"JACK IN THE BOX brings you a specialty of "surprise box" - presenting you with a luxurious line-up that can’t be seen anywhere else"
Surpassing the fences of different production companies, "JACK IN THE BOX" brings together magnificent artists. As the "end of the year party" for MAVERICK D.C. GROUP, this event has grown into a large scale major event, although it can be backtracked to Kawasaki’s CLUB CITTA’ on December 29, 2002, where the first event ever took place.
Named "DANGER," five bands including 44MAGNUM and MUCC performed at that event. In the following year, the event "DANGER -2-" was moved to Nippon Budokan, where L’Arc~en~Ciel appeared as special guest, and gathered much attention and talk. In 2004, 12 bands including SID and P’UNK~EN~CIEL performed at "DANGER -3-." In 2005, Creature Creature appeared as the secret band in "DANGER -4-," and in "DANGER 5" of 2006 Ken, girugamesh, and artists who are now active at the top of the scene gathered at this event. The "DANGER" event, originally meant to be a celebratory event for the 20th Year Anniversary of DANGER CRUE RECORDS has grown every year, and in 2007, the host position is transferred to MAVERICK D.C. GROUP, and the event name has also been changed to "JACK IN THE BOX."
The reason why "JACK IN THE BOX" is "JACK IN THE BOX" is because of the "sessions." At the first event in 2007, HYDE (Vo.) of L’Arc~en~Ciel, TERU (Vo.) and TAKURO (Gt.) of GLAY performed a session. They performed "HONEY" and "YUUWAKU," both popular songs from the two bands, in the session, showing that JACK IN THE BOX is not just an ordinary festive event. In the following year 2008, Tetsu of L’Arc~en~Ciel, T.M. Revolution Nishikawa Takanori, INORAN of LUNA SEA, Miyavi, SHUSE (ex.La'cryma Christi), and Shiratori Yukinojou (Kishidan) performed ultra-magnificent sessions, overwhelming Budokan in a heated craze. At the end of that event, all the performers gathered onstage representing "MAVERICK D.C. GROUP." Their actions there showed the friendship amongst fellow artists, a side that is usually unseen by the audience, and gave a grand conclusion to the year.
On August 15, 2009, as the first "summer festival" for the same event, "JACK IN THE BOX 2009 SUMMER" was held at Makuhari Messe. Different from the end-of-year JACK event where sessions are featured, the summer event was held as a straight-ball rock festival with one guest artist playing after another. The line-up can only be described in one word – magnificent. Starting with VAMPS, Ken, SID, and DEAD END, who has finally awaken after almost 20 years of hibernation, cali≠gari, who has restarted their activities for a limited period of time from April 2009, KIYOHARU, who is well-known in all facets of the music scene, and BREAKERZ, all gathered at Makuhari and presented a dream-like day to the fans.
"JACK IN THE BOX" means "surprise box" in Japanese. Just as the name infers, this event is intended to present new moving moments, happiness, and discoveries, and has been confirmed to take place on December 27, 2009. The performing artists and the contents of the live have not yet been disclosed, but it would definitely be wrong to finish off 2009 without watching this event.
