Sometimes being a Justin Bieber lookalike isn’t a good thing as Robin Verrecas discovered when he was accused of posing as the singer in the recent pot-smoking photos.

Robin is an 18-year-old Belgian whose resemblance to the As Long As You Love Me singer garnered him a bit of fame, with 48,000 followers on Twitter to boast. He also has an active Instagram account where he posts photos of himself dressed up in Bieber-style outfits.

Now, Robin is getting more attention than he bargained for, and not in a good way. Some Beliebers are desperate to clear Justin’s name -- after their idol was caught smoking marijuana -- and they are using Robin as a scapegoat!

"That wasn't Justin smoking a joint, it was his lookalike, RobinVerrecas,” tweeted one of Justin's fans.

Robin denied vehemently. Responding on Twitter, he said: "the guy on that weed picture ISN'T me!! I SWEAR! @justinbieber please tell them the truth."

He also added: "i'm a belieber! so if it was me...why would i do this to justin? THINK!!?? i don't smoke."

Like other Beliebers, Robin also believe that it wasn't Justin in the photo posted by TMZ.

Photos of Justin Bieber smoking marijuana have surfaced on TMZ. This comes days after a paparazzo was killed trying to get a photo of the singer he suspected was smoking pot.

According to TMZ, the photos of Justin with marijuana in hand were taken on 2 January, a day after 29-year-old paparazzo Chris Guerra was struck down by a car on a Los Angeles highway.

Justin has taken to Twitter to speak to his legion of Beliebers after TMZ published these photos. "Everyday growing and learning. trying to get better. u get knocked down, u get up."

He continued: "i see all of u. i hear all of u. i never want to let any of you down. i love u. and...thank u. #beliebers. like i said...2013...new challenges. new doubters."

This is not the only controversy surrounding the young singer lately. Fresh reports have indicated that Justin and on-and-off girlfriend Selena Gomez have broken up yet again. Both parties are keeping mums about the state of their relationship.
