COPIES, FORGERIES AND HITLER'S PAINTINGS

mona lisa is the most copied paintings in the world...
copies are ok, and shows artists' appreciation of an original work of art ...i've seen some exhibitions of copies of famous paintings in good art museums . last one was in Oxford a year ago. I saw a famous gainsborough landscape copy in National museum of bangkok several months back...etc

but FAKES and forgeries are different. This is crime... because these are done to fool people, so that people pay huge sums of money buying paintings they believe to be by the real  original artist ...

there are many forgeries ...many salvador dali paintings for example are fakes...some famous forgeries include vermeers, etc...

now there is an auction of HITLER's art in UK...some of us know that hitler used to be a painter before he became infamous...

you can see a sample of hitler's watercolor  and read the auction news here..

http://arts.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1881806,00.html

But some people believe these are merely forgeries. You can read it here

jackson pollock's  #5, 1948 broke the record for the most expensive paintings at USD140 millions sold recently by david Geffen

i've mentioned somewhere quite a while back in this thread that among the abstract expressionists i love jackson pollock (and de kooning and franz kline ) most...and my art appreciation just about stop here...i hate pop art, and any other newer arts post 1940s...

and in case you haven't heard the news... yes somebody paid  USD140 million for a jackson pollock drip painting! and you can read a very funny rant about this here

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,1939927,00.html

and another equally funny piece about the craziness of paying so much money for a piece of art here

http://arts.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1939662,00.html

and a very interesting story about the seller David geffen here

http://arts.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1939993,00.html

and  you can see here an example of  pollock  painting which is almost identical to the one sold , this one here is number 8, 1949

U know what...

So many artworks r slowly become destroyed here... for example, when building got renovation the artworks there were being thrown like rubbish... for me its so sad...

What I can say is..... some people did not know how to respect art.

is that so ms flue?
i wish somebody throws their arts my way...i'll surely will keep them with respect.

i think i saw some artworks being 'stored' haphazadly in unsecured and unlocked rooms in Balai seni lukis negara! i feel like stealing these artworks... and i think i can get away with it too, but of course i won't do such thing... but it may happen one day...arts stolen by some people i mean...
