenia. Lukaku will continue to represent Belgium despite being of Congo descent. The player’s family have issued a firm ‘hands off’ warning stating Romelu will stay with Anderlecht until he is at least 18, but with his rapid goal scoring rate there will be a real struggle to keep him away from the leading lights of European football.
Adams was reported to have been very impressed and will no doubt be making further checks on the striker in the coming weeks.
wooooo... dh jadi scout ropenye si adams ni {:2_72:}
I can hardly believe I'm about to write this, but yes, I can see the merit in starting Eboue ahead of Sagna in games such as these. I'd always go for Sagna at somewhere like old Trafford but when teams show little interest in breaking forward, having Eboue's pace is no bad thing. Astonishingly, he's still diving.

Henry fancies a new challenge to end his illustrious career and MLS side New York Red Bulls are strongly tipped to be his destination, with the 32-year-old Barcelona star excited at the prospect of living in another of the world's great cities.
Henry, regarded by many people as one of Arsenal's greatest players, received a hero's reception when he visited the Emirates Stadium recently to watch their 6-2 win against Blackburn, but does not want to return there as a player.
