Get better view of career path at Facon Education Fair
KUALA LUMPUR: Courses that can better ensure students get jobs on graduation will be promoted at the 23rd Facon Education Fair to be held here next month.
They include areas like engineering, information communications technology, dentistry and mass communications.
There will be more than 400 local and international higher-learning institutions taking part in the fair, including the Asia Pacific University College of Technology and Innovation (UCTI), SEGi College, KBU International College and Penang International Dental College (PIDC).
"This year, 96 per cent of our students secured professional jobs in various industries before their graduation," said UCTI business development and students' services manager Muhammad Anis Ur Rehman.
He said this was because of their foundation programme and the ongoing research and practical training.
"We have specialist counsellors to advise students on the right course to take and a one-year programme that will help them to decide their career path," he added.
SEGi group marketing senior director Bruce Lim said they have the career exploratory programme and a leadership centre to help the students choose a career.
"They will undergo a three-month internship with top-notch companies to give them an edge over other graduates," he said.
KBU school of engineering and computing head Lye Boon Han said that as they wanted their students to get jobs upon graduating, they were stressing on developing soft skills besides technical skills.
"Our students are exposed to communication, writing and problem-solving - these are key factors to help them get jobs," he said.
According to PIDC student recruitment unit director S.V. Chandrasekar, their dental students would have overseas exposure as during the first two years of their studies they would be in the Vinayaka Missions University in India.
"They'll be mature and have more experience when they come back to Penang for the third year."
The two-day education fair at the Putra World Trade Centre begins on Dec 8. Admission is free.
