Vera by Era offers a covert, electronic and physical, surveillance capability that is not vulnerable to anti-radar weapon systems.  The system抯 design is fully mobile and can be delivered in a 搑oll-on/roll-off

Hmmmmm...melepas le Kolchuga...Bulan berapa punya isu Tempur ada buat perbandingan Vera-E, Kolchuga dengan China made. Dlm perbandingan tu jelas Kolchuga mendahului Vera-E dan China made, jadi persoalan atas tiket apa Vera-E terpilih???

original article posted at the passive surveillance thread by bro spidey:

Dzirhan Mahadzir JDW Asia-Pacific Reporter
Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia has finalised contracts for the purchase of up to 18 Avibras Astros II Multiple Rocket Launchers (MRL) and an undisclosed number of Czech VERA-E radars.

The closed-door signings took place at the Ministry of Defence complex in Kuala Lumpur on 7 August. General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal, the Malaysian armed forces chief, declined to discuss the VERA-E deal but confirmed the acquisition of a second batch of Astros MRLs to supplement those ordered in 2000.

Without addressing cost or numbers, Gen Tan Sri Abdul Aziz acknowledged that the army was getting enough systems to equip a second MRL regiment. The first MRL regiment is equipped with 18 launchers.

He added that one of the army's artillery regiments equipped with the Denel 155 mm G-5 towed gun would be converted to deploy the Astros II, while all the G-5s would then be consolidated into the remaining regiment under a plan to re-organise and enhance the army's firepower.

Malaysia has 22 G-5s in service.

Separately, Malaysia expects to have its Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighters operationally ready by the end of 2008.

Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Chief General Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin stated on 10 August that six of the fighters are currently in the country at RMAF Gong Kedak and that four pilots are training as instructors under Russian tutelage, while four others are being trained in Russia.

bottom line is:  "closed door signing", "declined to discuss" aka VERA-E is still not confirmed.

kalu tak silap sykt yg buat VERA dah di ambil alih oleh sykt US. Bukankah nanti pembelian VERA tu akan mendapat sekatan sebagaimana hornet? kolchuga bebas dari sekatan negara barat pasal ia adalah teknologi rusia.
