Maeda Atsuko, Golden Bomber, and more join Softbank CM
It’s been revealed that former AKB48 member Maeda Atsuko, air rock band Golden Bomber, and actresses Kiki Kirin and Koshiba Fuka will be appearing in Softbank Mobile’s new ‘Shirato Family‘ CM series. On January 18th, a press conference was held in Tokyo.
As the new CM will promote the ‘White Gakuwari with Kazoku‘ plan, Maeda attended the event dressed as a teacher, while the rest of the cast wore student uniforms. Golden Bomber’s Kiryuin Sho commented, “I’m surprised that we’re going to be in a CM,” and Maeda said, “I’m happy to join the most famous family in Japan.”
Kiki, who appeared in a school girl uniform and silver bobbed hair, said, “I’m now 70-years-old. Even though I’m 70, I’m forever learning. In that sense, this CM is perfect for me.” Meanwhile, Golden Bomber’s Darvish Kenji commented, “Since this was my first CM, I was able to be a good son.”
During this event, it was announced that professional soccer player Kagawa Shinji will also serve as the CM character. He will appear in the ‘Shirato Family’ series, and the preview CM will air starting January 19th. Kagawa commented, “This time, I wasn’t able to meet and shoot with the Shirato Family, but I’m already looking forward to meeting and co-starring with them.”

TOKYO GIRLS’ STYLE to hold free lives in Osaka and Kawasaki
TOKYO GIRLS’ STYLE have revealed that they will be holding free lives in Osaka and Kawasaki to commemorate the release of their new album, “Yakusoku” (January 30th).
The girls are scheduled to perform two shows each on February 11th at Chisato Selcy (Osaka) and on March 2nd at Lazona Kawasaki (Kanagawa). After the show, they plan to hold a handshake event.
In related news, their title track “Yakusoku” will be available in Chaku-Uta form on January 29th. There will be special privilege for those who download it in the first 24 hours.

Momoiro Clover Z to hold 3-day fan club live at Yokohama Arena
It’s been revealed that Momoiro Clover Z will be holding a 3-day fan club live at Yokohama Arena.
This was announced on January 19th during their live event, ‘Dokusen! Momoclo 60-pun vol.5‘, at Ishikawa-ken Sangyou Tenjikan. When Momota Kanako gave the announcement during the MC, screams of delight broke out from the audience.
The fan club live will be held on May 27th, 28th, and 29th, and there will be a total of 5 performances. Any member of their official fan club ‘ANGEL EYES‘ will be able to purchase tickets. Those who aren’t members yet can register before the end of this month in order to reserve a ticket. More details will be revealed later through their fan club site.

Momoiro Clover Z to release their 2nd album in April
It’s been revealed that Momoiro Clover Z will be releasing their 2nd full album (currently untitled) on April 10th.
The group made this announcement on January 19 during the 2nd part of their live event, ‘Dokusen! Momo Kuno 60-pun vol.5‘, at Ishikawa-ken Sangyou Tenjikan. This is their first album since “Battle and Romance” was released back in July of 2011.
Leader Momota Kanako said, “Actually, we’ve been progressing a lot with the album’s recording. There are many different kinds of songs, such as songs that will make you think ‘what is this?!’ as well as songs that will make you think ‘wow Momoclo!‘. I think it’s going to turn out to be an album filled with many different genres. We want to make a wonderful album and deliver it to everyone, so please look forward to it.”
Prior to the album’s release, Momoiro Clover Z will hold a live tour in March. For this tour, they are scheduled to perform 6 shows in 3 locations; Osaka, Nagoya, and Sapporo. Then after its release, they will hold their annual spring live, ‘Momoclo Haru no Ichidaiji 2013‘, on April 13th and 14th at Seibu Dome.
During the first part of this event, Momoiro Clover Z announced that they would hold a 3-day fan club live at Yokohama Arena on May 27th to the 29th. Any member of their fan club ‘ANGEL EYES‘ will be able to purchase tickets.

Ohashi Trio to release new album, “Plugged”
Ohashi Trio has announced that his new album, “Plugged“, will be released on March 13th.
In 2012, Ohashi Trio released his cover album, “FAKE BOOK III“, as well as a collaboration album called “White” featuring guest artists Hirai Ken and Yano Akiko. His first album in a year and 3 months will have a “rock” concept, and he will be joined by Kaneko Nobuaki (RIZE) and Takakuwa Kiyoshi (Curly Giraffe) as band members and Emi Meyer with the lyrics.
The album will be available for purchase in both CD+DVD and CD-Only versions. The DVD will contain an hour and a half of footage from the “Ohashi Trio Quartet Hensei Live 2012 ‘ohashiTrip’ TOUR” which was held late last year.
To coincide with this album’s release, Ohashi Trio will embark on a nationwide tour starting in May. The Tokyo and Osaka concerts will mark his very first outdoors live. Tickets will go on sale starting in early March through a new community site called ‘cafe PRETAPORTER‘.

KREVA to release an instrumental version of new album ‘SPACE’
It’s been revealed that KREVA will be releasing an instrumental album titled ‘SPACE Instrumentals‘ on February 20th.
“SPACE Instrumentals” will be an instrumental version of his upcoming album ‘SPACE‘ which will be released on February 27th. It’s a rare occasion for an artist to release an instrumental version before its original one.
In addition, the live audio digest for KREVA’s new single, “Ouja no Kyujitsu“, is currently available for listening via SoundCloud.

Mizuki Nana announces summer tour
It’s been revealed that Mizuki Nana will be holding a one-man tour (currently untitled) starting on July 7th.
This was announced on January 20th during Mizuki’s full orchestra concert, ‘NANA MIZUKI LIVE GRACE 2013 -OPUS II-‘, at Saitama Super Arena. The tour will kick off in her hometown, at Ehime Budokan in Ehime Prefecture. The complete tour schedule will be revealed in the coming days.
Additionally, Mizuki will be releasing ‘NANA MIZUKI LIVE GRACE 2013 -OPUS II-’ DVD and Blu-ray this spring. More details on this will also be revealed later.

Mogura no Uta’ to get live-action adaptation starring Ikuta Toma
It was announced that Takahashi Noboru’s popular manga “Mogura no Uta” would be getting a live-action adaptation starring Ikuta Toma.
The original manga is currently being serialized on “Weekly Big Comic Spirits“, and there has been 33 volumes published. Apparently, many musicians, comedians, and even other manga-ka have stated that they were a fan of this manga.
‘Mogura no Uta’ revolves around protagonist Kikukawa Reiji, a police officer who graduated from the police academy with the lowest grade in history. The story starts where Reiji is condemned to dismissal by the chief. Ostensibly, it was a disciplinary dismissal, but it was actually a command for him to become an undercover agent (commonly called “Mogura (= mole)”).
His target is Todoroki Shuho, the boss of a big Yakuza clan in Kanto area, Sukiya-kai. Reiji happens to become a favorite of Hiura Masaya, the young leader of Akogi-kai, a subsidiary Yakuza family of the “Sukiya-kai”. Gradually he reached Todoroki by overcoming many hardships.
Ikuta will be playing the protagonist “Kikukawa Reiji” who is stupid and perverted, but still a virgin. Though Ikuta has played many different roles in movies, many are expecting to see a Ikuta Toma which has never been seen before. In the beginning of the movie, there will be a scene in which Ikuta is bound hand and foot on the hood of a car naked, and the car runs at full speed while he is still on the hood. There will also be scenes where the original author Takahashi expressed, “I thought it could only happen in Manga!”
Miike Takashi will direct the movie and Kudo Kankuro will be in charge of its script. This will be Ikuta’s first time working with Miike, but he worked with Kudo in the drama “Unubore Deka.” Ikuta commented, “I am looking forward and excited to be there when the two talented people who Japan is proud of, clashing into each other. I would like to be soaked deeply into the Miike & Kudo world. I am fired up!!! Bring it on!!!!”
Miike also said, “I want to make the movie with such a sense of speed that you can’t take our eyes off the screen as something happens every 5 minutes, sort of like a ‘Japanese Mission Impossible.’ I also want to make it so extreme that it might traumatize junior high school students.”
The filming will begin at the end of January, and it will end in March. They are aiming to complete post-production for a 2014 release.

Pop trio girl next door will be releasing their 5th original album on March 13th.
The album will feature a total of 13 tracks including their already released singles “Signal” and “all my life“. It will be available for purchase in 3 different versions: CD+DVD, CD+Blu-ray, and CD-Only. The DVD and Blu-ray will contain footage from ‘girl next door live tour 2012 ~Best Collection~‘ which was held last year.
To coincide with this album’s release, girl next door will be setting out on a live tour starting in April. It will kick off on April 13th at Koriyama CLUB #9, and will wrap up on June 2nd at Shibuya DUO MUSIC EXCHANGE. The entire tour schedule is provided below.

Tamura Yukari to release 23rd single in April
It’s been revealed that Tamura Yukari will be releasing her 23rd single (currently untitled) on April 17th.
Tamura’s new single has already been picked up as the opening theme for the tv anime, ‘Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko‘, starting in April. In the anime, Tamura will voice ‘The King of Steel’, who is the manager of the protagonist’s track-and-field club.
Prior to this single, Tamura will release her 22nd single, “W:Wonder tale“, on February 6th. The title track is the ending theme for the anime, ‘Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru‘. It will also contain 2 songs called “Katahou Dake no Earring” and “I.N.G.“.

SID tops Oricon weekly chart for the first time with their 1st best-of album
Rock band SID’s first best-of album “SID 10th Anniversary BEST” (released on January 16th) sold 45,000 copies in the first week, and topped the Oricon weekly album chart for the week of January 28th. This marked SID’s first time ever to top the chart for either single or album.
SID’s previously highest ranked works were 4 of their singles: “Uso” (released in April 2009), “sleep” (released in March 2010), “Rain” (released in June 2010), and “Itsuka” (released in September 2011), and one album “hikari” (released in July 2009). All 4 of these singles reached a peak of second place.
“SID 10th Anniversary BEST” contains total 18 tracks including the songs from their indie days. You can check the details on SID’s first best-of album on our previous post (here).
SID will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this May.

Alice Nine to release new single for 3 consecutive months
Alice Nine will be releasing a new single for 3 consecutive months starting in March.
Their first single will be titled “Daybreak” and it will drop in stores on March 20th. It will be available in 7 different types: Limited Edition, SHOU Version, HIROTO Version, TORA Version, SAGA Version, NAO Version, and Regular Edition. Those who purchase the Limited Edition, Regular Edition, and one of the members’ versions will receive a participation ticket for their autograph signing event.

Katori Shingo & Anne to co-star in a new drama ‘Kasuka na Kanojo’
It was announced that SMAP’s Katori Shingo will be starring in a new drama “Kasuka na Kanojo” (tentative title) that will start airing in April. In the drama, Katori will play a junior high school teacher “Koyama Akira” who has an ability to sense ghosts, and Anne will co-star with him as a ghost named “Akane” who used to be a teacher. It’s a love comedy in which Akira faces several problems happening at the school together with Akane.

“Koyama Akira” has a traumatic experience from his previous school in which his actions in response to solving a bullying problem did not work out. When he transfers to a new school, he sets his mind on staying out of problems. When he moves into a new apartment, he encounters “Akane”, a ghost living in his apartment.
While being pushed around by Akane’s escapade and her advice from a “dead person’s point of view”, Akira gradually finds out what’s important as a teacher by facing several problems and solving them.

Katori commented, “I hate ghosts. I’m scared of them. So I’ve kept avoiding a job that was related to ghosts until now, but I never expected the day when I would fall in love with a ghost, would come…” He continued, “While getting help from the love and comedy parts, I will try to enjoy the filming with the ghost! I will do my best to become a teacher loved enough by the students so that they run up to me while crying and saying ‘Sensei~!’ in the last episode! The first thing I have to do is to go attend a purification ceremony!!”
On the other hand, Anne who has played as a monster in drama “Yokai Ningen Bem” (NTV), will also play as a witch in “xxxHOLIC” (to begin airing on 2/24 on WOWOW), and now will play as ghost in this drama, said, “I accomplished the ‘full combo’ now! There’s nothing to be afraid of anymore!” Regarding her co-star, Katori, she said, “Even though I have worked with him several times in variety shows, this is my first time to co-star with him in acting, so my heart is fluttering. There will be many scenes that only two of us appear in, which makes me nervous, but I will put everything I have into the role!”
“Kasuka na Kanojo” will air on KTV/Fuji TV starting in April (every Tuesday at 10:00 pm).

AKB48 looks back on the year of 2012 with their new documentary film
On January 21st, premiere screening for AKB48’s newest documentary film “DOCUMENTARY OF AKB48 NO FLOWER WITHOUT RAIN Shoujo tachi wa Namida no Ato ni Nani wo Miru?” was held at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. The 8 AKB48 members (Takahashi Minami, Oshima Yuko, Shinoda Mariko, Kojima Haruna, Itano Tomomi, Minegishi Minami, Kitahara Rie, Yokoyama Yui) and the director Takahashi Eiki made their appearances at the stage greeting for the documentary film that detailed covers AKB48’s activities in 2012.
The members greeted the audience, “I did not expect that this many people would come. I think it’s not so easy to go watch idol movies, but thank you for coming today. (Oshima)”, ”I cried many times watching this movie. I want every one of you to feel something through this as well. (Itano)”, “Since I forgot a lot of things recently, it was great that the movie reminded me about the year of 2012. (Kitahara)”
The director Takahashi also said, “2012 was the year that so many things happened for AKB48, so it was such an enormous work to summarize it into 2-hour movie. I’m relieved that it’s finished in time.”
Regarding their first live concert at the Tokyo Dome held back in last summer, which will also be shown in the film, Takahashi (Minami) commented, “Even now, it still feels like that might have been a dream. At first AKB’s official blog was titled as ‘Tokyo Dome made no Kiseki (lit. ‘The tracks to the Tokyo Dome’)', and we could not even fill up the seats at the theater in Akihabara, but after 7 years, we were able to stand on that stage. It is the treasure in our lives.” Shinoda, who was appointed as the new captain of team A during the first day of the Tokyo Dome concerts, said about the time, “I remember I doubted at first as I thought ‘It must be a joke. No way!’ I was always watching Minam by her side, and I had no dignity and responsibility as a captain, so I was full of uneasiness that night. Although it is working as a new team now, I am still faced with what it is to be the captain.”
About Maeda Atsuko’s graduation from the group, Kojima expressed her thought, with, “When Acchan was about to start talking (after the Saitama Super Arena live concert), I felt that she was going to announce her graduation, and I was wishing for her not to say that. I think even the audience had the similar atmosphere on that day, but Acchan’s face expression while making the announcement looked great.” She then continued, “It makes us so nervous when we stand in the center. Even the view looks different from usual, and you can’t just say a word. So, I still feel that Acchan is magnificent.” Oshima also shared her thought, “It is like Maeda Atsuko has her own position, while Oshima Yuko has her own position…and the spotlights happened to play on Oshima’s position, for example. I think that the center position itself is moving around, and the position where the spotlights are turned on by chance is the center, rather than that the center position exists in a certain spot.”
When Minegishi was asked about her tears she shed at the Maeda Atsuko’s graduation stage, she answered, “Even though I wrote ‘I will not cry’ on the first calligraphy of the year, I think I cried the most among all the members. The happiness to be able to come that far to the Tokyo Dome, the sadness that Acchan was graduating…it was the first time for me to shed tears with mixed feelings like that.” Yokoyama also said, “There were many types of tears in the film, like tears when you send people off, or tears you shed when you are disappointed. I felt that people shed tears in general for any kinds feelings.”
Regarding the several ways of graduations happened in 2012, Takahashi commented, “There were so many farewells during the year. Some were happy graduations, and there were also many regrettable things, but no matter what happens, there is always tomorrow. So after sending the graduated members off, we just have to hang in here.” In the end of the stage greeting Takahashi told the audience, “This time, the film features mainly the center position and the second chapter of AKB48. In 2012, we have shed many tears. After watching this film, I noticed that the view each member is looking things at is different, and there is also a difference in colors and in meanings for each of our tears. I’m not sure what we would see after shedding the tears, or if the decisions we make would be right. However, no matter what happens, tomorrow will always come. In order for us to be able to smile as many times as we shed tears, we will continue trying our best.”
It was announced that the theme song for the film is “After rain” in which 21 members from AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, JKT48, and SNH48, participated. HiGE announces new album + nationwide tour
Rock band HiGE will be releasing a new album titled “QUEENS, DANKE SCHON PAPA!” on March 27th.
This will mark HiGE’s first album since releasing “Soredewa Minasan Yoi Tabi wo!” a year and four months ago. It will include their new song, “Zoroaster“, which is currently being used as the ending theme for TV Tokyo’s anime, ‘Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman‘. More details on the track list will be revealed later.
To coincide with this album’s release, HiGE will be holding a nationwide tour. It will kick off on May 11th at HEAVEN’S ROCK Utsunomiya VJ-2 and will wrap up on June 28th at Osaka BIG CAT for a total of 17 shows. Take a look at the tour dates below!

Sakanaction to release 6th album in March
It’s been revealed that Sakanaction will be releasing their 6th album (currently untitled) on March 6th.
Sakanaction’s upcoming album will be their first since releasing “DocumentaLy” about a year and a half ago. It will include their 3 singles, “Boku to Hana“, “Yoru no Odoriko“, and “Music“. The limited edition will also come with bonus tracks.
Additionally, the limited edition will come in 2 types; one with a DVD and the other with a Blu-ray. The DVD and Blu-ray will contain documentary footage as well as live footage. The Blu-ray will also enclose music videos.
To commemorate the album’s release, Sakanaction will hold special events in Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka for those who purchase the album. They will also hold events at Tower Records and TSUTAYA RECORDS in Tokyo.

It’s been announced that THE BAWDIES will be holding a free live on January 27th at Osaka Castle Park.
This free live will commemorate the release of their new album, “1-2-3“. It’s also a collaboration event with MBS‘ ‘MUSIC EDGE‘. The members wanted to “hold a big festival in January” that they could enjoy for free with their fans before their upcoming one-man live on June 28th at Osaka-jo Hall.

TV Asahi announcers form a campaign unit for 55th anniversary
On January 22, TV Asahi announcers Mori Yoko (26), Aoyama Megumi (24), Usami Yuka (24), and Hisatomi Keiko (24) revealed their campaign unit “Go-chan. GIRLS” to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the station’s launching.
The group will be active from February 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 during the 55th anniversary year period and they appeared in Sentai-style dresses.
Announcer Hisatomi, who is “Go-chan. Pink” for the group, shouted, “We will try our best to overtake Momoclo (Momoiro Clover Z).” TV Asahi President Hayakawa Hiroshi (69) laughed as he said, “Why don’t you release a CD and do things, and please contribute to our profits.”

Morning Musume announces Tanaka Reina’s graduation date
On January 23rd, popular idol group Morning Musume appeared at a release event for their new single “Help me!!“, and announced at a press conference held before the event, that member Tanaka Reina’s graduation concert would be on May 21 at Nippon Budokan. It also happens to be the final day of their upcoming nation-wide tour titled “Morning Musume Concert Tour 2013 Haru Michishige☆Eleven SOUL ~Tanaka Reina Sotsugyou Kinen Special~” that will start on March 16.

Tanaka announced her graduation from the group back in November of last year, and after the graduation, she will shift her band activities into full swing. “Though I have about 3 months left, I would like to enjoy my Morning Musume life until the end.” Tanaka said with a smile.
Regarding the group after she leaves, Tanaka commented, “I don’t feel insecure about the group itself, but I am worried that Sayu (Michishige Sayumi) will have to lead the group by herself. Up until now, I was the one who listened to her stories when she felt frustrated…“, but then she continued, “but they will be able to manage somehow, since that’s how Morning Musume is. They will be alright just like until now!”
The leader, Michishige also commented, “Reina is very important person for me, and for Morning Musume as well, but I want her to try her best to make her dream come true. We will also try our best as hard as Reina.”
Morning Musume’s new single “Help me!!” that was released on the same day, was the first single since the 11th generation member Oda Sakura joined the group. It topped the Oricon daily chart on the release day by selling 61,291 copies.

Othello’s Matsushima Nahomi announces her 2nd pregnancy
On January 23rd, Matsushima Nahomi (41) of comedian duo Othello announced her 2nd pregnancy through her official blog.
In an entry titled “Baby“, Matsushima wrote, “As a matter of fact, my second baby is currently in my stomach. Has it been exposed already?! With my body type, my stomach really sticks out. Right now, I’m 16 weeks and 1 day pregnant… in other words, I’m in my 5th month. My due date is July 9th.”
With her first pregnancy, Matsushima started bleeding in her 7th week and was forced to take a break from work. This time, she shared, “When I was optimistic thinking, ‘the baby is healthy!!’… I started bleeding in my 11th week… This time turned out to be a more serious situation! However, I am stable now.”
Matsushima married musician Hisada Toshihiro back in 2008 and gave birth to her first son in December of 2011.
