and one gud step juga laa sbb mungkin jd salah satu cara, bile kite dah jaga kucing tu sndiri smpai sihat, mgkin terus jatuh sayang tuk adopt je |

SPCA Friday Flash
EVER WONDERED WHAT SPCA REALLY DOES?
1. PET ADOPTION CENTRE & TEMPORARY SHELTER
for abandoned and abused animals. SPCA receives close to 7,000 animals per annum and re-homes more than 1,500 spayed/ neutered dogs and cats each year. We provide an ambulance pick-up service for injured animals. Pet owners are also advised to be responsible and to sterilize their pets, and not to dump them.
2. SPAY / NEUTER CLINIC: KLINIK KEMBIRI
is a highly-successful high-volume, low-cost spay/ neuter clinic set up by SPCAin collaboration with DBKL. About 2,000 animals are neutered every year, preventing the births of an estimated 20 million animals since 2003.
3. INSPECTORATE / ANIMAL CRUELTY LAW ENFORCEMENT
SPCA inspects and monitors complaints of cruelty to animals from the public, receiving approximately 70 cases every month. We work closely with enforcement officers from the Department of Veterinary Services to assist in preventing cruelty and prosecuting cases.
.
4. GOVERNMENT LOBBYING
SPCA meets regularly with the DVS to lobby for effective legislation, building more Klinik Kembiris and humane management of Municipal Pounds. Important regional issues such as Stray Control, Animal Cruelty & important Humane Guidelines are just some of the areas SPCA takes extra steps with, in efforts to improve the overall welfare for the animals in our country.
5. EDUCATION & AWARENESS
Thousands of school children visit SPCA every year. Our Humane Education Program aims to create awareness, empower and motivate people to be agents of change to improve animal welfare in their communities. Visiting students are given a presentation, education packs and a tour of the shelter. They also can help to clean cages and feed, walk, bathe and socialize the animals. SPCA also actively goes out for outreach work in schools, pet events and shopping centres.
6. MissionHELP: HELPING PEOPLE HELP ANIMALS
With this project, our organisation is working to improve the lives of animals beyond our reach through dedicated animal rescuers - individuals and groups - to promote better welfare for homeless animals. SPCA provides highly or fully subsidised food, vaccination and spay/neuter costs for Good Samaritans who are caring for stray animals in their communities.

The most elaborate courtship displays are those of the bowerbird.
These resourceful birds have unusually large brains, and
the males of the species build complex structures - bowers -
to impress the females. Some bowerbirds use twigs and shiny
objects like shells and beetles to decorate the large shed-like
constructions. Others fill their nests with objects that are exclusively
blue in order to attract females. Bowerbirds have been known to
steal blue pens, blue bits of jewelery and beads to make their
home seem more attractive to the opposite sex.
Some psychologists argue their skills are worthy of comparison with human art.
Our Wish List includes: Old clothing, electrical items, household decorations,
books, toys, paintings and home products. Pet products are welcome too!

In an alleged attempt to control rabies, inhumane practices of dog culling are currently still in progress in Kerala, India.
Rabies is a major concern in India, but culling is a most ineffective and usually extremely cruel practice. Instead of
ensuring progression, indiscriminate culls can trigger even more
rabies outbreaks by disrupting stable dog populations. The World Health Organization (WHO) also strongly advocates mass vaccinations of dogs, not killing them. Killing never helps nor solves.
India's legislation exists but is being ignored by Kerala, a tourist If you would like to help, write a letter to the Kerala Government or to the Indian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Show them that you know about this, and that the world is watching them.

INTERESTING FACT OF THE DAY!
The elk is probably the worst drunk in the animal kingdom.
In Sweden, in particular, elk gorge themselves on aged apples,
not realizing the apples have fermented.
As a result they often end up in an aggressive, drunken stupor.
Elk have been known to charge joggers.
In 2006, a drunken party of elk surrounded an old people's home
near Malm鯷/b] and had to be removed by armed police.
Inebriated elk also terrorizes schools and attack strangers.
CRUELTY AT OUR DOORSTEP:
IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS
Is this where your puppy came from?
In August 2007, SPCA received reports of loud consistent barking
from neighbors of a nearby shophouse in Kajang. Upon inspection,
we discovered over 100 purebred dogs kept in unhealthy and inhumane
condition - all lived in inappropriately small and rusted cages.
The dogs were absolutely miserable - never once with human love or contact
except during feeding time.
These Jack Russells, Shih Tzus & Poodles were in an illegal breeding
facility, also known as a puppy mill.
Since the report was made, SPCA has worked with the
Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to help improve the living conditions
of these dogs. On every visit, SPCA's Animal Inspector was refused
entry into the facility, increasing suspicion of the irresponsible owner
and breeder's actions and legality.
Not much has changed for these dogs' lives since our last update last month.
SPCA and DVS continue to investigate and monitor the activities of this particular breeder.
We hope that the mental and physical health of animals kept in such conditions
be taken into serious consideration, with the introduction of strict
guidelines for breeders to put an end to this cruelty and negligence.
Puppy mills and keeping dogs in tiny cages is unsuitable and inhumane.
This should no longer be acceptable and tolerated
by the government and Malaysian animal lovers.
If you intend to buy a purebred cat or dog, please be wary of
irresponsible breeders. Do not support pet stores or businesses
that exploit animals, display them in glass tanks, and neglect
their welfare.

and humane guidelines for cage requirements!
Calling all fashion revivalists, bargain hunters, nostalgic souls and animal lovers! Treasures are to be found this weekend!

these are some points i guna masa tulis to the star newspaper:
1) with more than 100,000 animals euthanized annually in malaysia, it is evident that we ALL NEED TO ADOPT from our local shelters to save lives. do not contribute to the worldwide pet overpopulation!
2) most animal mills (not all) send sick animals (due to cramped and unhealthy living conditions) to be sold for top prices and unknowing consumers get carried away by the antics of a little, fluffy cutie without really knowing where their new family member came from - inbreeding (the mating of closely related members of a species, especially over many generations producing animals with a lot of undesirable genetic defects) which also runs rampant in these mills!
3) these animals at the mills are given little affection and minimal contact with humans, so socialization (very important at that age) is often absent.
4) if you REALLY want to buy a pet - go VISIT a reputable breeder and see the parents and all the littermates you wish to devote 10-15 years of life. however, for every pet you buy, about 10 - 15 will be put down (euthanized) in animal shelters.
nanti kalau ingat, i tambah lagi ....

STOP BUYING FROM PET STORES AND ADOPT FROM ANIMAL SHELTERS
Kitty/puppy mills (a place where pets are bred for sale) are large-scale animal-breeding facilities that operate under sub-standard breeding conditions, causing the development of chronic health problems, temperament issues, and hereditary defects in animals that come from the mills.
These mills send sick animals (due to cramped and unhealthy living conditions) to be sold for top prices and unknowing consumers get carried away by the antics of a little, fluffy cutie without really knowing where their new family member came from |

DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING:
SPCA TAKES AN EXTRA STEP!
SPCA proves that an old dog learning new tricks is completely possible!
SPCA Staff has begun their basic obedience dog training course last Tuesday!
Trained by Mohd Badri Mokhtar of K9 Pets Dog Training School,
4 SPCA Staff Members with 4 selected SPCA dogs are undergoing a 10-week course

SPCA NEWS UPDATE!
MissionHELP: SEREMBAN
SUPER SALVATION!
SPCA MissionHELP & Inspectorate Teams Help 2 Samaritans in Seremban
Last week on June 4th, SPCA's Animal Inspector Cunera Kimlon & Assistant Mr Murugan,
as well as SPCA's vet Dr Lim Suit Fun with our Education Officer Pris Hendricks
responded to a call for help from Mr Ng Her Sun,
an unfortunate man with a solid loving heart who takes care
of over 30 mangy dogs in a vacant land near his home!
Upon investigation, it was found that not only was Mr Ng taking care of the 30+ mangy
dogs, but also 4 puppies and 5 mangy dogs in his own home. Living a menial life in poor home,
SPCA has offered to improve the skin condition all the dogs as well as neuter all the bitches to curb further reproduction.
The 4 puppies were taken back to Kuala Lumpur and are now all being fostered together.
On a separate case in Seremban, SPCA Selangor visited SPCA Seremban and visited an Animal Shelter
run by Good Samaritan Mr Shankar.
Mr Ratnam, in charge of SPCA Seremban,
followed us on our Inspection where more than 35 dogs were well kept and taken care of.
Unneutered females were caged while the rest were free-running on the Shelter compound.
SPCA Selangor offered to neuter these females, while 5 bags of dog food were given to SPCA Seremban to ration
between Mr Shankar's Shelter and Mr Ng's dogs.
The SPCA's Mission HELP project rescues and cares for strays, sickly and abused animals before seeking homes for them,
and helps people help stray animals.
Under the programme, we aim to help people who feed strays by subsidizing neutering costs, and providing guidance and
support to informal rescue groups or individuals. Its ultimate aim is to find a home for every animal.
For more information about this and more of what we can do to help the huge amount of strays in our community,
please contact our Front Desk at 03-42565312
or call the Klinik Kembiri at 03-40243446 (office) or their Manager Mr. Krishnan at 012-2581041.
If you are interested in saving more lives' through the fostering of puppies or kittens,

Macaque Management:
SPCA Selangor & SPCA Hong Kong Join Forces
Macaques constitutes a genus of Old World Monkeys, and are the most widespread breed
of monkeys that live amongst us today. Several species of macaque are used
extensively in animal testing.
In the late 90's, it was discovered that nearly all (circa 90%) pet or captive macaques carry the herpes-B virus.
This virus is harmless to macaques, but infections of humans, while rare, are potentially fatal.
Urban monkeys today present many problems to our society. It is common to find them creating a nuisance
by entering and messing up our homes and gardens, attacking people who attempt to befriend them,
and most importantly, spreading unwanted diseases.
This week, SPCA Selangor invited Dr Karthi Krishnasamy from SPCA Hong Kong to speak to us and provide detailed accounts
on macaque management. Dr Karthi, a veterinarian heavily involved in macaque issues,
discussed the importance in humane macaque management and solutions such as
translocation, sterilization of monkeys through spaying methods of vasectomy and tube ligation.
If you find monkeys a problem in your area, please do not attempt to touch or communicate with them.
Do not feed them as this will encourage their return. Keep your trashcan lids shut tight,
and consider planting fruit trees in jungles instead of your home compound.
If our society works together to ensure these monkeys no longer need to be captured,
we will also be helping in ensuring our Government does not take steps to export them
for experimentation.
Help us help them!
