Liverpool link a 'joy' for Colombian striker

Jackson Martinez admits he is flattered to be linked with a move to Liverpool, although he is committed to honouring his contract with Jaguares.

The 25-year-old Colombian has scored five times in 10 games for his country, and continues to impress in the Mexican Primera División with his current employers.

It was reported on Saturday that Liverpool had opened talks with Jaguares, with the hope of bringing Martinez to Anfield during the transfer window.

And Martinez is honoured to hear of the interest from Kenny Dalglish, although is not getting distracted by a potential move to Liverpool.

"For me it is a joy whenever I see news about teams interested in me, but for now I have a contract with Jaguares," he said.

"Things have their time and I've always said, since I got here, that I'll only leave when there was a clear opportunity to do so.

"Therefore, only God knows when I leave."

cerita freesh lagi... TRANSFER WINDOW: De Jong agents reckons Liverpool are ‘watching’ FC Twente striker

Luuk De Jong’s agent has admitted that Liverpool are “watching” his client but believes that a January move is unlikely as FC Twente do not want to sell.

Sportsbyte reported last week that Kenny Dalglish was an admirer of the 21-year old Dutch international striker who has scored 10 goals in 17 appearances for Twente in the Eredivisie this season.

Now De Jong’s agent, Louis Laros, has confirmed that both Liverpool and Newcastle are watching his client.

Laros told IB Times UK: “I know they [Liverpool and Newcastle] are watching him but I have had no direct contact with both clubs over a possible transfer.”

Although Laros stated that no contact has been made and that any possible deal is not likely to be completed until the Summer.

He added: ”I haven’t received a phone call from Liverpool or Newcastle that they are completely interested in Luuk de Jong. For this moment, I think it is just a rumour.

“I don’t think a transfer is possible because I don’t think FC Twente will let him leave in the winter transfer period.

“If there is a possible transfer then I think it is at the end of the season.”

De Jong would cost a reported £10million and the striker recently admitted that a move to the Premier League would appeal to him.

He told Fifa.com: “I’m still very happy playing for FC Twente, but every player has dreams.

“Mine is to play in a nice foreign competition one day and the Premier League is a really nice competition.”

NEWCASTLE UNITED are still very much on the trail of Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha.

However, they may have to wait until the Eagles’ Carling Cup exploits are over until they land their man – meaning a summer move could be on the cards.

Talk that Newcastle are back in for Paris St Germain’s Turkey international Mevlut Erding is accurate after a flying visit to Paris by Toon officials

But the January move for the 24-year-old is just one of several deals Newcastle are looking into.

United ran the rule over Zaha again last night with the winger-cum-striker in action against Cardiff City in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final.

And with Palace – 1-0 winners on the night – still in with a fantastic chance of reaching the February 26 showpiece at Wembley, it means the Tynesiders may have to sit tight until the summer window to land the 19-year-old attacker.

Palace would earn a huge cash boost by reaching Wembley to face Manchester City or Liverpool and with the club still recovering from administration two years ago, Zaha’s presence will be vital.

The Chronicle were first to report the Magpies’ interest in Zaha back on October 11 and while the player only recently signed a five-year deal with the Eagles, it was a move to protect their own asset.

However, the ambitious youngster still dreams of a move to the top flight and even though Liverpool are on his long list of admirers, sources close to the Ivory Coast-born star have indicated he likes the idea of pulling on a Toon shirt.

Zaha would command a hefty transfer fee but Newcastle will have cleared some of their wage bill by next summer.

And they are planning for the future and getting on with their blueprint of signing young starlets and giving them the stage to develop.

High earner Alan Smith is on his way out of the club.

While United will look to offload £50,000 per week Spaniard Xisco, currently on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, by trying to tempt the Riazor outfit into making the move permanent.

Newcastle officials have been in France in the last few days to discuss moves for a clutch of potential transfer targets across the English Channel.

A party of United’s top brass met agents in Paris to begin negotiations on new signings, with sources close to Newcastle confirming they have a hit list of “four or five” players they are keen on.

However, it is believed that the Magpies are hopeful of bringing in two new faces before the transfer window closes.

One of those is the unsettled Erding, with the Chronicle reporting last night how he was back on the radar and open to a move to St James’ Park.

Pardew’s priority in the window remains a defender – but the Magpies boss was back on Tyneside yesterday to run the rule over Bognor Regis striker Jason Prior, currently on trial at the club.

LIVERPOOL'S JANUARY TRANSFER PLANS: BENT, CAVANI, MONTOLIVO AND MORE

The big spending by Liverpool last January could happen again this year as Suarez's ban, injuries and Andy Carroll continue to haunt Kenny Dalglish's big plans for the season. With the surprise exit of Fernando Torres in 2011, Dalglish went out and bought £35million Newcastle striker Carroll and the brilliant Luis Suarez, who now has a potential eight-match ban ahead of him. At time of writing the Anfield club have the worst conversion rate from attempts created in the entire league. With their top striker out, Carroll lacking form and a season-ending injury to star defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva, Kenny Dalglish may have to dip in to the club's pockets this transfer window if the Reds are to have a successful season. Here, talkSPORT takes a look at where Liverpool could be spending their money in January…

WHERE THEY NEED TO STRENGTHEN

STRIKERS: Luis Suarez's ban from the FA could severely dent Liverpool's Champions League qualification hopes. The Uruguayan has been the Reds main goal threat this season and is their top scorer with just five league goals at time of writing. No other Liverpool player has scored more than twice this season and with just 21 goals this whole term before the Newcastle match, a prolific striker is the most important thing on Dalglish's shopping list.

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER: An unfortunate injury to Lucas Leiva meant Liverpool had to recall Jonjo Shelvey from his loan spell with Blackpool, when regular fill-in Jay Spearing received a three-match ban. It's not a crucial buy, but if a good alternative to Lucas came up at a decent price, it would be well worth Dalglish strengthening in this position.

TRANSFER TARGETS:
It's been reported that Liverpool are planning to make a sensational swoop for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent. The England forward moved to Villa a year ago in a deal worth £24million, but now rumours the formerSunderland player is unhappy under new manager Alex Mcleish, have alerted Liverpool to a possible deal this month.

Lucas' replacement could be Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo. The deep-lying playmaker has been impressive in Serie A this season, proving himself composed on the ball, sound with his distribution and a tireless ball winner. Playing alongside Daniel De Rossi in the Italian national side, Montolivo could play alongside Lucas when he returns from injury.

Other transfer targets that have been spoken about include Newcastle's Cheik Tiote, Swansea's Joe Allen, FC Twente's dynamic midfielder Leroy Fer and Porto's Fernando, but the canny Kenny Dalglish refuses to give anything away as he plots his next moves in the market.

DREAM SIGNING:
Napoli hit man Edinson Cavani showed his talent when he destroyed Manchester City in the Champions League this year and would arguably make one of the most mouth-watering strike partnerships in Premier League history if he linked up with Uruguayan team-mate Luis Suarez. Cavani is likely to have a price tag over £50million as City manager Roberto Mancini has already expressed his interest in the athletic forward, who has scored nine goals in Serie A this season. Liverpool have spent big recently, but we doubt FSG have the money to tempt Napoli.

NEED TO GET RID OF: Alberto Aquilani, Danny Wilson (on loan)

BUDGET: Liverpool might not be selling any big names to fund moves in January, but the club's owner John W Henry has supported Kenny Dalglish with big-money signings in the last two transfer windows and with the fans desperate for Champions League football next year, don't rule out the Americans backing their Scottish manager's judgement with money.
