PMPC announces nominees for 24th Star Awards for Movies

Pormal nang inihayag ng mga bumubuo ng Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) ang mga nominado para sa gaga aping 24th Star Awards For Movies 2008, sa Hunyo 27, ika-6 ng gabi, sa Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo De Manila University, Quezon City. May TV coverage ito na ipalalabas sa Linggo, Hunyo 29, sa Channel 2, simula ika-10 ng gabi.
Makasaysayan ang Star Awards for Movies sa ika-24 na taon nito ngayong 2008, dahil sa pagkakapili nito bilang Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Awardee ang yumaong aktor-prodyuser na si Rudy Fernandez.
Para naman sa mga parangal, dalawampu't limang kategorya ang paglalabanan ng mga nominado mula sa dalawang grupo ng manlilikhang pampelikula: ang mainstream movie industry at independent o "indie" cinema na gumagawa ng mga pelikulang digital.
Maliban sa mga parangal sa pagganap, may dalawang sets of nominees ang Star Awards for Movies '08. Pararangalan ang mga pinakamahuhusay na pelikula, direktor, manunulat, at tekniko mula sa mga kategoryang Mainstream at Digital.
Para sa Movie/Director of the Year Mainstream Category ay nominado ang mga sumusunod: A Love Story (ni Maryo J. Delos Reyes), "Daddy's Angel" episode ng Angels (Jose "Dingdong" Dantes III), Ataul For Rent (Neal Tan), Katas ng Saudi at Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo (Jose Javier Reyes), One More Chance (Cathy Garcia-Molina), at Ouija (Topel Lee).
Para sa Movie/Director of the Year Digital Category ay nominado ang mga sumusunod: Confessional (nina Jerrold Tarog at Ruel Antipuesto), Pisay (Aureaus Solito), Selda (Paolo Villaluna and Ellen Ramos), Tambolista (Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr.), at Tribu (Jim Libiran).
Pinakaaabangan din taun-taon ang mga nominado at tatanghaling winners ng Star Awards for Movies, para sa dalawang major acting categories, ang Movie Actor at Movie Actress of the Year.
Sa taong ito, nasa listahan ng nominees ang mga sumusunod:
Actors: Paolo Contis (Banal), John Lloyd Cruz (One More Chance), Ryan Eigenmann (Baliw), Sid Lucero (Selda), Aga Muhlach (A Love Story), and Piolo Pascual (Paano Kita Iibigin?).
Actresses: Ai-Ai delas Alas (Ang Cute ng Ina Mo), Bea Alonzo (One More Chance), Cherry Pie Picache (Foster Child), Judy Ann Santos (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo), Maricel Soriano (A Love Story), and Lorna Tolentino (Katas ng Saudi).
Limang pinaka-supportive sa PMPC movie scribes ang nominado, pero isa nga lang ang tatanghaling Darling of the Press sa taong ito ng 24th Star Awards for Movies. Sino kaya kina Dingdong Dantes, Allan K, Luis Manzano, Diether Ocampo, at Regine Velasquez, ang pinaka-"Darling" sa gabi ng Star Awards?

Once again, Bea & John Lloyd got nominated for Star Awards for Movies..
There's a big chance that John Lloyd will get another Best Actor award again. But not discounting great actors like Aga Muchlach & Piolo Pascual, one of the few who have rare grandslam as best supporting actor.
As for Bea, she will have tough competitors like Maricel Soriano [her idol], Lorna Tolentino, Judy Anne Santos & Cherrie Pie Picache, who already won as Best Actress in the 9th Osian抯 Cinefan International Festival in New Delhi, India & Special Jury Award in Eurasia, Kazakhstan for that movie. Got screenings from Cannes Film festival, Paris international filmfest, Montreal World Film Festival & Pusan International Film Festival among others. |

Very true indeed. She surpasses people's expectations of her. Bea & JLC's performances says it all.. they're the best of their generation.
By the way, Bea went to Malaysia for a vacation for 6 days.. anyone of you saw her?! She deserved to rest even just for a week. She's been working non-stop.  |

John Lloyd Cruz maps out his life plans as he turns 25

The press conference of the movie A Very Special Love yesterday, June 24, at Burgoo resaurant on Tomas Morato, Quezon City looked like a small birthday celebration for the box-office actor John Lloyd Cruz, who turned 25 yesterday.
As another year was added to his life, John Lloyd admitted that he has became more serious compared to when he was in his earlier years in showbiz. He said, "Ewan ko if it comes with age, parang hinahanapan ko ng purpose ang lahat ng ginagawa ko."
Later on, he curiously asked the entertainment media, "Parang gusto mo may kabuluhan. Ganun ba when you reache 25? Ganun ba 'yon?"
An example of this change in his life became more evident in his plan to study more about acting. "'Yon sana ang plano ko this year after ng pelikula [A Very Special Love]," said the young actor.
John Lloyd clarified that this decision is not because he's not contented with his career right now. "Hindi naman sa may kulang pero, sabi nga ni Tita Caring [Caridad Sanchez], acting is life. So in life, it's a continuous learning, e. Continuous learning process 'yan, so ganun din sa amin.
"At saka marami din akong gustong mai-apply sa isang paraan na inaral. Kasi, di ba, ang mga Pinoy very personal ang attack, very parang instinctual? Gusto ko 'yong parang how they do it in Hollywood or in the U.K. "But I'm not saying na magwo-work 'yon dito o hindi. Gusto ko pag-aralan para lumawak 'yong kaalaman mo. Naniniwala naman ako na you can never learn too much, kailangan mo palaging matuto nang matuto. So, 'yon lang naman ang pinanggagalingan nun."
John Lloyd said that this remains as a plan because he's still not sure about what his mother network, ABS-CBN, wants him to do. "Sa ngayon, plano lang siya. Kung puwede nga lang siyang mangyari abroad, maganda. Pero kung masyado yatang impossible, maghahanap ako ng nagko-conduct ng class dito," said John Lloyd.
If this plan would continue, John Lloyd admitted that some of his followers might miss him for a while.
"Medyo risky nga 'yong move na 'yon, pero it's something long term, e, di ba? Kahit kailan, ang isang bagay na long term ay hindi mo pagsisisihan, puwede mo 'yang magamit sa matagal na panahon. At saka hindi naman ibig sabihin totally mawawala na ako, e. I'll still do ASAP, guestings, ganyan.
"Nothing is final yet. Hindi pa talaga alam, depende 'yan sa decision ng management if I'm gonna do Betty [Yo Soy Betty La Fea] or if I will do something, new movie, kailangan kong i-prioritize 'yon. Kapag nagkaroon ako ng oras, let's say a month, na hindi ako kailangan ng network, I would go for it."
JOINING CAUSE-ORIENTED GROUP. Aside from studying, John Lloyd also wants to join a cause-oriented group, Rock Ed Philippines, to push the advocacy against poverty.
The young actor said that he has thought of this since two years ago, before he renewed his contract with Star Magic. In fact, John Lloyd already mentioned his intention to the said talent arm.
He narrated, "Noong mga two or three years, nagpaalam ako sa Star Cinema kung puwede, 態aka puwedeng ano na lang po, Tita Malou [Santos], per movie na lang ang kontrata ko.' Noong mga panahon na 'yon, may naiisip akong gawin. Magmula nang naisip ko ' yon, parang frustration na lang siya at this point in my life.
The reason he wanted to join the group, which he found a couple years ago, is, "Para sa akin kasi, naniniwala pa rin ako na kaya pa ring labanan ang kahirapan. "Isa sa gusto ko talagang ma-achieve ay ang maging miyembro ng isang organisasyon na talagang hands-on, na talagang tutulong tayo sa abot ng ating makakaya natin para magbigay ng silbi sa purpose mo."
John Lloyd finds if hard to put his conviction into action because he still has to think of his job. He explained, "Dahil din siguro sa magkaibang mundo at ako naman, hindi ko rin naman mapabayaan ang trabaho ko. Para kasing mamimili ka, e梚s it work or gusto mong sundin 'yang advocacy mo? "Parang hindi pa madali sa akin ngayon ang mamili. Gusto ko munang i-maximize 'yong potential ko bilang nandito sa position na 'to. And sinasabi rin naman nila [friends from Rock Ed Philippines], 慔uwag mo madaliin. Kapag dumating 'yong time na ready ka na at hawak mo na ang oras mo, nandito pa rin kami.'"
DIFFERENT SCREEN PARTNER. While John Lloyd plans some changes in his personal life, he has been given a new love-team partner in his latest movie from Star Cinema, A Very Special Love. He co-stars with 20-year-old singer actress Sarah Geronimo, whom he has worked with in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.
Since this is a new team-up, some people are thinking that John Lloyd and Sarah might face a lot of pressure in establishing their love team since the the young actor is strongly identified with Bea Alonzo.
But the young actor disagreed. "'Yong dati sa One More Chance, 'yong mga pelikula namin ni Bea, may pressure din 'yon, e. Parang pareho lang kung pressure ang pag-uusapan.
"Ngayon, nanggagaling na lang siguro ang pressure doon kung magagawa ba namin itong pelikulang ito sa quality na gusto namin siyang magawa. Doon na lang nanggagaling 'yong pressure ko."
The actor also believe that his team-up with Sarah will click with the audience. "Doon sa tandem, ewan ko, medyo tiwala ako sa amin. Siguro hindi naman masama kung sabihin ko na naniniwala ako na meron kami [chemistry], we have it, kaming dalawa ni Sarah.
"Kung 'yon lang ang pag-uusapan, hindi namin kailangan ng isang taon na laging magkasama. Kung 'yong chemistry lang 'yong pag-uusapan, hindi ko kailangan ng five years, six years, na magkasama kami, gumagawa ng teleserye."
Although John Lloyd confessed it is really hard to convince people about his new love team, he thinks that this is the best time to make this move.
"Initially, 'yon ang mararamdaman mo, 慚ahirap kumawala yata.' Kaya nga itong move na ito, medyo somehow daring from my end, ha. Kasi coming from One More Chance na blockbuster, coming from a team-up na lahat yata ng tao kilala o nagustuhan, mahirap siya," admitted John Lloyd.
"Pero there's no other way, kailangan ko itong gawin. Kailangan ko 'tong gawin para sa akin, para sa sarili ko, para sa career ko. Para malaman ko kung hanggan saan ba ang puwede kong magawa, maibigay. Limited lang ba ako sa isang tao o puwede rin akong isama sa iba?" [ But there's no other way, I have to do this. I have to do this for myself, for my career. So for me to know where I can do more. Am I just limited for one person or I can also be with other people?"] |

There were tabloids saying that Bea-John lloyd fans will boycott the movie of Lloydie & Sarah.. as sort of protest.. But as that official statement from Labers said that it's just all FALSE RUMORS. They will Support every project given to both.. maybe it be together or not. Some people just wants to make a story out of nothing.
Even Bea was so supportive of John Lloyd & Sarah's movie as what lloydie's doing for Bea because of her upcoming I love Betty La Fea.
