The STORYThe story is simple, but interesting:
 Dang Ja (Shin Eun Kyung), a young thirtysomething fashion editor and happy single, starts to feel the desire to raise her own child, but doesn抰 want to have to get married first. We see gradually that Dang Ja has an ingrained distrust of the institution of marriage, since her father left her and her mother for another woman when she was young, and as he was leaving, told her apologetically not to grow up and marry a bad man like himself.
Dang Ja抯 two close friends include the na飗e and somewhat conservative Han Young, who抯 married to a cheating plastic surgeon and is just about to find out (about the cheating, that is). She抯 a stay-at-home wife and mother to a young boy, and lives in cushy comfort. Their third friend, Dol Soon, is also a housewife but the cool kind, still fun and sassy, raising an 8-year-old daughter Yeon Doo.

Dang Ja抯 biological clock comes ticking in full force when she babysits Yeon Doo and imagines it would be nice having a daughter to raise. Here抯 one of my favorite scenes from episode 1, where she fights over pizza with the little girl:

EPISODES 3 & 4 Dang Ja, stuck on the island overnight with Gi Chan, is about to succeed in seducing Gi Chan when a wild boar interrupts. Dang Ja, overmotivated by the need to defeat the pig and get her groove on, fends off the animal with the help of Gi Chan. However, she exerts herself too much and winds up exhausted, while Gi Chan marvels at her bravery.

A few days later, Gi Chan calls Dang Ja and invites her to go with him to some gardens. Dang Ja sees this as a chance to make another move, and this takes us back to the sequence that kicked off Episode 1, where she pretends to feel ill near a hotel, forcing them to stop and rest. This time, she succeeds in luring him to bed, and we can trust those Koreans to even make sperm look cute.
 
Dang Ja抯 ecstatic when pregnancy test results turn out positive, and figures she can now cleanly cut ties with Gi Chan. However, Gi Chan抯 been feeling guilty; he sends her flowers and says he wants to take responsibility for his actions. Dang Ja acts as though it was nothing |

Gi Chan drops by to see Dang Ja, with the happy intention to keep seeing her. She, on the other hand, wants to end it, and does her best to repel him by eating sloppily and without manners. Dang Ja tries a stronger repellant, telling him she just seduced him because she was curious about what a man like him was like, but frankly she was a little disappointed. In the sex. Ouch.

TOUCHING and PERCEPTIVE
In an effort to cut things off with Gi Chan, Dang Ja tries to convince him that she抯 a difficult woman and repel him with her extravagance. When he offers to buy her a gift, she takes him on a shopping spree, batting her eyes prettily and asking for ludicrously expensive clothing, jewelry, accessories. (I estimate the excursion cost Gi Chan approximately $10,000.)
 
But despite it, he buys them without complaint. Afterward, sitting in a restaurant, Gi Chan asks her why she抯 doing this. Startled, Dang Ja tries to explain this is how she always is, but Gi Chan knows better |

TREE LOVEDol Soon is so incredibly curious over meeting Gi Chan that she threatens Dang Ja that she抣l go looking for himself if Dang Ja doesn抰 introduce them. So they go out for drinks together, where Dol Soon asks Gi Chan what he likes about Dang Ja. He answers that she has a lot of thorns, which suggest there抯 something there underneath them. At first not impressed with the answer, Dang Ja warms up as he explains that there are plants with lots of thorns, but the flesh underneath them is very tender. He can tell that she抯 a tender person. He抣l take care of her from now on.
After Gi Chan is thorougly tipsy, Dol Soon notices him tending to the tree in the bar (while the song 揕emon Tree |
