SFC CLARIFIES RELEASE OF BIG LIMBANG CROC
KUCHING, 6 SEPTEMBER 2017 – Due to numerous enquiries received on the rationale for the release of the 16-foot crocodile back to the Limbang River as widely reported on 4 September 2017, SARAWAK FORESTRY Corporation (SFC) has issued a press statement on the matter.
“The decision to release the captured croc was partially based on the fact that there had been no prior complaint of any menace or threat posed by the presence of crocodiles in the area concerned.
Also considered was the fact that a survey carried out in May this year had shown that for the stretch of the Limbang River from the river mouth to Limbang town, the croc population density was about 1 reptile per km, no where near the level where culling might be deemed necessary.”
According to the statement, SFC will continue to closely monitor the croc situation in the area concerned. The corporation will also install more warning signages where crocs are most often seen; these include Jetty Tamu Limbang, Medamit, Kpg Lubuk Piasau and Kubong
