Free bus service? Do it in S’gor, Penang first, CM tells DAP

Sarawak CM Adenan Satem says Opposition parties will promise the sky just to mislead the public and win the votes.
KUCHING: The Selangor and Penang state governments should set an example by providing free bus services in their states before bringing this up in Sarawak, said Chief Minister Adenan Satem. He was responding to the Sarawak DAP manifesto earlier today where its chairman, Chong Chieng Jen, pledged to offer free public bus services in all major cities, including Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and Sibu. “I want to see Selangor and Penang (state governments) do this. They’ve been in power for many years but they never talk about this. So just take it with a pinch of salt,” he said during a media conference held at Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak here, when asked on his opinion regarding the DAP’s manifesto. According to Chong, the bus service project would see a three-fold increase in the number of buses, leading to greater frequency in service. Chong told the press it would cost RM500 million to fund the bus project in the first year. He said the main aim of the initiative would be to provide an efficient, regular and comfortable public bus service. Adenan, however, saw flaws in the project, saying that such promises could mislead the public. “The danger in the manifesto is that you can promise the sky. This will mislead the people.”
