The Pop Word is a column about the pop world.
I’m sooooooooo sorry to have to keep doing this. Talk about Lady Gaga that is. But, if you live on planet Earth (and if you’re reading this you probably do), you know she’s pretty much unavoidable right now. And this is a column about the pop world, and in the pop world it’s The Lady Gaga Hour pretty much every damn minute. I mean, there was even a blog post yesterday saying that Lady Gaga and Madonna are ninth cousins once removed, according to some celebrity genealogist.
Anyway, she just released her fourth single via iTunes, titled “Hair”, off of her album Born This Way, which will see its official release on May 23rd.
I was pretty into that “Judas” cut, but “Hair”… um, somewhere along the way I heard Lady Gaga say, I think it was on 60 Minutes or something, that she likes to smoke pot when she writes. And maybe, just maybe, she should think twice about that,
because “Hair”, being about her hair specifically, is pretty much the least creative metaphor for a song about being a strong, free individual. We get it, you wear crazy wigs in the shape of telephones and stuff. It’s not even actually her hair. I don’t know, just doesn’t seem like we needed an entire song about it. We can see it. Very well. Practically everywhere these days.
The lyrics also leave a little something to be desired. At one point it’s just, “Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair…” and so on. A fine track for beauty salons around the globe, I suppose, but not necessarily the mark of creativity. Not that we expected much from her music, necessarily, it’s always been pretty vapid. But after “Judas”, I was kind of thinking that she was going for more lyrical depth, some range. Yeah, I mean, aside from the constant theme of “be yourself!” I think that boat has pretty much sailed. Oh well.

The Edge of Glory pun aku x dengar lagi...hehe..anyway as I said before, Gaga makin hilang mainstream appeal dia since lagu2 baru dia asyik fokus pada Jesus + Illuminati + Equality etc...
Judas skang ni just bertahan dengan digital sales jer, airplay plak memang tak dapat support radio... |
