Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed a bindingdeal yesterday to buy Ford Motor Co.'s Volvo Cars unit for $1.8billion, representing a coup for the independent Chinese automaker,which is aiming to expand in Europe.
The stock-purchaseagreement is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to becompleted in the third quarter, reps of the two automakers said as theypresented the deal at a news conference at Volvo Cars headquarters inGoteborg, Sweden.
  The agreement was signed by Geely ChairmanLi ShufuandFord Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth, and witnessed by Li Yizhong,the Chinese minister of industry and information technology, as well asSwedish Minister for Enterprise and Energy Maud Olofsson.                                                
       
       
   
  The transaction will be made through a $200 million note, while the remainder will be paid out in cash.
  "We think it's a fair price for a good business, and yes, we're happy with the deal we've achieved with Geely," Booth said.
The deal also covers further agreements on intellectual propertyrights, supply and research and development arrangements among VolvoCars, Geely and Ford.
  Li, whose comments were translated by an interpreter, described the deal as "a milestone" for both Geely and Volvo.
  Ford, which bought Volvo Cars fromAB Volvoin1999 for $6.45 billion, has been trying to sell the unit since late2008. The 83-year-old automaker employs nearly 20,000 workers, most ofthem based in Sweden.

kalu aku, daripada dok sibuk nak re-badge kete mitsu, baik terus beli aje company ni. Mitsu ni dah lama ada masalah kewangan, akhir2nya kumpulan Peugeot/Citroen yg sapu

TOKYO- FRENCH carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen is in talks with MitsubishiMotors Corp. to buy a 30 to 50 per cent stake in Japan's No. 4automaker, a paper said Thursday.                                                   
The Nikkeibusiness daily said Peugeot Citroen will spend up to 300 billion yen(S$4.70 billion) to acquire the stake in Mitsubishi. The paper gave nosources.                                                     
Mitsubishi declined to confirm the report. 'There are no facts to be announced,' the Japanese company said in a statement.                                                   
Thepaper said Peugeot Citroen - Europe's second biggest car company - andMitsubishi are in the final stages of capital tie-up talks. The dealcould effectively put Mitsubishi under Peugeot Citroen's control.                                                   
The French carmaker may seek more than a 50 percent stake in Mitsubishi, the paper said.                                                    Thetwo companies already have collaborated, agreeing to launch an electriccar in Europe by the end of 2010. It will be based on Mitsubishi'si-MiEV, which was launched on the Japanese market in June. The two havealso agreed to set up an auto factory in Russia to make mid-sized sportutility vehicles. -- AP

walaupun aku tak pernah pakai volvo, tapi dari rakan2 yg pernah pakai kete ni, rata2 menyatakan volvo ni kete yg sedap dibawak. Malah ada pendapat yg lagi ekstrem menyatakan lebih best dari bawak BMW....aku no comment.

sekali tersentuh volvo, maka akan volvo selamanya selaras dgn tag line 'Volvo for Life'

aku ingat lagi  masa zaman aku kanak-kanak ribena dulu-dulu, volvo punye model antara kereta yg kuality bagus, tetapi murah. even kerje goment pun boleh mampu beli baru, rasanyer sampai model 240, lepas tuh volvo dah berubah, still a good car tapi jadi mahal (rasanyer start model 9xx)

so masa tuh saper yg dah terkene penangan volvo tapi tak mampu, terpaksa lah tunggu lambat sikit for 2nd hand car. value 2nd hand volvo mmg dari dulu dah rendah.

Sampai sekarang pon, volvo masih mampu dimiliki even utk orang keja gomen..S80 tahun 2002 baru RM50k, lebe kurang beli Pesona jugak harganya..tapi sekadar beli aje laa

Harus diingat, maintainance Volvo agak besar, sebab sparepart nya agak mahal..kalu setakat servis tu biasalaa abeh dalam RM400, cuma kalau barang terutama yang ada kena mengena dgn electronic..memang sangat mahal harganya..

Tang nie memang dia ada kat atas sikit banding BM dan Merz.
Tang servis dan part memang mahal dulu saya tukar aksober belakang sebatang rm700 tak tau lah kalau kena tipu.....

Itu memang benar harganya...kalo S40 model baru ni, absober depan sepasang dekat 3k jugak harganya..ni dari kata member aku yang pakai S40 tahun 2001 laa..

Pastu, kalu nak pakai Volvo kena check jugak tahun berapa keluarannya tu..sebab tak silap aku dalam awal tahun 2000-an ni..volvo ada tarik balik banyak modelnya sebab masalah pada gear box..serupa mcm masalah Protong Perdana laaa..rasanya ni bagi model S60 kalau tak silap aku.

Dgn Bolbo 740 nie memang saya guna lasak laaa... Pernah sumbat 10 set pc termasuk monitor ambik dr sekolah utk diselenggara.....

740 memang antara yang terbaek keluaran Bolbo..memang tahan lama...dan aku rasa dari model ni laa diaorg dapat jolokan "Bolbo for life"

la ni dia dah pakai masterpiece.. so dia cakap.. keta ni mmg hilang sakit kepala.. tak mcm bolbo..

hoho kalu merc memang kelebihannya parts senang nak cari dan harga lebe murah dari bolbo..tapi kalu nak cakap performance, aku rasa bolbo lagi sedap skit..cuma sustainability, aku lebih prefer merc laa..

Contoh macam pakai komputer laa..prosessor intel ngan AMD.. prosessor AMD lebih laju dari prosessor intel (pada mulanya) tapi intel lebih tahan lama sebab perfoemance AMD akan downgrade by time..

sama juga ngan konsep bolbo dan merc ni..

**apa aku melalut sampai pegi cerita prosessor nih??

Aku setuju....Beberapa model Merc memang lagi senang nak bela dan berbaloi dibeli.

dia kata camtu.. sebab dedua model tu.. umo lebih kurang je.. bolbo dia thn 91.. merz dia tahun 93.. mungkin time tu... merz agak kedepan..

tp buat masa skang.. aku rasa volvo dah lebih advance drpd mercedes..

tp tu lah.. tang part tu tak tahan.. nak pakai boleh.. nak bela.... kena poket tebai berganda2 drpd owner2 merz..
kalo rasa mercedes mahal nak menten.. better avoid volvo.. kalo tgk mercedes mentenen murah.. then go for volvo..
