For the last few days everybody is talking about Kim Karadshian filing for divorce from her professional basketball player, Kris Humphries, after a mere 72 days of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The media speculates that this was a scene marriage, planned as a way of making profit, considering that “fairytale” wedding was televised as a two-night special event on the E! and that they earned $17.9 million from the ceremony. Of course, the couple, overwhelmed with pain, denies everything.
Well, just to show that this short marriage isn’t anything new and odd in the world of rich and famous, we made a list of top ten shortest celebrity marriages ever. You’ll be shocked to find out that Kim and Kris rank actually pretty high, considering the fact that there were celebrities whose wedlock lasted less than a day! Some say that in Hollywood relationships are under a lot of pressure because of the constant paparazzi chase and being in constant view of the public eye. They say that the celebrity couples can’t have real intimacy and are also away from each other a lot because of their busy lives. And on top of all that, let’s not forget the enormous egos that most of the celebrities have, that surely don’t help in handling all that chaos and finding a way to make their marriages work. Let’s start our countdown: 10. Pamela Anderson and Kid RockPamela Anderson definitely has a thing for bad boys. After her very public battle with Tommy Lee, Anderson found her way into Kid Rock’s arms in 2001 and became engaged by 2002. However, they ended it before they made their way down the aisle. The couple found each other again in 2006 and were married and divorced within four months. 9. Colin Farrell and Amelia WarnerColin Farrell was head over heels in love when he married actress Amelia Warner in Bora Bora in 2001; he even had his bride’s name tattooed on his ring finger. However just four months later, it was all over. Later, when asked what went wrong, the Irish heartthrob simply said: “Too fast, too young.” 8. Renee Zellweger and Kenny ChesneyMost girls dream about wedding ceremony at the beach. It sounds so romantic and gives you the feeling that the marriage will last for ever and be happy and full of love. Still, it didn’t quite work out for these two. They’ve had it all, but somehow after less then four months they decided that staying in this marriages was unbearable for both of them. 7. Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie PresleyNicolas Cage is huge Elvis Presley fan. He dressed as up as Presley in his movie “Honeymoon in Vegas”and sang his hit song “Love Me” in his movie “Wild at Heart”. But it wasn’t just Presley’s songs and looks that Nic really loved. In 2002, he married Presley’s only daughter Lisa Marie and their version of “til death do us part” was three and a half months. 6. Chris Kattan and Sunshine Tutt
Chris Kattan was married to Sunshine Tutt from June 28, 2008. They separated August 10, 2008.5. Drew Barrymore and Jeremy ThomasDrew Barrymore tied the not with bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994 after dating for just six weeks. The actress, who was 19 at the time married the 32-year-old Thomas in Los Angeles at his bar, The Room but filed for divorce just 32 days latter. 4. Ethel Merman and Ernest BorgnineThe coupling of thrice-wed Broadway belter Ethel Merman and twice-wed Oscar-winner Ernest Borgnine is one of the kookiest in Hollywood history. The unlikely duo’s knot began unraveling on their honeymoon, when, according to Borgnine, he garnered the lion’s share of fan attention, which left Merman seething. “By the time we got home, it was hell on earth,” he recalled in 2001. “And after 32 days I said to her, ‘Madam, bye.’” But things weren’t exactly coming up roses for the Merm: she was allegedly subjected to the silent and deadly “Dutch Oven,” which involved Borgnine releasing toxic fumes in bed while trapping her under the sheets. Merman, who never again married, devoted a chapter of her autobiography to the Borgnine marriage: It consisted of one blank page. 3. Eddie Murphy and Tracey E. EdmondsJust two weeks after Eddie Murphy exchanged vows with Tracey Edmonds in a private—and, as it happens, not legally binding—ceremony in Bora Bora, the couple has separated. 2. Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillips
You know your marriage isn’t off to a good start when your new bride asks, “Have you considered suicide?” So went the eight-day union of Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillips. During the brief conjugal co-habitation, the wild-man actor allegedly kept the Mamas & Papas beauty handcuffed so she couldn’t run away (Hopper later claimed Phillips was the one with the cuffs). Years later, both were sentimental about their whiplash coupling, which was solemnized on Halloween (insert joke here). Quipped Hopper, “Seven of those days were pretty good. The eighth day was the bad one,” while Phillips remembered them as “the happiest eight days of my life.”1. Zsa Zsa Gabor and Felipe de AlbaMarried 9 times, Hollywood socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor claims that she had one of the shortest celebrity marriages when her nuptials to Felipe de Alba were annulled after only one day in 1982. After Alba, Gabor married her ninth husband Prince Frederick von Anhalt, who said he had an affair with Anna Nicole Smith and could possibly be the father of her daughter, Dannielyn. BonusRudolph Valentino & Jean AckerFor someone nicknamed “The Great Lover,” Valentino struck out big time with his first wife, actress Jean Acker. Six hours after pledging to stay together in good times and in bad, they put their vows to the test … and failed miserably. The bride locked Valentino out of their honeymoon suite. He knocked for 20 minutes before heading home. Acker claimed in divorce proceedings that the marriage was never consummated and that she’d dumped the sex symbol for another woman. Legend has it that Valentino, who died in 1926 at age 31, remembered his ex in his will, bequeathing her the sum of one dollar. |
