"Gedo Senki" will be screened in its original format instead of having dubs when it is to be screened in South Korea from 10 Aug. This is because the movie's lead voiced by Okada Junichi enjoys a high popularity there and the fans wish to hear his voice instead of having dubs. Thus, this marks one of the rare instances where a Japanese movie will be screened in its original track with Korean subtitles.

V6's Okada Junichi will be making his debut as a seiyuu (voice actor) in the new Ghibli anime movie, "Gedo Senki" and play the young prince Alan who tries to solve the mystery of strange happenings in the world with a philosopher Gedo played by Sugahara Bunta. The decision to choose Okada was made by the producer Suzuki Toshio who was a guest of Okada's radio show on J-WAVE last July. Suzuki was impressed with Okada's enthusiasm when conducting the interview as he tried to find out what he was interested in instead of following the script. As such, he thought that it would be a good idea to get Okada to play this role.

Eric Moon Raps for SMAP's New Album
Eric Moon, a member of the male band Shinwha, has participated in the recording of a new album from the popular Japanese group SMAP.
Moon wrote and performed a rap for the solo song "Tokyo" from the group's album entitled "Pop Up! SMAP," which is due for release on July 26. Moon recorded the song, a remake of an old Japanese hit song, on July 11 in a Gangnam studio in Seoul.
Shinwha and SMAP have been friends for a long time. Another Shinwha member, Lee Min-woo, wrote the song "Heaven" for SMAP's 16th album, which was released in July last year, while Shin Hye-sung performed a duo with a SMAP member. Moon has become the first member of Shinhwa to participate in a SMAP recording alone.
"I'm happy to be part of SMAP's new album because I really like it. I hope their new album and the new album from Shinwha entitled "Inspiration," which will be released in Japan August 16, will be popular among listeners," said Moon.
Moon has also recently renewed his six-month contract with the CJ brand "Spam." The brand has become popular in Japan since its TV commercial went on the air in Japan in April, which largely stems from Shinwha's activities in Japan and Moon's popularity for his role in the TV drama "Rookie." Japan's BS Fuji has been airing the drama "Firebird," which also stars Moon, since July 19.
Shinwha will give concerts in Thailand on August 19, Tokyo on September 24 and Osaka on September 26 as part of its 2006 tour entitled "State Of The Art."

"Otoshimono" starring Sawajiri Erika (who shot to stardom with the drama One Litre of Tears), Oguri Shun and Wakatsuki Chinatsu will be shown 2 months earlier in South Korea on 27 July as compared to its Japan screening on 30 Sep. As Sawajiri has a strong following in South Korea due to her movie, "Pacchigi" which was well-received there, the decision was made to screen this horror movie at 100 cinemas before the Japanese audience gets to see it. This also makes it the first Japanese movie to be screened overseas well before being released in the domestic market.

Kanno Miho and V6's Okada Junichi were at South Korea for the filming of their drama SP, "Niji wo Kakeru Ouhi" whereby the trip almost did not materialise due to problems between Japan and South Korea. It took 2 months for the producer Nakajima Kumiko to persuade the Ministry of Culture in South Korea to allow them to do the filming on location.
The narration of this drama will be done by Mori Mitsuko.

Kanno Miho and Okada Junichi will be playing a married couple in the FujiTV drama SP, "Niji wo Kakeru Ouhi" (The crown princess who set up the bridge of rainbow) in the story based on the last crown prince and crown princess in North Korea's imperial history. The couple married in 1920 at a time when Japan and North Korea relations were at a standstill and it was regarded as a political marriage at that time. Okada plays the 26th prince in North Korea's Lee Dynasty, Lee Gin while Kanno plays the eldest daughter in the ex-imperial family, Nashimoto Masako. Both of them will have to speak the Korean language in this drama and filming will also be done in South Korea. The OA date of this SP has not been decided. |

J-Pop Group Arashi Promises to Charm Korean Fans
By Cathy Rose A. Garcia
Staff Reporter

While K-pop stars are catching the eye of Japanese fans, now it's the turn of Japanese pop stars to grab the attention of Korean fans.
Around 1,500 Korean fans crowded the arrival lobby of Incheon International Airport just to catch a glimpse of Japanese pop group Arashi.
Arashi, composed of Sakurai Sho, Ninomiya Kazunari, Matsumoto Jun, Ohno Satoshi and Aiba Masaki, only stayed for a few hours to hold their first press conference in Korea, Monday evening.
The five-member group will headline the "2006 Asia Song Festival," to be held on Sept. 22 in Kwangju. This is part of the group's first Asian tour, which will also take them to Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Despite the language barrier, Ninomiya said the group is excited to give a great performance for Korean fans in September.
"We want to have much fun at the Asia Song Festival. I cannot speak Korean, but I want to speak to Korean fans through our music," Ninomiya said.
Arashi members appeared surprised at the wild reception they received from the Korean fans, who were screaming, chanting their name and singing their songs.
"I got many mails from Korean fans. This is my first time to visit Korea. I'm so glad that many fans are giving us a warm welcome and singing our songs,'' Jun said.
Jun, who is most popular for his roles in Japanese dramas such as "Gokusen'' (Gangster Teacher) and "Hana Yori Dango'' (Boys Over Flowers), said he would love to star in a Korean drama in the future. "I have seen Winter Sonata on DVD. It is very famous and still on TV. I'd love to be in Korean drama if any production would ask," he said.
While looking tired from their plane trip, Arashi members showed their funny side when Sakurai and Ninomiya jokingly protested after noticing most of the questions were directed at Jun.
Sakurai, who once went to Korea for a college graduation trip, spoke a few words of Korean, impressing the media. He even admitted his mother is a big fan of actor Bae Yong-joon, who is fondly called "Yon-sama" in Japan.
Incheon was the third and last stop of the "Jet storm" series of Arashi's press conferences. The group flew to Bangkok, Thailand, Taipei, Taiwan and Incheon on a rented 13-seater personal jet, to hold press conferences in one day.
Their 6th album "Arashic" was only released in Korea last July 20, but it has already sold 10,000 copies.
Arashi, which is the Japanese word for storm, made their debut in 1999. The group's good looks, catchy songs and powerful dance moves have attracted many fans in Japan, and rest of Asia.
