DAILY SNAPSHOT: Total Cases crossed 18.92 million at 7:00 pm with more than 162,500 New Cases reported as the Omicron variant sweeps across Southeast Asia since our last update.
Indonesia reported 48,848 New Cases of COVID-19 today, down from 59,384 yesterday. The ASEAN member state has now logged over 4.51 million Total Recoveries while Active Cases in the Republic have climbed to 536,000+ from 520,500+. Total Deaths stand at 146,365 in the populous archipelago with 163 New Deaths, up from 158 yesterday.
Vietnam reported 41,980 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 42,439 previously. Active Cases in the ASEAN member state have climbed to 432,500+ from 385,000 previously. The health authorities reported 65 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, down from 80 previously, resulting in Total Deaths in Vietnam climbing to 39,423.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 28,825 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 27,808 previously. Total Cases logged in the country now stand at more than 3.19 million with 2.91 million Total Recoveries to date. Malaysia also recorded 34 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, down from 36 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 32,310.
Thailand logged 18,953 New Cases of COVID-19 and 30 New Deaths during the previous 24 hours. Of the New Cases, 18,770 were in the general population and 183 were imported cases. The 30 New Deaths were between the ages of 28 and 93 years, all of them Thai nationals. On Saturday, 13,962 Recoveries were discharged from hospitals.
Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 15,836 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 18,094. 4 New Deaths were reported, down from 7 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 941. Active Cases have climbed to 61,500+ from 61,000+.
Myanmar reported 3,050 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down marginally from 3,058 previously. Active Cases have climbed to 20,500+ from 18,000+ while Total Recoveries stand at 522,000+. Health officials in the junta-run state reported 5 New Deaths, up from 3, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 19,327.
Brunei reported 2,466 New Cases, up from 1,926 yesterday, taking Total Cases in the country to almost 35,000 with 15,466 Active Cases, up from 13,000+ yesterday. Total Deaths in Brunei remain at 61 with no New Deaths reported.
The Philippines recorded 1,712 New Cases of COVID-19, down from 1,923 yesterday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday. Active Cases have dipped to 60,500+ from 62,500+ while 77 New Deaths were reported, down from 198 yesterday. Total Recoveries now stand at more than 3.53 million while Total Deaths have climbed to 55,684.
Health officials in Cambodia have reported 736 New Cases of COVID-19, up from 552 yesterday, pushing Total Cases logged in the kingdom to 126,000+. Active Cases stand at 3,010, up from 2,573. Total Deaths in the country have risen to 3,017 with 2 New Deaths reported.
Lao reported 194 New Cases, down from 285 yesterday, taking Total Cases logged since the beginning of the pandemic to 141,000+. Lao reported 2 New Deaths, down from 3 yesterday, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 610. Active Cases remain below the 3,500-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 137,500+.
Total Deaths across Southeast Asia now stand at more than 320,000 with 382 New Deaths recorded today. On a positive note, over 17.06 million Total Recoveries have been reported across all 10 ASEAN member states to date.
