According to the latest Oricon weekly sales charts, Thelma Aoyama's "Soba ni Iru ne" has reached an estimated total of more than 424,000 copies sold. This makes it the best selling single of 2008 so far, surpassing KAT-TUN's "LIPS."
"Soba ni Iru ne" charted in the Top 10 for its first 12 weeks. It also claimed the #1 spot on Recochoku's chaku-uta and chaku-uta full rankings for 3 months in a row, which had never before been done.

Shuchishin dominates April sales, announces new single

Male "baka" trio Shuchishin is hoping to be more than a one-hit wonder in their music career. They have just announced that they will release a second single, though no details have been revealed yet.
Their first single, the self-titled "Shuchishin," charted at #2 in sales for three weeks in a row, almost beating out Ayumi Hamasaki in its initial week. According to Oricon's numbers, "Shuchishin" in fact had the highest total sales for the month of April, with 217,000 copies compared to Hamasaki's 166,000 of "Mirrorcle World" and B'z's 142,000 of "Burn -Fumetsu no Face-" (which was released one week later).

leftover links...
Selected songs from last week:
"DON'T U EVER STOP" by KAT-TUN - Surprisingly, I find this song to be quite good and more suited to the group instead of stuff like LIPS or Keep the faith because let's face it, the group never had the vocal prowess to carry on such ambitious songs like the 2 rock numbers. Which is why DUES is better than anything they've done in the last 2 singles or so...
"NOBODY KNOWS" by Shikao Suga - Strictly for fans only. For me, this is quite good but easily forgettable...
"Okaeri" by ayaka - I'm not excited about this either. Feels a bit futsu to me. Also, this is the theme for the dorama Zettai Kareshi starring Mokomichi Hayami, Aibu Saki & Mizushima Hiro.
"Glider" by Otona Mode - As most, my favourite from last week is not even in the Top10. Oh well, they probably need more time to get recognized... |

EXILE dominates music sales for first half '08
Sun, June 22, 2008 (12:35am EDT)
![](http://image.yesasia.com/assets/48/614/l_p1010661448.jpg)
Oricon has published its sales rankings for the first half of 2008 (includes part of December 2007). According to the company's sales data, the group EXILE had the highest total sales of albums, singles, and music DVDs, amounting to almost 2.97 million units. The next closest artist was Kobukuro with 1.75 million, followed by KAT-TUN (1.19 million), Hikaru Utada (1.09 million), and Hideaki Tokunaga (1.01 million).
Looking only at album sales, EXILE led the rankings there as well, with "EXILE LOVE"s selling more than 1.4 million copies to rank #1 and "EXILE CATCHY BEST" selling more than 1.1 million to achieve #3. They are the first act in history to have two million-sellers within the first half of a year.
![](http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/9729/thelma2lr7.jpg)
The top single so far this year is Thelma Aoyama's "Soba ni Iru ne" with 439,000 in sales. KAT-TUN had the next two spots in the rankings, with "DON'T U EVER STOP" quickly closing in - 433,000 copies after only a month and a half of sales - and "LIPS" right behind it with 422,000 in sales.

Oricon has published its half-yearly report for 2008 ranking.
Kanjani8's "47" has made it as the no.1 half-yearly music-DVD of 2008 with 274,171 copies sold!
![](http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/3290/potatoaprilcover02we7.jpg)
In the overall DVD category, "47" is no.3 behind movie DVDs, Transformers & Pirates of Caribbean. For music-DVDs, the closest to "47" is Arashi's "SUMMER TOUR 2007 FINAL Time -Kotoba no Chikara-" with 192,605 copies. EDIT: Oricon year 2008 starts from Dec 24th 2007, about a week after "47" was released. Officially, all releases before this date were categorized as Oricon year 2007, including KT's cartoon II you (225,060), NEWS' Never Ending Wonderful Story (total: 187,188), and Arashi's AAA+DOME (total: 206,913).
