DRB-HICOM unit to manufacture armoured vehicles
By EDY SARIF
[email protected]

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-HICOM Bhd’s defence arm, DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech) has received a letter of intent (LOI) from the Government to manufacture 257 units of 8X8 armoured wheeled vehicle for the usage of Angkatan Tentera Malaysia worth about RM8bil.

Chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil said the project value, as disclosed by the Government, was subject to commercial and technical terms between both parties as the project would span six years.

We will deliver the 257 units of 8X8 armoured wheeled vehicle to the Government by 2016. The company will come out with the first vehicle by January 2012,” he told reporters yesterday at a press conference.

Under the LOI, the company would develop, manufacture, supply and deliver 12 variants of the armoured wheeled vehicle.

Mohd Khamil also said Deftech had secured intellectual properties rights for the vehicles under this project. “This will give Deftech the rights to build and market the vehicles to the regional market. At this time, we are looking for such opportunities,” he said.

Chief executive officer Abdul Harith Abdullah said the company was not only involved in the defence and security business but also commercial such as building buses.

Deftech is the largest a participant at the Defence Service Asia 2010 exhibition. The exhibition, held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, will end on Thursday

masalahnya sekarang, klu beli kenderaan mcm patria atau patria pun klu campur semua maintenance semua, takkan sampai 8 billion pun, selama ni kita beli pun mmg termasuk maintenance apa semua, dah lantik pun syrikat utk maintenance, tp seolah2 atm pulak yg kena tanggung kos RnD kenderaan ni nnti, lgpun pd masa skrg kita perlukan lebih kenderaan tempur, mcm mana jumlah 200 lebih ni nak tutup kekosongan 600 lebih condor dan 200 sibmas. maknanya kita perlukan hampir 20 billion la klu nak lengkapkan semua 5 rejimen dengan pars, bila lak nak ganti kapal pengangkut, jet pejuang ngan friget , klu duit semua dah serah beli apc, ini yg perlu fikir,

betul tu, beli APC, dgn weapon system, spare parts, ToT pun takkan sampai RM 8 billion utk around 300 unit jer?

Dalam terbitan ShowDaily DSA 2010, Hari Ke-3, kemungkinan turer yg dipakai adalah FNSS Sharpshooter 25mm dan Denel LCT30 30mm

Wow..IRIS-T SAM version. This is at the forefront of technology, more so compared to the others that we've 'considered' before.
Should this materializes,it'll be a big boost to our ground-based air defense capability.
