Rubi (
Barbara Mauri) is a beautiful woman from a humble family. Her best friend, Maribel (
Jacqueline Bracamontes), is a beautiful woman who has a physical defect and cannot live a normal social life. Rubi meets Maribel's boyfriend Hector (
Sebastian Rulli) and his best friend Alejandro (
Eduardo Santamarina). Rubi is ambitious and she will do anything in her power to obtain what she wants... money.
Alejandro loves Rubi, and he offers her his love. Even though Rubi thinks he is her true love, she does not accept him because he is poor.
Instead, Rubi seduces Hector and on the day Maribel and Hectors will get married, Rubi and Hector escape leaving Maribel devastated. Rubi ends up marring Hector and she has the luxury she has always dreamed of, but she soon realizes that money is not everything in life.
Rubi misses Alejandro and even though she is married, Rubi decides to go back with him. She does not care that Maribel and Alejandro are now together.
She is determined to get what she wants without regards to anyone else. She goes ahead with her wickedness although a fortune teller tells her that she will be punished for her sins. Soon Alejandro finds himself between Rubi and Maribel: he and Rubi make love and she gets pregnant from Alejandro but Hector believes it's his child. Rubi lose the baby when she protects her sister Cristina's (
Paty Diaz) daughter Fernanda (
Kristel Carteele) from being hit by a car. Rubi tells Alejandro that Hector was responsible for the miscarriage.
While she is trying to be with Alejandro, Hector discovers that the baby was not his and he discovers Rubi's real personality. When he is going to unmask her, he suffers a car accident and dies. Rubi inherit Hector fortune and Alejandro discovers how Rubi lost the baby.
Alejandro ends all ties with Rubi and decides to be with Maribel. Rubi begs him not to leave her because he is her truly love. Alejandro is tired of her lies and leaves. Rubi supporting herself from the balcony follow him screaming that she will never leave him. She slide and falls in the emptiness.
Rubi survive the accident, but she loses a leg. Cristina encouraged her to start a new life. Rubi had lost everything she even loses her beauty in the accident, her face is badly disfigured and she doesn't have money to get plastic surgery. She lost all the money she inherited from Hector.
Rubi asked the fortune teller again and he tells her that she is paying her sins. Rubi doesn't want to accept the truth and wants to be like she was. Rubi desperately tries to kill Alejandro on his wedding day with Maribel, but she could not do it because she really loves him.
Later, Rubi begins to tell Fernanda all about men and how to obtain from them what she wants and how to destroy them using her beauty. Years pass and Fernanda is a woman who looks a lot like Rubi. When she is in the university, she meets Alejandro's son and being aware of the story she present herself as Rubi and the boy falls in love with her. Fernanda visits Rubi who tells her what to do to make the father and son fall in love with her and then make them hate each other. Later Fernanda goes to the hospital and meets Alejandro. She leaves him stupefied because he thinks she is Rubi. She greets him, close the door and begin kisses him. Fernanda with Rubi's personality obtains revenge by making Alejandro and his son fall in love with her.
