salam and gud day all..

hari nie eva nak paste tempat kat Scotland bernama Braemar, kawasan ini adalah kawasan percutian keluarga di Raja Britain dan di sini adalah lokasi tradisi Scottish known as 'Highland Games'. Eva sendiri pon tak pernah pergi lagi but i would like to share some info dan pic about this area

information about Braemar

Braemar, or Braigh Mharr in Gaelic (which finally died out locally as a spoken language about 1900), is not only redolent with Scottish history, but is a land of superlatives. It is the highest and most mountainous parish in the UK, with each of its 182,000 acres being more than 1000ft above sea level (the Post office, in the village centre, is at 1110ft).

The area contains within its borders some 24 Munros, or mountains of over 3,000ft, with three over 4,000ft. It is also the only parish in the country to border with four of the old counties (Banffshire, Inverness-shire, Perthshire and Angus). It has the highest 18-hole golf course in the country, and shares with Perthshire the Cairnwell Pass, at 2,100ft the highest through road in the country, which on the Braemar side passes through the Glenshee Ski Centre.

Devotees of Highland Games can, in September, accompany Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to the great Braemar Gathering, reputedlyfounded in the 11th Century by Malcolm Canmore, used as a front in 1715 by the Earl of Mar to plan the first Jacobite Uprising, and which has been run in its present form since 1832 by Braemar Royal Highland Society, the oldest surviving Friendly Society in Scotland. It also sponsors the village Highland Dancing Class, with weekly evening displays in summer, along with regular Sunday afternoon Pipe Band displays in July and August.

For those who, like Queen Victoria, seek only to relax, Braemar's broad acres and more than adequate variety of accommodation offer an unrivalled opportunity to do so in the peace and beauty of Aberdeenshire's Highland Parish.

Brief history about Braemar

The parish of Braemar and Crathie has been a playground of kings, nobles and the great ones of the land since the dawn of Scottish history.
This brief history of Braemar introduces the key events and people for the 8th century King of the Picts to the 19th century and Queen Victoria's chosen holiday destination.

Braemar

(42 miles from Dryburn)
Braemar is a village in Upper Deeside popular with visitors and famous for the Braemar Gathering, held on the first Saturday of September of each year.  Members of the British Royal Family usually attend.  Queen Victoria attended Highland Games here as early as 1850, when they were held in the grounds of Braemar Castle (open to visitors).  Braemar is an excellent walking centre and offers a full range of outdoor activities, as well as the highest golf course in the UK.  Robert Louis Stevenson wrote most of Treasure Island here.

Highland Games Gathering

The origins of the Braemar Gathering are believed to have been in the 11th Century, when King Malcolm Canmore (King Malcolm the Great Chief) visited Braemar. We know for certain that it was customary since medieval days for Clan Chiefs to gather their followers together in the autumn, when the deer were fat, for a hunt lasting for several days. During that time there would be competitions to select the strongest, the fleetest, and the most skilful warriors. Hundreds of tinchel (beaters) would be employed, and the deer killed by dirks or deerhounds. It was quite common for men also to be killed during this gory climax. In the evenings, sennachies (storytellers) would vie with each other, and pipers would display their skill on the great Highland bagpipe. The host Chief and his guests would watch and listen from the comfort of a rustic bower or lunquard, built specially for the occasion, and decorated with heather, fir boughs and rowan berries.............

.........There are now 66 events, the prize money totals over
