DESPITE the relatively eventless protest by certain quarters outside the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil where Adam Lambert was to perform, it was a brilliant aural fest.

The protestors, who objected to the entertainer's sexuality, could not seem to dampen the spirit of the more than 15,000 fans feted to the talent from the Idol alumni. The leaflets and lectures demonising the concert didn't stop the stream of excited Adam enthusiasts lining up to fill the national stadium, waiting patiently for the star to appear.

And when the piped-in music slowed down and the lights went off, the crowd roared. The majority female audience let out piercing screams before Adam appeared with Voodoo to kick-off the show.

Costumes and make-up borrowed from glam aliens of Planet Fierce where Adam probably resides, in all truth paled in comparison to Adam's top-notch vocals which undoubtedly made for one of the best live experiences ever in a concert held in Malaysia this far.

Pitch perfect delivery spanning the full spectrum of the range of the human voice, Adam was a sight to behold, decked out as a modern day Fagin cum Mad Hatter meets witch doctor. Glammed up, of course.

Wearing a glittery top hat with feathers, tails with dripping fringes and fur epaulets, he was almost luminous with his vampire-pale complexion with bruised, heavily guyliner-decked eyes.

The excess of sparkles were brought on by glitter everywhere, down to his encrusted gloves and shirt. Heck, even his microphone and ear-piece were bejewelled.

If the crowd went delirious then as his dancers writhed and twisted in outfits that had mixed influences anywhere from tribal to pure S&M inspired, there were no words to describe how ballistic the crowd went when he continued with For Your Entertainment.

The audience was raucous and the energy level hit a maximum in Stadium Putra from the very front row of the pit, all the way to the back of the highest nosebleed seats.

Down The Rabbit Hole was the next song up. And it was evident at this point that Adam was out to woo his fans first and foremost. After all, the song was a bonus track that came with iTunes pre-orders of his For Your Entertainment album (and the locally available tour edition) as is Voodoo.

Some music journalists appeared bored as they appeared unfamiliar to the material and spent time speculating is he was lip-syncing or singing on top of pre-recorded vocal tracks simply because Adam did sound flawless.
Also because, from the first five songs that made up the first segment of the show, For Your Entertainment was the only track off the original release of the album.

Comments on the rather small staging and how it was more reminiscent of an excessive drag show rather than a concert were exchanged. While many would dismiss Adam as pop fluff trying to bring on a harder edge with his brand of electronica and rock inspired tunes, the man does bring it as real as you could possibly imagine.
His rendition of Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire was sizzling as it was when Adam first performed it on American Idol.

Fever, written by Lady Gaga closed the first 'act' of the show constructed to be theatrical - close to Adam's past experience. After a breather, and a costume change, of which was overlooked despite the time taken with a musical interlude of sorts, it was time to slow things down.

Stripped, and away from all the smoke and mirrors, Adam proved to be a consummate singer and it showed when everyone quieted down for Sleepwalker. Next up was his debut hit Whataya Want from Me. It was unexpected and served up the truth of Adam's artistry, with an exhibition of his ability to completely reinterpret
his own tunes for the live experience. The song is prime example of how Adam takes a risk with a new take of what is a fresh hit, and yes, it pays off.

The romantic, and rather melancholic Soaked followed, as did Aftermath - both sparse in arrangement that benefitted with Adam sounding bigger - almost angelic, pained and wounded.

And then it was time to party again with Adam firing salvo after salvo with Surefire, Strut, Music Again, before doing the impossible of turning the volume up on If I Had You that had the whole stadium on their feet.

In between most songs, Adam cast some pearls of wisdom, including how, "you can have all the fame, fortune and sex - but it doesn't mean anything if you don't have love" and preached on more about universal
love to his Kuala Lumpur audience.

The audience appeared unperturbed that he didn't do too much of the customary greetings to the host city over and over again - nor attempt to make more conversation, as Adam appeared to speak, and connect with his fans through his music and performances.

Of course, the audience was more interested to see if there was going to be any tongue-wrestling between Adam and his bassist Tommy Joe Ratliff during the band introductions mid-way through the song.

Since the former already promised his detractors and critics here to behave however, there was one of that - though it didn't hurt that he teased the audience who were roaring when Adam gave a cheeky smile, before moving on and then taking a bow.

Of course there were encores. Mad World was welcome but a cover of T-Rex's 20th Century Boy was iffy as a last song. Perhaps for Asian audiences, an addition, or replacement of Time For Miracles would have been more suitable.

After all, it would have been more befitting the occasion given the obstacles and things said about his concert here. Still, it was no big deal for the fans. Not even the whole show that felt simply too short for a full-fledged concert at just over an hour was a valid grouse.

Adam left with his audience in a shrieking climax, and that perhaps is best how to leave your fans. For now at least before hopefully another fantastic show like this from him here in the not too distant future.

Thank you to Marctensia and Sony Music Malaysia for their hospitality. Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment (Tour Edition and boxed set) is now available in all music stores from Sony Music Malaysia.

Guys guys ada kemungkinan tak sleepwalker jadi his latest single? kat Canada dah jadi single kan...a ...
lake Post at 21-10-2010 20:17

kemungkinan juga. Aku rasa takde masalah kalo sleepwalker ni jadi his latest single.   Tapi kalo dia wat soaked jadik latest single pastu wat wat arrangement  macam masa Glamnation tour, aku leh moyan selama-lamanya .

Dulu teringat evanescent, lagu ballad dorang yg my immortal tuh. Masa dorang kuarkan lagu tu as single dan wat new arrangement (bubuh sket element rock selain piano manjang) trus dorang popler kaw kaw. Aku nak Soaked pun cam tuh....

*aku lom pulih dari moyan mimpi pasal lagu Soaked yg Adam nyanyi kat M'sia. Fedulik hape kalo fancam aku Adam nyanyi bunyik sengau... wakakakak *

RCA puts out glowing press release about 'Superstar' Adam Lambert's new CD

It was all over the news yesterday that the awaited acoustic offering by Adam Lambert would be released on December 6, with a title of Acoustic Live! And it would seem RCA is simply over the moon about it by the heaping praise they wrote for their 'American Idol' breakout star.

The announcement started off with:

Superstar Adam Lambert announces plans to release Acoustic Live! (19 Recordings / RCA Records)...

Lambert has been doing well with his debut offering For Your Entertainment all over the world, and RCA is quick to point out the chart placement of his platinum single "Whataya Want From Me" as a:

...#1 hit on the Billboard charts, topping the Hot Singles Sales survey as well as Hot Dance Singles Sales chart...a smash hit on...the Hot 100, Pop Songs, Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Hot Digital Songs and Hot Dance Club Play.

The announcement continues with international chart info for WWFM, remarking that the song hit the top ten in Argentina, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and Sweden and reached number one in Canada, Germany & Singapore.

Lambert's Glam Nation tour has been phenomenally successful, with sellout or near-sellout dates in every country he has visitied. Interestingly, RCA notes that Lambert is the first of the 'Idol' alums to launch an international tour in support of a debut album within the year after appearing on the show. That is quite an accomplishment, and as many have suggested, shows the level of commitment that RCA and 19 Entertainment have to Lambert's career.

Although Lambert's international successes almost seem to trump what he has done domestically, it is evident that his team has no plans to give up on him. Lambert will be putting out his sophomore effort in 2011 and will no doubt follow that with a promo tour.

Another indicator of 19's commitment is that Lambert still lists Simon Fuller and Iain Pirie as his managers on the latest special edition of For Your Entertainment - 'The Glam Box.'

Fuller was CEO of 19 Entertainment and sold the company to CKX, Inc. five years ago. Fuller stayed on as CEO and as a Director of CKX until his contract ran out earlier this year. He continues to work with CKX / 19 as a consultant and Executive Producer of 19's shows, including 'Idol.' Some of the most successful 'Idol' alumni, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry, were under Fuller's management.

With regard to Lambert's connection to 'Idol', RCA's press release further touts his performances on the reality show as "legendary" and:

his live televised collaborations with Queen and KISS were a highlight of his season and his stunning performances of songs including "Mad World," "The Tracks Of My Tears," "Ring Of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Love" are still widely regarded as some of the most captivating moments in Idol history.

Not too shabby a write-up from one's record company.
