When Miley Cyrus headed off to Tybee Island, Georgia, to film "The Last Song" (written by Nicholas Sparks of "The Notebook" and "Dear John" fame) in the summer of 2009, she had recently gone through a breakup (remember Justin Gaston?) and had no idea that she would end up falling for her Aussie co-star, Liam Hemsworth. In the April issue of Teen Vogue, the singer/actress and her new main squeeze sat down with Danielle Nussbaum -- in Paris of all places -- to talk about their new movie (in theaters March 31), Miley's future in music, and their budding romance.

So what were their first impressions of one another? "He's really tall," laughs Miley. "I thought, 'Either I'm going to have to be in heels or standing on something for this entire movie! He definitely showed chivalry: I remember him opening the door for the director, and I was like, 'Wow.'"
Liam was equally wowed by the Disney starlet. "Working with Miley was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be," he reveals. "From the first time we read, it was like I had known her before."
The "Last Song" stars are clearly smitten with one another!
Awww ... sounds kind of like a Nicholas Sparks novel, no? According to the teen queen, she and Liam had instant chemistry. "I think we're both deeper than normal people -- what they think and how they feel," shares Miley. "He's very grateful for what he has, but he doesn't let it go to his head. I'm like that too."

Although they seem to connect on many levels, music is strictly a Miley thing. When asked if he can sing, Liam admits, "I don't sing well," which Cyrus is oddly happy about. "It's refreshing to work with an actor who isn't also a singer and dancer and musician and artist and this and that," she says. "I'm sick of quadruple threats." Um, isn't that kind of what Miley's striving to be?
Miley holds on tight to Liam as they stroll through Paris.
At any rate, the 17-year-old diva says she's looking forward to taking a little break from the music biz, perhaps to focus on her acting skills? "The more I make music that doesn't truly inspire me, the more I feel like I'm blending in with everyone else," she sighs. "So after this next album, I'm taking some time off."
Of course, that doesn't mean the sassy "Party in the U.S.A." singer is going to stop working altogether. "I don't know if you noticed the past few years of my career?" she asks. "I don't really believe in breaks." |
