guess what -
you are not the only one
who took several courses at the university
and yet none of them you apply or
even use in your career / job
but look at the bright side -
knowledge is never wasted -
and whatever you learned -- it is a knowledge
and embraced it in your life -
- you never know someday you might use
in a place you never even thought of - and you gonna say
HEY...... i learned that ---
good luck in whatever you do
and i am sure you are successful and will
always be - |

In my humble opinion, many candidates just lack practice in the usage of English be it written or oral. In the old days, we advised kids to READ. Hey, nowadays it is even easier......listen to appropriate TV programs like the BBC's...for queen's English! I have seen kids growing even on Disney Channel , speak English (American slang pula) better than most graduates. So it can be done, darlings.
I have also seen kids refusing to use the language as they think being Malays they have no business with English! Some just would not take the effort. Issues of attitude I must say. There is nothing wrong in being multilingual. It'll be advantageous anywhere.
In the private sector, English is always an important requirement. But what bothered me most is the lackadaisical stance of candidates when it comes to interviews. It they are not ill-prepared, they have an attitude like not calling back if they cannot be present at the appointed time. Excuses are h/p left at home, low battery and the likes , so could not contact then. I don't buy them! |

Yup... language problem is normal. Tak menjadi masalah sebab boleh belajar utk improve.
Yang lebih kronik ialah masalah mentality & attitude. Org kita malu nak mencuba berbahasa Inggeris bila kurang mahir, takut digelakkan, atau takut nampak tak cerdik.

Frankly, I do not found that good in Englsih stand a better chances to get a job...
Unless u wan to be a teacher or some job that require u to constantly talk in fluent English (eg. product demonstrater), I think as long as ur English is NOT that BAD, I think should be fine doing office routine job... |

hmmm ... aku dibesarkan dlm family yg lansung tak ckp Inggeris ... mmg totally ckp melayu ... mase skola rendah ... aku malu sgt bila cousin aku gelakkan aku sbb aku tatau apa itu maksud study ...tak silap aku mase tu aku darjah 2 0r 3
start dr situ ... aku mula denga lagu2 omputih ... pastu aku bace novel2 teenagers mcm sweet dreams, sweet valley high n so on ... tp bila aku dgn kwn2 ... aku x ckp English lansung even dgn kwn2 non malays ... mase tu aku malu kalo aku salah ckp.
aku start speaking mase aku form 4 ... tu pon gagap ... nervous ... tetambah bila ckp ngn cikgu ... so throughout teenhood aku byk blaja english drpd tgk cite omputih, belik majalah smash hits (zaman2 take that dulu) n baca buku cite n so on
bila zaman matrix aku dpt amek matrix tesl .... pastu bila aku amek degree ... aku tuka amek mass comm ... mase kat uni ...aku realise ... strong command of english dpt bantu aku baca buku2 n jurnal2 yg boring tu n dpt buat thesis tanpa perlu susah payah nak upah org cekkan grammar
n bila da masuk zaman2 bekerja ni pulak .. lg la ... kalo x pandai berbicara or menulis dlm english susah la jugak tetambah kalo keje swasta. |

Ni la cara yg aku buat nak kuasai bahasa Inggeris dulu...
1) rajin rujuk kamus (Inggeris-Inggeris dan Inggeris-BM)
2) rajin bertanya (terutama sekali kat cikgu & mak ayah)
3) rajib baca surat khabar BI
4) tengok TV tanpa sarikata (Contoh: Astro, CD, DVD)
5) hafal lirik lagu BI, mana2 istilah yang tak faham terus rujuk kamus |

saja nak nyampuk gak..
tgk tv citer omputeh(tanpa senikata), dgr radio omputeh, cakap omputeh, baca paper omputeh, pendek kata..semua kena omputeh..baru pandai.cam kita masa kita kecik2 kan, mak ayah cakap melayu n dikelilingi oleh orang cakap melayu, sbb tu terer cakap melayu..skolah saya..ada anak hindu tp tak tau cakap tamil sebab dia dikelilingi oleh kawan2 melayu kt umah anak yatim...kesimpulannya kena amalkan selalu cakap omputeh, betul ke tak betul kemudian kira,,jadikan ia sebagai amalan harian.... |
