Teenagers Chat Room - Parental Tips?

If I'm not mistaken mama2 kat board ni, mostly young mothers, tapi maybe boleh contribute to this topic.

My eldest daughter baru berjinak2 dgn chat room & I'm getting worried. Dia macam dah addicted lah pulak.  Dah dengar banyak cerita2 negative pasal chat room ni esp to teenagers, so apa precautions yg I patut ambil. At the moment, I limit her chatting period & she can only have access to the computer once dia dah selesaikan semua tugasan.
Siapa ada tips macamana I boleh monitor her activities?  Zaman I remaja dulu mak bapak baca surat2 kita, should I read her messages?
Zaman berubah, masalah lebih kurang sama...

Last yr anak mac start ber internet. I only gave her permission masuk Forum Bintang Kecil. Before giving her the green light, Mac masuk la forum tu.... mmg innocentla... budak2 from 10 yrs to 14 yrs. Tapi sayang after some time tak dpt access that forum. Tak tau kenapa.

Then dia nak start ber frenster. I said No because I know she'll be exposed to benda2 entah apa2. Anak mac tak puas hati and said that semua kawan dia ada frenster account.

I havent made up my mind yet on this. Hoping to see informative responses in this thread.

im just 18..& ofcos im not a mother..
but in my opinion, chatting is quite dangerous as she/he might be exposed to all the gila paedophiles...takut sgt!!
tapi frienster i tink it's ok..but i notice most of them esp. girls
ske sgt amik gambar sexy pose yg sgt provocative.. i mean they're still young or myb not, but still, wy shud u put all those photos there..
tapi klo stakat nk make friends or  cari long lost friend..it's ok.

TQ, we need feedback fr people like U.  Makcik ni memang sebelum ni kurang ambik kisah, bila anak dah besar ni baru nak belajar.  Anyway, apa beza Friendster, Myspace, YM? Boleh cerita sikit?  Sorry for asking basic questions, tapi memang blur,

ok..anything that i know i'll help=)
friendster & myspace sama je function dia..untuk cari kwn dimana membernya boleh create their own profile(boleh put pic,video,songs).

YM is yahoo messenger iaitu one of yahoo pnya branch khas utk chatting..

my personal opinion la..
nak halang new technology to our kids pun takleh jugak sb nanti dia org rasa ketinggalan pulak among friends bila friends kat sekolah talk about it..

tapi make sure la cam u cakap kat atas, her work dah habis...and ada specific time for them to hook with the pc..when the time is over, that's it la..
as what they chat, takkan la kita nak duduk depan tu monitor, sure they feel uncomfortable..so, let them chat la watever they wish to...cuma, make sure it's confined to chat room jer la..no xtra2 lepas tu...

as for friendster ke...myspace ke..i think ok la..cuma make sure takde la pic2 yg sexy2 dia org post there..and if possible, u ask them to write grammatically correct english, kalau tak..cakap, u disallow then using it..dari situ, dia leh jugak belaja writing kan?

I let my 10 year old doter use internet. Tapi satu hari tu kantoi dia tengok site sexy girls sbb classmate suruh tengok. Biasala budak2 ni kan senang dengar ckp kwn.

So i told her it's illegal to surf site mcm tu dan sekarang aku ban terus dia dari guna internet for an undefinite period. tak de la pulak dia miss the internet, pandai pulak buat craft, main toys yg dah lama tak main, main badminton with neighbors to fill her time.

maybe aku akan lift the ban tapi biar le dulu buat masa ni.

Hmmm..at last ada gak thrad pasal topic ni..Anak dara Sis baru 12 y.o. Pun dah berfreindster dan ber my space jugak..Tapi sejak dia tak do well dan sejak Sis perasan dia dah hook sgt sampai waktu dha tak kira waktu solat etc...Sis basuh dia brainwash cukup cukup...Pas tu Sis takut kan dia dgn citer citer negative about cyber friends....Sekrng ni Sis make sure dia berchat whenever i'm around...

Dia tak leh bukak computer sebb Sis pegang password and keep changing it.  So..last last addiction tu berkurangan...Chat only on wekends and holidays...SO far dia tak complain and yg penting dia tau kenapa.
