Khinzir kemungkinan akan bersama tentera Israel berhadapan dengan IntifadaSuratkhabar Israel Yediot Aharonout menyatakan bahawa pakar Israel telah mula melatih khinzir-khinzir untuk mengesan letupan dan periuk api, dan tentera penceroboh sedang mengkaji keadaan sensitiviti perkhidmatan binatang tersebut, akan tetapi pegawai Israel takut berlakunya masalah ini kerana haiwan ini dianggap najis menurut ajaran Yahudi.

Menurut akhbar terbitan hari Selasa 30-9-2003 :

إن أحد سكان مدينة بئر سبع ويُدعى "جيفع تسيون" -26 سنة- وكان يعمل في الجيش الإسرائيلي كمروض كلاب، اكتشف بعد تسريحه وسفره إلى كرواتيا وعمله في الكشف عن حقول الألغام بمعونة الكلاب، أن الخنازير البرية قد تكون أكثر براعة من الكلاب في الكشف عن الألغام!

"salah seorang dari penduduk bandar Beersheba, Gifa Tasion, 26 tahun, beliau bekerja dengan tentera Israel sebagai penjinak anjing, menemui kaedah ini semasa bermusafir ke Croatia, dan bekerja memusnahkan periuk api dengan bantuan anjing, mendapati bahawa khinzir lebih cekap dari anjing didalam pencarian periuk api!."

Tambah akhbar Yediot Aharonout : Tasion mengkaji perangai khinzir di wilayah Crotia, dan membuat kesimpulan bahawa ia lebih berupaya dan efektif dari anjing didalam mengesan periuk api dan letupan.

Akhbar Israel itu telah dimaklumkan bahawa Tasion berkata : beliau mendapati ia boleh menghidu bumi secara lancar, dan hidungnya lebih bagus dipermukaan bumi, lebih-lebih lagi ia memberi gambaran bahawa deria menghidunya lebih kehadapan dari keadaan biasa.

Akhbar tersebut menjelaskan bahawa Tasion didalam rancangan pulang ke Israel untuk melakukan penyelidikan haiwan di institut kibbutz agar dapat membiakkan khinzir dan mencadangkan bagaimana menjinakkan khinzir bagi tujuan mengesan periuk api dan agar tuntutan institut dapat dipenuhi.

Tambahan lagi bahawa Tasion telah mula melatih khinzir dan membentuknya mengesan periuk api yang tertanam dan dalam masa yang menakjubkan didapati ia mengesannya secara pantas dan effisyen.

Berkata akhbar tersebut : penemuan ini - yang disifatkan sebagai "dunia" - telah menimbulkan minat seluruh dunia, lebih-lebih didalam situasi ia boleh mengesan periuk api.

Mengenai sekitar penggunaan khinzir didalam tentera penceroboh, Yediot Aharonot berkata : Tasion mencadangkan agar dimasukkan khinzir kedalam perkhidmatan tentera dan tentera telah menunjukkan minat mengenai perkar tersebut, akan tetapi mereka menjelaskan bahawa adalah menjadi masalah mengambil haiwan kotor yang mungkin akan dibangkitkan menurut Undang-undang Yahudi.

Two-thirds of US crops GM contaminated, claims report

More than two-thirds of conventional crops in the United States are now contaminated with genetically modified material - dooming organic agriculture and posing a severe future risk to health - a new report concludes.

The report - which comes as English ministers are on the verge of approving the planting of Britain's first GM crop, maize - concludes that traditional varieties of seed are "pervasively contaminated" by genetically engineered DNA. The US biotech industry says it is "not surprised" by the findings.

Because of the contamination, the report says, farmers unwittingly plant billions of GM seeds a year, spreading genetic modification throughout US agriculture. This would be likely to lead to danger to health with the next generation of GM crops, bred to produce pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals - delivering "drug-laced cornflakes" to the breakfast table.

The report comes at the worst possible time for the English Government, which is trying to overcome strong resistance from the Scottish and Welsh administrations to GM maize.

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee drew attention to the problem in North America in a report published on Friday, and said the Government had not paid enough attention to it. The MPs concluded: "No decision to proceed with the commercial growing of GM crops [in Britain] should be made until thorough research into the experience with GM crops in North America has been completed and published". It would be "irresponsible" for ministers to give the green light to the maize without further tests.

Peter Ainsworth, the committee chairman, accuses the Cabinet of "great discourtesy" to Parliament by making its decision on the maize last Thursday, the day before the report came out, and plans to raise the issue with the Speaker of the House.

i noticed people who are against the eating of pork will cite u the same old stories about pig eating garbage & how dirty the animal is: is this true?

BUT they continue to close their eyes on
Genetically modified plants
Genetically enhanced live stocks like farmed fish
animals like chooks and cows which are prone to CJD and avian flu..
infact they don't even raise the issue.
