IPOH: No semen traces were found on the clothing, mop and mattress sent for analysis to the Chemistry Department, the High Court heard during the rape trial of Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong.
The department’s DNA Forensic Division director Nor Aidora Saedon said an acid phosphatase (AP) test was conducted to determine if there was any presence of semen on the T-shirt, pants and underwear submitted for testing.
“The AP test is used to know for sure if stains are indeed semen. However, when the test was carried out, no semen was found on the exhibits,” she said on Monday (Aug 16) when replying to deputy public prosecutor Azalina Rashdi.
Asked if it was sufficient to test samples on-site using the Polilight, a forensic tool that can detect fingerprints, bodily fluids and other evidence not visible to the naked eye, Nor Aidora said the process was just a form of screening and not an analysis.
“The Journal of Forensic Science 2006 has stated that the Polilight effect can give up to 50% false positive readings, so other tests need to be carried out as confirmation. In this case, since no semen was found on the exhibits, DNA analysis was not carried out,” she added.
Azalina had also asked Nor Aidora why DNA was not traced on a hair sample submitted as an exhibit.
Nor Aidora said this could be due to several factors, including degradation of the hair root where DNA is found by high temperature or humidity, among others.
“Thus the DNA profiling (of the hair) was weak or not conclusive enough to make a comparison,” she added.
Asked by lead counsel Datuk Rajpal Singh if a similar colour would be seen under Polilight for blood, urine or tea stains as well as semen, Nor Aidora agreed.
She said, however, that stains such as urine, blood or tea could also be seen with the naked eye, unlike semen stains.
“Urine stains will (appear) yellowish, tea stains brownish, and blood stains reddish," she added.
On Aug 23, 2019, Yong claimed trial at the Ipoh Sessions Court to raping his then 23-year-old maid.
The offence was allegedly committed in a room on the top floor of his house in Meru Desa Park between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on July 7 of that year.

biar betul... semen stains pun quite visible to naked eye..
in term of color mungkin tak obvious sangat.
tapi bila kena pada cadar or kain, akan ada tompok putih & berkedut dekat situ. |
