Top 10 Bollywood Pairs We Would Like To See In Films
There are some celebrity pairs who you wonder why they haven’t been cast in a movie opposite each other – and then there are some which you would really like to see for yourselves. We give you a list of the top 10 Bollywood pairs we would like to see in films.
1. Emraan Hashmi And Aishwarya Rai
The serial kisser and the beauty queen – well, this would be one weird pair, indeed! It is a different matter altogether that Aishwarya has not been acting ever since the birth of her little girl. However, both actors are pretty good and have made international debuts–Aishwarya Rai in ‘Pink Panther 2’ and Hashmi will be appearing in Danis Tanović’s next movie. We think this would make for a very interesting couple.
2. Aamir Khan And Vidya Balan
We know Aamir Khan is picky about his films – but Vidya Balan could be the perfect pick, we think. Both actors are brilliant, to say the least, and we could totally imagine a period or contemporary drama with these two actors. Besides, the ‘Dirty Picture’ star has already voiced her interest in working with Mr. Perfectionist last year itself!
3. Ranbir Kapoor And Kareena Kapoor
Before you go off in a rant about “oh-it’s-wrong-they-are-brother-and-sister”, let us tell you that tinsel town rumors till a couple of months said that Zoya Akhtar was going to cast both Kapoor kids in her upcoming film as siblings. But well, that didn’t work out as she later denied the reports. However, these two kids are the hottest things in Bollywood right now, and would look great together onscreen. Even as siblings!
4. Salman Khan And Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan figures in this list once again, because the only Khan she has worked with is Saif Ali Khan in ‘Parineeta’. Though she didn’t need them to vault her to stardom, it would be interesting to watch the ‘Dabangg’ actor be paired with this talented actress. It will certainly be a movie packed with powerhouse performance!
5. Abhay Deol And Parineeti Chopra
A Punjabi duo that will set the screens ablaze is Abhay Deol-Parineeti Chopra. Think ‘Dev D’ and think ‘Ishaqzaade’ – need we say more? Both actors have given brilliant performances in their respective movies, and paired together, we believe it could be a very hot chemistry indeed!
6. Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone
How come there has not been one single film with these two hotties together? Deepika is undoubtedly one of the sexiest actresses in recent times, and Hrithik Roshan – well, he is your Greek god personified. We can already see them in an action-thriller in our minds!
7. Shahrukh Khan And Sonakshi Sinha
Newbie Sonakshi Sinha has carved quite a niche for herself since her debut in ‘Dabangg’, and we think it’s time SRK deemed her worthy to be paired opposite him, what do you think? Her last two movies have clashed with the King Khan as far as release dates are concerned. Last Diwali it was ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ VS ‘Son Of Sardaar’, and now ‘Chennai Express’ is going to have similar box-office tussles with her ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2’. Wave a white flag, and act together, we say!
8. Ajay Devgn And Katrina Kaif
The earthy hero, and the divine beauty – what can we say? It will be the epitome of the adage ‘opposites attract’ if they manage to make a successful movie together. Out of all these hopeful duos, this one just might come true if Sanjay Leela Bhansali opts for Devgn to play the lead role in the much-anticipated ‘Bajirao Mastani’ - and also, if the director finalizes on Katrina – who is already rumored to be signed for this movie. Fingers crossed!
9. Akshay Kumar And Huma Qureshi
This will be another ‘masaledar jodi’ for sure. The fiery ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ heroine is fast becoming a popular face in Bollywood news, and she and ‘Mr. Khiladi’ will complement each other like butter and toast!
10. Arjun Kapoor And Mahie Gill
And for our last dream team, we pick Arjun Kapoor of ‘Ishaqzaade’ fame and the ‘Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster’ sultry siren. We can just imagine them in an indie love-hate thriller, can’t you? These two are such an unlikely couple, we take pride in being the first to mention them together in a single sentence! (Image Credit: © BCCL) We hope our Bollywood directors are reading this – if they are running out of ideas for hot new pairs. And if any of these dream couples are paired together, remember we told you first.

Athit Naik's short film gets its big ticket to Cannes
While most child actors aspire to become heroes and heroines, Athit Naik, who played Preity Zinta's little brother in 'Kal Ho Na Ho' (2003), has opted for a career behind the camera. His short film, 'The Girl In The Woods', has been selected for Cannes Short Film Corner. India-born Athit, who trained in cinematography in Philippines and Los Angeles, has shot music videos for artistes like Jamie Foxx. His short film is about a girl trapped in a forest, held back by her past.
Actor-filmmaker Nileish Malhotra's comedy Hanki Panki has also made it to the Short Film Corner. The movie revolves around two Scottish women who visit India and enter a baking competition. Apart from being at Cannes, Malhotra is also thrilled to meet up with South superstar Chiranjeevi.

10 Family Filmmakers In Bollywood
Family pictures have always been the mainstay of Bollywood and many filmmakers have left their mark on the industry by giving audiences movies that depicted the role and importance of families over the decades. Here are the best directors who have given us some great family dramas.
1. Karan Johar
One of the best director-producers of Bollywood presently, Karan Johar is best known for his romantic and family dramas. Of the latter, he has directed some superhit ones – ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ being some of them. He has also produced quite a number of family films, ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ being the most popular ones. The director is now basking in the glory of his latest hit, ‘Bombay Talkies’.
2. Sooraj R. Barjatya
The director who ushered in family films in the 90s with ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun..!’ is Sooraj R. Barjatya. He has consistently made movies clean enough for the entire family to sit together and watch. From ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hai: We Stand United’ to ‘Vivah’, Barjatya has been providing wholesome family entertainment. He will next be releasing another movie (unnamed) in 2014, starring Salman Khan.
3. Mahesh Bhatt
Before the ‘Murder’s and the ‘Jism’s and the ‘Raaz’s – there were ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke’ and ‘Papa Kehte Hai’ and ‘Sir’. Mahesh Bhatt, in his four-decade long career, has given us a number of family movies with rip-roaring comedy, gut-wrenching tragedy and heart-thumping romances. Even then, these family films are more the exception than the rule in Bhatt’s developing cinematic style – which focuses more on psychological and emotional drama.
4. Yash Chopra
This list would be incomplete without Yash Raj Chopra. He has been producer to some a number of best family films over the years – and those include ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ and ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’. As a director too, his movies have gone down in history as classics, including ‘Waqt’, ‘Chandni’ and ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’.
5. Mira Nair
One of the internationally most celebrated filmmakers of India, Mira Nair also deserves a mention in this list – for her family dramas ‘Monsoon Wedding’ and ‘The Namesake’. The former won her a number of nominations and wins, and most importantly – a Golden Globe nomination. Master storyteller, and not always about rainbows and sunshine and unicorns – Nair is the only woman filmmaker on this list.
6. Nagesh Kukunoor
One of the best and yet underrated directors of Bollywood who has given us a number of family movies is Hyderabad-born Nagesh Kukunoor. Starting from his debut full-length film ‘Hyderabad Blues’ to the critically acclaimed ‘Aashayein’ – Kukunoor’s every creation is a jewel of sensitivity and subtle emotions. The filmmaker will next grapple with the subject of child prostitution in his upcoming movie, ‘Laxmi’.
7. Ravi Chopra
Nephew of late Yash Chopra, Ravi Chopra too gave us some memorable family movies in his sporadic directorial venture. Most worthy of mention are his two latest movies – ‘Baghban’ and ‘Baabul’. A veritable tearjerker, ‘Baghban’ has gone on to be Chopra’s biggest hit. The latter repeats the cast with Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Salman Khan – and it celebrated Chopra’s father, B. R. Chopra’s 50 years in cinema.
8. R. Balakrishnan
Also known as R. Balki, R. Balakrishnan is the latest entry into Bollywood and made his debut with ‘Cheeni Kum’. But we have him on his list for his two other movies – ‘Paa’, which went on to receive huge accolades at awarding events, and ‘English Vinglish’ which is his debut as a producer. ‘Paa’ was a path-breaker of sorts for dealing with the rare medical condition called progeria, while ‘English Vinglish’ has wowed the audience with the transformation of a simple housewife to a confident woman.
9. Mansoor Khan
Son of filmmaker Nasir Hussain and cousin of superstar Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan is known for his romantic family dramas like ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ and ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar’ – which gained cult status in the 90s. His last movie, which also was a hit among Indian audience, was ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ – a family and romantic caper which marked nephew Imran Khan’s debut.
10. Deepak Sarin
We end the list with Deepak Sarin, who has been assistant director to some famous yesteryear movies like ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ and ‘Silsila’. His directorial venture lasted for four films – which were hits of their day. ‘Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai’ and ‘Albela’ are romcoms of an age when censor boards did not have a hard time passing these films – as such made for great family entertainment. (Image Credit: © BCCL) Family movies with real entertainment are becoming few and far between. On a day like World Family Day, these directors ought to be remembered for their contribution to cinema – and wholesome family fun.

Top 10 Mujra Girls Of Bollywood
The grace of a peacock, the beauty of a rose and the voice of a nightingale – the Lacknavi salon culture asked a lot of the courtesans. Here we have the top 10 actresses of Bollywood who would have been perfect for that era, given their excellent performances in the mujra numbers in films over the years.
Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit is among the top actress-dancers of Bollywood in recent times. She played a courtesan as Chandramukhi in the 2002 ‘Devdas’ remake. Her performance in the song ‘Maar Dala’ became hugely popular that year. And she will be seen in a similar avatar for the song ‘Apne Karar Mein’ in the upcoming ‘Dedh Ishqiya’.
Meena Kumari
The original Mujra queen, Meena Kumari swayed the audiences with her dances in ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Inhi Logon Ne’ and ‘Thare Rahiyo’ – all from the classic hit ‘Pakeezah’. One of Meena Kumari’s last films, she received a posthumous Filmfare nomination for her beautiful portrayal of a tragic courtesan.
Vyjayanthimala
The original Chandramukhi in the 1955 ‘Devdas’, Vyjayanthimala was an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer to begin with. Hence, her performance in ‘Ab Aage Teri Marzi’ did not come as a tough task – and she looked like she knew her moves alright.
Rekha
Rekha is another yesteryear Mujra queen who can give any present-day actress a run for her money. She was scintillating in ‘Umrao Jaan’ (1981) – her most memorable Mujra performances being ‘In Aakhon Ki Masti’ and ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’. Another jewel of hers is ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ from ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’.
Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai comes off a poor second next to Rekha in the ‘Umrao Jaan’ remake, but she too is quite good as a tragic ‘tawaif’. ‘Salaam’ was a beautiful number that Aishwarya will best be remembered for from the movie. Besides, her performance in the song from ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ - ‘Kajra Re’, a quite upbeat twist to the classic Mujra, went through the roof when it was released.
Rani Mukherji
Remember this Bong beauty in ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’? She played a prostitute who falls in love with the protagonist. The Mujra of that film was
called ‘Main Vari Vari’. Rani looked resplendent in her pink and gold regalia as the chief courtesan – and made the most of her small role in the movie.
Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen had a small role in ‘Kisna: The Warrior Poet’ (2005) – and as the courtesan Naima Begum, danced to the much forgettable number ‘Chilman Uthegi Nahi’. Although she looked beautiful and danced gracefully, the performance was a marker of how the subtleties of the dance form is now near to being lost in Bollywood.
Kareena Kapoor
Enter: the age of modern mujras – and the churidars are replaced with shararas. Kareena Kapoor brought in this change with ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ in ‘Agent Vinod’ (2012). The beats sound nothing like those of the languid sarods and upbeat tablas of the original mujras. But, Kareena is Kareena – and like everything else she does, she pulled it off like a star.
Mahie Gill
One of Bollywood’s dark horses, Mahie looked like a million dollars in ‘Ranaji’ from the movie ‘Gulaal’ (2009). It is not technically a Mujra in the purest form, as it has a lot of socio-political overtones – unlike the former, which deals with more romantic themes. But you have to hand it to Mahie; she rocked the song – politics and all. The dance genre has mutated and developed over the years – and every actress who has danced to it has given it their own special touch, making these 10 our favorite Mujra girls!

Bollywood’s 10 Most Popular Hair Styles
Bollywood has been very innovative when it comes to hairstyles. Fans all across India have been inspired to ape and flaunt these hairstyles brought in trend by their favorite actors.
From the famous Sadhana fringe to Salman Khan’s long unruly mop, everything has been copied and conquered. Here’s a look at the 10 most popular hair trends of Bollywood.
1) The Sadhana Cut
Besides making the tight-fitting churidaar a rage in Waqt, Sadhana also made the Audrey Hepburn-inspired fringe a phenomenon back in the ‘60s. The style was inspired from Audrey’s look in Roman Holiday. Sadhana’s wispy micro fringe gave a seductive but sweet look to her character in Waqt. Others have also tried to recreate the look, but none have come close to the impact that this style had over people.
2) The Bouffant
Our gorgeous Bollywood beauties loved to pile their hair in a bouffant and let it hang along the sides. That was another fashion fad of the ‘60s. From the glamorous Sharmila Tagore, to the elegant Waheeda Rahman and Saira Banu, nobody could resist the beauty of a bulky bouffant.
3) Shammi Kapoor’s Ducktail hairdo
When he wasn’t busy crying ‘Yahoo’ or dazzling ladies in his trademark cocky swagger, he was busy ensuring that his ducktail hairstyle with the side fringe became a trend! So much so, that the style was mirrored by all the generations of men. Yes, that’s how awesome this guy was.
4) Dimple Kapadia's hairdo in Saagar
The hairstyle of the ‘80s meant more volume. However, people were simply crazy about Dimple Kapadia’s hairdo in Saagar. Dimple’s luscious, auburn mane was the second most talked about aspect of the film, after her brief topless moment in Saagar. The famous ‘Saagar Choti’, which is the Indian version of the French plate, also borrows the name from the film.
5) Amitabh Bachchan’s side burns
The actor made the Elvis Presley look popular in the ‘80s. Long, middle-parted hair, with thick sideburns came to the fore with films like Deewar, Nastik and Kasauti. Young boys, too, took to this style and they were seen sporting side burns with long hair, much to the chagrin of teachers and parents.
6) Sanjay Dutt's long hair
Among the males, no one wore his hair (and still does) with more élan than Sanjay Dutt. Long, unkempt, colored - it accentuated his sexuality in films such as Saajan, Rocky and the ‘90 hit, Thaanedar. He is the first star from Bollywood to start the long hair trend and the youth went gaga over the look.
7) Poker straight hair
So popular was Karisma Kapoor’s severely straightened hair in Raja Hindustani, that the actress kept the style in many of her later films. Taking a cue from the actress was another B-town beauty, Preity Zinta, in her erstwhile hit, Kal Ho Na Ho. In effect, many women queued up to salons to get their hair straightened, too!
8) Aamir's Spikes in Dil Chahta Hai
Aamir's goatee that he sported in Dil Chahta Hai was perhaps his most trendsetting look. The urban youth look portrayed by Aamir Khan was so stylish that swept through the young populace. Soon enough, the coming-of-age movie made the goatee and spiky hairstyle a popular choice and quite a strong fashion statement among movie lovers.
9) Aamir Khan’s Ghajini look
A lot has also been written and spoken about Aamir’s chiselled six-pack look in Ghajini. However, the film sets trends in more than one. It gave a fresh new, bald look to Aamir that many of us would not have ever imagined, and also brought back the trend of action films in Bollywood. His fans couldn’t resist trying out the new hip, bald look. After all, who knew, shaving your head would be considered so cool?
10) Salman Khan’s Tere Naam look
He could possibly wear rags and even that would become a rage among people, for his fans love to ape whatever he does; which is why it didn't come as a shock when his hideous and messy long hairdo in Tere Naam was copied all across India. Truth be told, it would have looked a big hot mess on anyone else.
