Lorong Musik - Ketika sebuah lagu tercipta dan terinspirasi dari sebuah novel, rasanya hal ini cukup menarik untuk ditelusuri.


Selain karena terciptanya karya tersebut dari sebuah karya, juga karena bagaimana proses lagu tersebut tercipta. Di mana sebuah text kemudian diinterpretasikan ke dalam audio atau mungkin diinterpretasikan kembali ke dalam text di lirik.

1984 – David Bowie

Lagu yang berdurasi 3 menit 27 detik ini ditulis oleh David Bowie pada tahun 1973. Lagu “1984” ini terinspirasi dari novel science fiction “Nineteen Eighty-Four” karya George Orwell.

David Bowie begitu menyukai cerita yang ada di novel tersebut sehingga mengadaptasi sebuah plot 1984, dimana sebuah karakter fiksi Winston Smith sedang diinterogasi oleh O’Brien, dari cerita tersebut, David Bowie menginterpretasikannya ke dalam lirik-liriknya. 2 + 2 = 5 – Radiohead

Lagu yang terdapat di album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends ini cukup unik. “42” ini terdiri dari 3 bagian dan tanpa chorus. Lagu ini pun terdapat di album LeftRightLeftRightLeft dalam versi live. Coldplay menulis lagu “42” ini karena terinspirasi oleh novel yang berjudul “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” karya Douglas Adams.

7 Chinese Brothers – R.E.M

Lagu ini terinspirasi dari buku anak kecil yang berjudul “The Five Chinese Brothers” pada tahun 1938. Buku ini memiliki sebuah kisah bangsa China yang kuno, di dalamnya menceritakan tentang seorang keluarga yang memiliki kekuatan supranatural seperti kemampuan menampung dan menahan lautan lewat mulutnya. “7 Chinese Brothers” terdapat di album ke-2 R.E.M yang berjudul Reckoning yang dirilis pada tahun 1984 oleh I.R.S.

Among the Living – Anthrax

Anthrax menulis lagu ini karena terinspirasi oleh salah satu novel terbaik Stephen King yang berjudul “The Stand”. Among the Living juga merupakan judul album yang dirilis pada tahun 1987 oleh Megaforce.

Dalam buku tersebut diceritakan tentang penyebaran sebuah virus, lalu Anthrax pun menuliskan kalimat “Disease! Disease! Spreading the disease!”.

One – Metallica

Lagu ini terdapat di album ke-4 Metallica yang berjudul …And Justice for All yang dirilis pada tahun 1989 oleh Elektra. “One” terinspirasi dari novel tahun 1939 karya Dalton Trumbo yang berjudul “Johnny Got His Gun”. Aplikasi cerita novel yang menceritakan tentang locked-in syndrome ini berhasil dituangkan ke dalam lirik “One”.

Lagu ini terdapat di album terbaru MGMT berjudul MGMT (self titled). The lyrics of The Beatles thumping closing track to Revolver are largely taken from Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert’s psychedelic version of The Tibetan Book of the Dead.
