Stars Take Refuge from Superstorm Sandy in NYC Hotels
Celebrities have been taking shelter in posh uptown hotels after being displaced from their homes due to Superstorm Sandy’s destruction.
While most of downtown New York City remains powerless, Hollywood’s A-listers are making themselves home in the city’s most famous hotels like the Mark Hotel, The Carlyle, and the Lowell.
So where have they found shelter from the storm?
Alec Baldwin and new wife Hilaria escaped to the ultra chic Lowell Hotel after their SoHo apartment lost power. Joining them at the uptown hotel is movie magnate Harvey Weinstein and Marchesa designer wife Georgina Chapman.
Sarah Jessica Parkerwas spotted at the Plaza Athenee, according to the NY Post. Her West Village home is among the millions that went without power due to the powerful storm.
The Mark has become a veritable who’s who of hurricane refugees. Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiberwere spotted checking into the hotel with their sons, Sasha and Samuel, late on Tuesday evening.
Helena Christensen, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Russell Crowe, Marc Jacobs,and Kelly Ripa were also among the famous faces spotted at the luxurious east side hotel.
Also at The Mark, Emma Stone and Jonah Hill were doing their best to avoid cabin fever by sipping on cocktails in the hotel’s lobby bar.
The Carlyle is a home away from home for lovebirds Mary Kate Olsen and beau Olivier Sarkozy. Models Lily Donaldson and Karlie Kloss are also staying at the Upper East Side landmark.
Other celebrities, including Real Housewives of New Jersey reality stars Joe and Melissa Gorga, rode out the storm in their home with the help of a generator.
More than 8.2 million homes and businesses were without power due to superstore Sandy on Wednesday.

Hurricane Sandy’s wide path of destruction is affecting everyone from Hollywood to the Highline - and celebrities are chiming in, even a jaded Lindsay Lohan.
“WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (i’m calling Sally)...?” the troubled starlet tweeted Sunday night. “Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace.” Lohan, 26, also later dubbed the devastating storm “Hurricane Sassy,” a term that took off on Twitter, and even spawned a Wikipedia page. Other celebrities weren’t so nonchalant about the impending storm, however. Reality stars, talk show hosts and Hollywood power players also added their two cents and well wishes to the conversation.

Christina Aguilera As Sandy victims continue to rebuild in the aftermath of the monstrous superstorm, East Coast celebrities put their star power to work at NBC’s live “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” disaster relief telethon on Nov. 2, 2012. Christina Aguilera, who grew up in the now devastated borough of Staten Island, kicked off the night with a performance of her song, “Beautiful,” during the benefit event, which raised money for Red Cross efforts to help areas still reeling from the storm's impact. See other memorable moments from the star-studded telethon event.
Steven Tyler and Jimmy Fallon Funnyman Jimmy Fallon took up the mic alongside Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler to do a rendition of “Under the Boardwalk.” Bruce Springsteen accompanied on acoustic guitar during the duo’s performance.
Kevin Bacon New York City resident Kevin Bacon was another notable guest present during the star-heavy telethon.
