We'll sell Cesc ... for £40m
ARSENAL have slapped a £40million price-tag on Cesc Fabregas as they brace themselves for a bid from Real Madrid or Barcelona.
A Gunners insider said: "Nobody at Arsenal wants to see Fabregas go but there comes a point when the money is too good to turn down. If Arsenal receive a bid in the region of £40m there will be an enormous pressure to sell."
Emirates boss Arsene Wenger is desperate for funds to strengthen his squad in order to mount a credible title challenge. The loss of midfielder Fabregas, 22, would seem like a hammer blow but the Gunners went on a 20-game unbeaten run in the league when he was crocked last season.
Real and Barcelona are in the hunt for the Spaniard and appear certain to bid for him. Barca president Joan Laporta signalled his intention to make an offer last week. Laporta publicly invited the Arsenal skipper to declare his desire to return to his boyhood club. And he said: "Cesc has Barcelona in his DNA and I think that one day he should play for Barca.
"We all like him very much - the technical director, the manager, as well as me. He's always been in our thoughts."
Fabregas openly flirted with both clubs last week as he branded Arsenal "impotent" for failing to win silverware.
He said: "The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most. Cristiano Ronaldo said he's leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence."
Fabregas went further and said his Catalan family would back him if he went to the Bernabeu.
He added: "Of course my family would understand because they love me, they want me to be happy. They'd support me whichever club I joined."
After SunSport published his words, Fab issued a statement on the Arsenal website, reiterating his desire to win trophies with the Gunners.

Cana’s future to be decided at end of week
Marseille skipper Lorik Cana’s future should be resolved by the end of the week, with the Albanian yet to rule out a move to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has been constantly linked to Europe’s top sides with Arsenal reportedly interesting in acquiring the combative hitman.
Cana hasn’t ruled out a move to the Gunners’ either, according to him, several English sides have contacted Marseille chief Jose Anigo.
“A transfer is not certain yet, I’m still captain of the OM [Marseille]. One thing I do know: we will have a clearer picture at the end of the week.”
“There are opportunities to go in the course of this week or next. I am thinking logically at the moment. If the conditions are met, I will [leave]. Anyway, for now, nothing is already done and nothing is 100% secure, even on my side. I have not even discussed with the new coach.” |
